Who'd you get your apartment through? I'm currently looking at one through a couple of agencies and would be interested to know more about who you went with, where you stayed, how much etc... if you don't mind sharing that is.

i dont mind sharing. but sadly it wont help you. it's my friends place. i'm using it whilst he is overseas. i usually stay in hotels in the past. budget around 18,000 yen per night should get some where average or just above average in a good spot in tokyo (like shibuya, shinjuku, harajuku, roppongi, ebisu, azabu somewhere around there).

dave, yeah I've been trying to get all the tips I can!

and good spotting on the temp sensors, I just assumed they were beacons for the timing equipment.

lots of the guys are running the same R tune suspension as me or the ohlins branded equivalent and they all seem to think it's the way to go.

well actually I just got out of bed. the day before yesterday was clubbing until 6am then slept until the protesters woke me up. yesterday I took my friend yumiko to meet my drifter buddy tomonori and his father in yokohama. we went to the most amazing yakiniku place which is owned by his friend. then he went and showed me his factory. parked out the front was his fathers GTR. bear in mind this guy is 62 years old. but he owns a tuned R34 GTR and still holds a fuji speedway full course licence. he hit the recall on his speed display and it showed 266km! not bad for an old guy putting down the freeway. his car was nuts. big TE37s, massive endless brake kit front and rear, and putting out over 500hp. he asked me would I like to drive it next time I'm down (I had had to many beers to drive at this point). I of course said I'd love to, then tomonori explained to me that actually his father was offering me a drive of the car on fuji speedway!!! cant wait to take up that offer. Every year I am stunned by the kindness I'm shown by japanese people. I dont know what it is that gets me such treatment but I am very grateful! so after dinner we headed back to roppongi for some clubbing. hit feria and midas but I wasnt really into them so went back to vanilla. how cool is this. there was a 30 min line. my friend and I joined the back of the que. after about 2 mins standing there one of the bouncers walked all the way back to us, and said please follow me! got to love the VIP treatment.

ok, more pics later tonight. heading out for breakfast now as Im farken starving.

Trying get work to let me go to Japan with Ryan(dop3y). What size turbo is that white GTR running looks T51R size.

Looks like a lot of fun, is it very cold there this time of year?

Brad

Freezing - This time last year Baron and I came out of a night club in Rapongi one night to find it snowing - Quite a spectacle in the middle of Tokyo I must say.

Saurus f**king wow!!!!!!!!!

lol. that's what I said!

more pics of everything: TAS, wangan meets, togue, industrial area drift, fuji speedway drift, fuji time attack and other assorted things to come.

yeah it's quite cold. this time of year. winter. proabably average around 10 degrees i reckon this year. quite mild compared to last year. some times were really cold though. have to say it doesn't bother me at all. well except for 1 night on tsukuba mountain for the togue, i wasn't prepared and froze my nuts off. even my feet were freezing cold through me shoes and socks and I was shaking from the cold.

The turbo on the white Saurus 32 is based on a T51R but modified/built by saurus.

f**k i'm knackered. sunday night was 2 hours sleep. went to bed at 4am up at 6am. by 7pm yesterday I was trying hard not to nod off on the train. then to compound it I missed my 'sleep window' and even though I was beat I couldn't sleep on the plane for more than about 2 hrs. so 2 nights, 4 hours sleep. so tired now but dont want to sleep as if I do I wont sleep tonight. Think I want to take the GTR for a drive but it may not be a good idea in my sleep deprived state :glare:

Welcome back to the real world!! hahaha

mmmm cold weather that's what I like to hear. I'm gonna be doing alotta walking since I'll be a public transport slave, so cold weather is good. Bugger walking in summer heat!

Sleep deprivation is highly under rated. You dont feel a thing, you laugh at everything and you dont remember any of it the next day....

Troy, that sounds like any time we've been out together.... hmm not sure if it was sleep deprivation.

ok a few more pics:

Fugu Karage. highly reccomended. but not so cheap.

love it or hate it, it is uniquely Japanese. most Japanese girls I know say they hate it. as it makes foreigners think all Japanese are a bit perverted, or stupid etc.

My friend Tomonori Akai's fathers car. this is the car I will be driving next time at Fuji! Not bad for a 62 year old. It has the full monty endless brakes. engine bits to 550hp. recaro bucket and harness. not to mention massive TE37s shod in RE55s.

My friend Tomonori and his Hachi in his dads factory. Such a sweet guy. We became fast friends. His team even has a driver in D1. Team Cool-D. hard to believe he is 32 as he looks and acts like he's about 20, but then again his 62 year old father acts like he's 25. He even proudly showed me his peak freeway speed of 266km/h in the GTR on the way home!

this is what a days drifting in an AE86 with powerfull 20V motor revving to 10,000+ will do to your driveshafts... nasty. but he had already fixed it by the next day!

    • Damn it, I was at work last night, and stayed in a room there during the storm with the car outside, but undercover, I just went downstairs and well....there was a large steel locker that has come from some place last night, it wasn't anywhere I could see yesterday, and yeap, it landed on the fraking car....of course it did..... LOL So, I'll need to take it back for paint and panel, luckily it was only the boot that took the hit, so it could have been worse Serves me right for staying at work and getting on the cans with some of the boys
    • Yeah, really happy with how it all turned out As for aftermarket lip, nah, I'm not really a fan for practically reasons on a street car that gets driven everywhere  I did have the full lower kit on my 2015 STI, but found the front lip scrapped alot, even at stock 4x4ish ride height As the NC sits now, with the lowest point of the car at 110mm, so just legal, some steep driveways and steep speed humps will still "just" scrap those little plastic OEM air dam thingies on the undertray just before the front wheels
    • Here's one I help build and tuned a decade ago, Garrett  GTX3071R Gen 1, T3 twin scroll 0.83 rear housing. Went from larger 272 cams down to smaller Tomei Poncams to help with the low end. S13 non VCT motor. Car was purpose built for the track, hence low down was the focus. Note the actual dyno chart shows lower boost, however the EBC and boost gauge showed 1.9Bar (Ignore the torque, I was young and didn't know how to set derived torque)
    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
    • Awesome writeup and details. Thanks for sharing the story so far. I can relate to parts of it with my previous car and some of the issues I had to deal with.
