Im actually looking to run a home made kit on the intercooler.Which will run from the washer bottle.

So far on the list i have:-

#atomiser spray nozzle. #check#

#filter.(So no blockages occur) #check#

#hose.

#A T bypass peice with a vavle.(so i can switch between intercooler spray and windscreen washers)

yeah they look the part.

It looks like they will cone spray.They were $36.30each with filters.

I was spewing that they diddnt have a cylinder peice to screw over the end of the filter so it could easily be hooked up to my washer bottle lines.Now i have to go and buy reducers so i can run the large hose from the atomiser and reduce it down to the washer bottle size hose.

Heres a pic of the ones i got from TECPRO at castle hill.the one on the left is fully asembled and the latter is with the filter tail dissassembled.

The whole thing with atomisation is so that the water can quickly and effectively cool an object.Because the water dropplets are so minutely small they are evaporated so much more quickly than a dropplet of water would ever be evaporated.effectively cooling the object quicker and much more efficiently also saving water in the process.

I reckon the Autospeed intercooler spray controllers are way overpriced. $240 for a boxed kit (with no pump/nozzles) is a bit much! I decided to design and build my own "smart logic" controller (and have just started selling them for $120) and fits in a box about half the size too. My design and programming covers about 95% of the same functionality as the Autospeed and has the same cooling results. No matter what system you use however, the nozzle choice is crucial to get a good mist spray across the intercooler.

I do not sell nozzles but the TECPRO ones look like a great quality option to provide a nice cone spray mist.

On hot days at the track you notice that the engine wont let you boost 10+ psi for long periods of time at WOT.

The first thing that i noticed with the spray ,was, that i could run 13 psi on the stock turbo without the engine knocklight coming on.

It was on a hot day.so that gave me a good indication that it was working even though it was not the atomiser.The cooler was cool to touch.I was giving it some as well.

The sprayer system could have done with a more high pressure pump to assist in it's spraying as well imo.The stocker is just under par when it comes to the pressure required to get good atomisation out of the nozzel.

The whole reason that i diddnt reply to the thread that i started was because on the day of me fitting the sprayer to the bar at the track,i found out ,while pre testing, that the sprayer nozzel was blocked..I had a spare but had left it at home.It was working fine the day before.

So on the day all i did was crimp the end of a hose and faced it down at and towards the intercooler from the mount i had origionally made up for the nozzel.It wasted water like all hell but somthing was better than nothing.

Some of the things that you have to remember are that you "need" a decent brass atomiser sprayer nozzel with filter cartidge and male barbed adapter tail,so you can readily fit the hose on and off, and also a one way valve,just like the ones in your window washer lines so water wont just drip out while not in use,put in line between the pump and the sprayer..It would also be ideal to upgrade the pump.Somthing like the cheapo option that autospeed suggests be used "that is" the vt washer bottle pump.It has slightly more pressure than the nissan item.i know because i bought a second hand one ,it was trialed,but diddnt fit it because i wanted to use the stock bottle that its connected to it and diddnt buy it :P and i diddnt feel like hacking away at the stocker bottle to only use it a few times a year if you get my drift.But still this system will not produce massive atomisation mist.like the ones you see in the tecpro/autospeed pictures.if you want that then go out and buy a high pressure aftermarket pump..

The pumps for the washer bottles are gravity fed.Make sure u get the filter for the vt pump as well.Im pretty sure that they have them stock just check

Sorry - I don't mean to hijack the thread. The controller does come boxed, but I forgot that I haven't put any photos on the web page or in the manual. I will do this in the next day or two and update both page & manual. And yes it has lights to show Power On, when the two configurable items are tripped (AFM voltage & intercooler core temp) as well as when the pump is on (whether tripped by the controller or via the manual override switch)

I found that it didnt more produce "feelable" power but it did allow me to run the same ammount of boost all day long.Which i guess in turn allowed me to keep the consistency of power there.In winter though the story might be a bit different.

The VT pump doesnt fit the stock washer bottle.Though you could if you wanted find some room for it all to fit and drill a small hole and silicon in place the pump.There would be no leaks.Though i like the whole separate washer bottle idea myself..On the stock setup it'd be a good idea to run the rear washer pump for the sprayer pump because it rarely gets used.

Also id look into going for a cold air duct.it all helps.

The other problem with running that ammount of boost on a hot summers day is the engine temps.It's best if you had an aftermarket radiator and a gauge to keep a check.Though i only had the stocker radiator but had an accurate gauge to keep check on the temps.Plus i run an oil cooler.

