Ive read Merli's what to look for, but just want to confirm the build plate, According to his post the Nissan Blue Build plate should be printed (i.e. smooth) not engraved, otherwise it is considered re-birthed, is this true for all R33 series I & II? i mainly looked at series II and from memory all of them were not smooth, i had a look at three series I and found only one to be smooth. Out of the 15 or so that i have looked at, only found two too be have a smooth build plate, does that the other sklyines have all been re-birthed?

Id like to find out about this too. My car has an engraved plate but it has the plastic rivets. The VIN on the blue plate also matches up with the one engraved on the body of the car too. Does having an engraved plate always mean the car has been rebirthed?

I cant find any other source on the internet (apart from what Merli has said) which confirms that an engraved plate means rebirthed....

Yeah i have also looked, is there anyway you check the VIN in Japan, is anyone able to do that, or has done that and how did you go about it?

is it not also engraved in the chassis above the engine in the middle of the firewall?

From memory the only thing that should be embossed/engraved in the chassis metal is the chassis number not the actual vin number. The vin number should be given on the compliance plate. I might be wrong but I thought that alot of the older imports don't have vins embossed in the chassis metal...

I'd say you've got an extremely low chance of purchasing a rebirthed skyline unless its painted pink/purple/yellow and has big chrome wheels on it.....
