rukus and mona: that is nomukens new car :) looks very nice.

jantolis and co: You definately have a point. the only thing I can put up in defence is the completely different way people in japan go about it.

from what I've seen 'street racing' in sydney is you pull up at the light next to someone and race them, in the city, in traffic anytime.

in japan the drifters drive 2 hours out of the city. read that again. drive for 2 hours out of the city. this costs around $40 in toll and a shiatload of petrol. once they are now safely out of built up areas they go to the spots. they have people at the top of the togue and the bottom and a few places in bettween. the majority of people watching on the togue stand behind the guardrails (for safety obviously). most of the time the obey the road laws as much as anyone else. ie, they wont be dragging you in a VL at a set of lights. freeway racing is a different kettle of fish though and I agree it's dangerous. anyway the point in this. talking about breaking the law or street racing in australia is not tolerated by the forum moderators. sharing your experiences of another culture in another country is.

BING! 10 pts. (+1 for the use of the word fisco)

ok, yesterday was a big day at Fuji Speeway. Drifting on the drift course, formula 3 on the circuit and Time Attack on the circuit.

Let's start with the drift. This was the most badass Hachi-Roku there. built 20 valve engine, massive 304 degree cams all the good gear including 3 sets of work meisters S1, all shod with brand new advan neovas. I had a good chat to the owner Tomonori and he was kind enough to take me out drifting. This thing revs over 10,000rpm and it hauls arse. He drifted through about 8 tyres (quite a feat in a hachi) and kept going all day till he broke a driveshaft. The funny thing was he was drinking big 800ml cans of asahi all day too, and he told me it was his 6yo daughters birthday, but he wanted to go drifting anyway. his rationale was: "she's in school most of the day" I like his style!

mmm how farken good does it look? actually the body was a bit crap. because he had an immaculate hachi before, but drifted it into a wall so he bought a beater and put his kick arse engine and driveline into it. and his wheels of course! he's a member of a drift team (Cool-D) and one of there drivers is in D1 for 2 years now.

I was invited out there by a friend of mine who was kind enough to loan me a car to drive out there. he also owns a hachi which is tuned by techno pro spirit. It's farking immaculate. he is also a very good drifter and took me out with him. I was impressed as he has only been drifting for a year. His car has all the best gear. 2 X Bride seats, 2 X Takata harnesses. awesome cage, full built Techno Pro Spirit engine and on and on... big dollar hachi with immaculate body work.

god how I love Garage Saurus' work. In my opinion they humble top secret quality wise. These guys churn out just as many hard core GTRs.

ok, that's all for now. more tomorrow maybe.

Nice shots, Richard - keep them coming in!

If my old AE94 Corolla dies, I might have to insist my sister replaces the 4A-FE with a black-top 20v. Some suspension work wouldn't go astray either, but for the most part it's been a trusty little car for the (almost) 13yrs we've had it.

yeah the 20V hachi was insane, but I think the black 16V one is a much more 'complete' car. the 20V is just a balls out drifter. just nice motor, nice box, nice wheels. everything else doesn't matter to these guys!

that white saurus car was insane. even the turbo was built by saurus but based on an HKS T51R. The owner told me his best drag time is 9.2!!! for a street car. when I was driving back to tokyo on the freeway I saw him driving home. he also told me his wheels were custom order panasports. just 1 set produced. the rears are 18X11.5!!! running 315 pirellis. damn I'd had to be paying for those babies.

ok some more pics:

it's funny, of all the things I've done this trip TAS was probably the least interesting for me. and yet it's the main reason I come at this time of year. weird.

ok, that's enough pics for now. things to do, people to see!
