hey mate, i recently got a z tune vent moulded into my 32gtr bonnet i noticed around 15+ degree drop in engine temp.

peeeeee.jpg

and rain gets in. but i dont really notice it bieng dirty or anything. just made sure the seal around my cam covers and coils is in good form!

just adding to the thread after reading the rest of it.. i have been pulled over by police on a number of occasions and nothing ever mentioned about the bonnet, or headlight.. or anything for that matter.

oh and id like to say that is the best cai i have ever seen. love it.

It's to allow hot air out, that's why it is positioned above the turbos; that's also why i like the bonnet i posted.

Hot air rises :)

Ahhh, makes sense  How much of an effect on cooling would u think it has tho, i mean that vent is pretty small probably not even palm size. I have to admit it looks pretty nice tho, clean and subtle. Cops wont even give it a 2nd glance.

Has someone got some pics of a raised bonnet?

It doesnt look that bad, but its still noticeable. Just imagine ur normal bonnet raised maybe an inch at the part nearer to the windscreen. It sorta looks like some dodgy panel work has been done. Haha their everywhere around here in Malaysia, seems to be pretty common unlike in melb.

Something like this would be good I reckon.

The one vented bonnet I do like is the do-luck one. It has those fins that arent too large and over the top but still looks like it would do a proper job cooling. Ive never actually seen one of those do-luck bonnets on a real car before tho :P

edit: actually I don't think they're naca ducts now I look at it, looks more like their designed to use the flow of air above the bonnet to pull hot air through it.

the vspec r34 bonnet duct is a NACA duct.

I'm looking at a naca duct.

I have not been able to find a good one yet..

The R34 GTR V-Spec 11 and Nur edition have one in the bonnet..

That is what I'm after.

No bling.. just function.

Porsche 924 have them, lotus, some farrari's.. gt40 even the old forb XA GT had them..

but I still have not found a good one!

Anybody got one?

Please PM me!

Cheers.

Aaron

You can buy a bonnet with a naca duct already installed in it from japan, like a one piece thing. I almost purchased one but then i figured its too much to pay for such a small vent? Im not even sure if it'll work well at reducing underbonnet temps. So in the end i got a shift sports bonnet, with the large centre drop vent behind the radiator which will most probably do its job at cooling. I also got a matching vent cover in case it rains/hails whatever heh :sorcerer:

anyone know how rain would affect ur engine...ie rust easier/quicker?.....water falls into ur engine and blows ur cylinders?

say u get a z tune bonnet for u car and u park it outside everyday and it pours wat r u gonna do?

or say u goto work and u have to park outside for 8 hours and it rains for those whole 8 hours?

how will this affect ur car?

ON A TT SUPRA we did some testing at wakefield with streemers on the front bar and on the tip of the bonnet. and on the straight the ones on the grill and upper of the intercooler they were pointing forwards lol. the only thing pulling the air thru the radiator was the engine fan.

thisa was with a louverd bonnet. and a standard bonnet. and no bonnet. all made no differance to watertemp. the only thing that worked was having the intercooler cut in half so the radiatio gets its own air. and a curver partition seperating the rear of the cooler fronm the radiator area. with the cooler venting thru naca ducts on the bar.

also lifting the bonnet is a good trick. but the air doesnt go out of it. but back into the bay and pulls the air under the car.

im gonna try the same idea on my car at our next test day. cos ive got the same issue. at high speed it just gets hot. im no aero dynamacist but im learning

    • Ah yes, fair enough! I was purely thinking about cleaning the spokes and front of the wheel with the mitt. For the barrel the rag on a stick makes more sense. I've tried cleaning the barrels on mine and gave up in frustration. Between brakes being in the way or spokes being in the way and limited space to constantly move the car front and back it was just too annoying. The barrel being as shiny as the rest of the wheel sounds amazing though. At this point I'm not even sure if they have the same surface finish on mine. But I feel inspired now to find out.
    • I have a wheel cleaner pokie thing which is a glorified microfibre rag on a stick, and there is not sufficient clearance between the caliper and the barrel to clean that section. I just roll the car forward 500mm and have another shot at each wheel.
    • The "rag on a stick" is a easy way to fit in between the wheel spokes into all of the barrel Albeit I do have 10 spokes on the MX5 which limits the access to actually jam my hand in to clean the barrel, but it was also makes much easier to clean the 5 spokes on the Dunnydoore with it as well, as you don't have to worry theΒ  caliper getting in the way if you have at least about 15mm space between the caliper and barrel This of course depends if you actually have the clearance between the barrel and caliper, and the amount of OCD you have to get the barrels as clean and shiny as the face of the wheel The thing is bendy as well so you can actually shape it to conform to the inner lip of the barrel Β
    • FWIW, as well as a basic immobiliser/remote unlock (all basic units give you those 2 things), I would also install a 4g tracker in any car I cared about. Just hide it anywhere that won't be found in a rushed look and preferably get something with a built in battery backup so it stays online for a while when the battery is removed or flat While its not a car, when our car trailer was stolen in that den of crime Sydney about a decade ago, the cops were watching from the bloke's neighbour's lawn within about 2 hours until he started swapping the plates and putting up the gumtree ad.Β Β  Obviously it is still not undefeatable (eg parking it up for a few days somewhere without sky sight) but it greatly improves your chances of getting it back quickly and with less damage
    • Instead of magic keyphrases I wonder if something can be done with auto complete. Similar to how user names are handled already. When you type '@' and follow with letters, it'll search across all usernames. It might work to have the same for forum topics. Some key to trigger it and then text search across all thread names and it'll insert the name and URL when pressing enter.