I was told that just jap are selling aftermarket radiators for skylines at arround the $300 mark.Better than pwr prices.And if you want a permanent solution to engine temp problems thats the way to go.

I found the same when I fitted my FMIC. No noticable power gain but intake temperatures didn't spike as much after multiple runs. Once the intercooler water spray was fitted, the intake temps dropped and remained much more stable allowing for (as Trust33 said) a more consistent power level.

If there is no noticable power gain then then this is more of a support mod?

Also, as you all know our cars run better in cool weather as opposed to hot weather. Will this mod make our cars run in hot weather as it does in colder weather?

And finally, have there not been tests done whereby water spray, NOS sprays etc increase power on the dyno? hence shouldnt this increase power?

i just picked up an atomizer nozzle today from a place in morrabin vic for 4bucks each. simple unit not as advanced as yours with filters and all but seems to atomise better than my old bunnings nozzles...ha

anyways, im having the same issue with the water pump not producing enough pressure too atomise propperly. how much was the vt pump? anybody else know of any other pumps that flow better than the stock ones?

just posting an answer to a question. :yes: to help out others.

*use same size hose as what the outlet of the pump allows.no bigger.bigger and you will loose pressure especially over distances.

*use a 1 way valve in the hose to stop leaks when off pressure.thus saving shitloads of you water.you have a 1 way valve in your front window washer line.you will see it.it has a white stripe.

*for a temporary mount.buy some cheap bunnings aluminium.make sure you face it so that the hot side of the intercooler gets the bulk of the spray.and allow fro wind hitting the atomised air at high speed.you dont want the intercooler only getting half of the spray.

-and found a place that allows you to shop through their online catalouge of atomiser spray nozzels.you get to chose what size nozzel you want through the different pressures,spray patttenrn and flow rate.very good.because you can then take it to say "techpro" who could do an equvillent for you.and if you are going to do that then your best bet is to photocopy the picture of it allong with its specifics so that they have a real world example of what it is exactly that you are looking for.

My nozzel never really had great sucess due to low pressure.see if you can find one that allows you to have a decent sized spray pattern (enuf to spray the face of your intercooler) allong with a low pressure operation so your pump stock can operate it with more sucess than every1 seems to have.

could you rig the 2x pumps to work in unisen to operate efficiently .and provide a little bit more presure?

    • So where is this message group so we can organise another meet? Keen to come along and catchup. Might eventually be in a skyline again next year, but the Mustang will have to do for now. Also need to get the WRX back on the road. Stupid f**king money pit that thing is.
    • Stock equivalent turbo replacement is a bit of a nightmare. The old Hitachi ceramic things were pretty good for their time, but they have primitive, vintage aerodynamics. The only thing they have going for them is a light turbine**, and there are plenty of other light turbine options these days, in both materials and CNC manufacturing methods. So, the old stocker makes absolutely no power at all compared to its physical size and its (not very low) boost threshold and response. ** and the ONLY thing that was good about the ceramic turbine was that it was light. In all other respects it is a nightmare. To get a turbo that is anywhere near equivalent in terms of power capacity (ie, to avoid it being "bigger" and needing tuning/fuelling/etc) you have to physically downsize. And that is not a "stockish" replacement. Doesn't just fit where the old one did. At least a frame size down, probably need a new dump, probably need new inlet and outlet piping made on the compressor side, new hose connections as D said above. I say, if you have to suffer that much work, you might as well do the same work to fit an even bigger (than stock) turbo, have more power (and hence have to do injectors, ECU, etc), and love life, instead of suffering with stock power levels. Or, you get a light highflow from someone like Hypergear. A highflow that has not been pushed too far from stock. There are still modification consequences here though. HG's cores are smaller than the massive Hitachi core, so it is shorter, moves the compressor housing backwards and requires mods to the air side piping. Plus new hoses. Looks stock, mostly fits where the stock one did (with the previous caveats mentioned), makes a bit more power but can be run at stock boost levels and not cause too many ECU problems. But, seriously. It's 2024. Like - 25 years since the R33 came out. It's time to put an ECU in it. I Nistuned my car (on RB20 ECU then later again on the Neo ECU) and it was the single best thing possible for minimal money. Dial out the R&R bullshit, fix up the fuelling and timing to make it more efficient for normal driving (cut fuel consumption by >10%). Nistune is not an option for you unless you change the ECU, so you might as well just do a standalone. it will be worth it. And then you can tune it up to the limits of the injectors and AFM, which is pushing 200rwkW and enjoy some actual squirt, instead of the lazy barge-like motion you get from a stock engine, turbo and management.
