Clint, may I ask why you want to go EBC? I went the opposite, I had a EBC and went to a manual boost controller, cost me $35 and works brilliantly. If you do a search for $22 boost controller it has a HUGE thread about it.

So I guess it all depends on what your budget is?

And last warning guys, I am of the same persuasion as Gary, and now everyone has stated thier opinion, that is fine, please dont post it again in this thread. Clint already has made his mind up that he wants one, wether we like it or not. Dont go pouring fuel on the fire Grant, this will be the last time I ask you two to calm down.

just to touch on the EBC vs MBC thing

just straight up functionality, keeping the frills out

I have seen firsthand on higher HP cars (350+)

that a manual has a problem holding boost at higher levels, while an EBC doesn't in many cases.

Ive seen a number of MBC (halman, greddy etc etc) that cant hold their own on the top end, but the same manufacturers EBCs work flawlessly.

just a bit of info ive observed

For what you want to do...get a manual boost controller and a guage... up to 100 bucks max i reckon...save yourself money and buy SK's sway bars or save up for a CGC highflow... or whatever is going to get you having more fun quicker... In the end of the day your MBC is NOT going to 'hurt' your car...

Yeah but honestly is Clint really looking for a 239749823487923ty billion HP car, no, which is why a MBC would be fine for his application. Agreed that EBC are more stable at higher power, but then he can upgrade it as the application gets more demanding.

And Chris is right, invest in a guage to see what you are actually running :(

yeah money isnt really an issue like if i want it bad enough ill buy it and suffer for a week or two on bread and water lol.... (true car lover)

well i want my car to look neat, i hate clutter thats why i first made this post, because i wanted a unit that did it all, 1 unit that i could get fitted that would be out of site untill i wish to use it. im a big fan of the stock interior look and guages dont impress me at all (personal opinion) i think it looks tacky when you dont take your car to the track but yet you have all these guages and electronics boxes sticking out every where and all you do is drive your car around as an every day driver.

So what i want is, toys to tinker with and something that gives me the ability to tweek my car safely but still can be hidden away so people peering through my window arnt thanking god because they are about to break my window and take every thing ive just put in.

but see, if you drive your car everyday, that means you need thos gauges even MORE!!!

think of it

the likelyness of something going wrong on the track, in a well taken car of car, with 20 minute sessions, figure 5 session a track day.

Arent very high if everything is operating correctly (or at least in my host of trackdays ive never had a problem)

where most people have problems that need monitoring are in fact in daily driving. the stop and go traffic, and sitting in traffic, put more abuse on your engine on a regular basis than that one single tracday.

your car is mor elikely to overheat, oil temp to rise, while in traffic.

i hate gauges too, but i have some on the way, becuase well.....its a necessity

I use a Hybrid dual stage EBC, keep it in the coinbox. Cheapest on the market

I have a turbo timer that is stashed up under the steering column but turned that off after day1 of car ownership as it is highly dangerous to use (as I found out when attempting to refil the car, the goddamend thing wouldnt turn off!)

A boost guage is a necessity

A ebc is a luxury item as a bleed valve will do almost the same job

A turbo timer isnt needed

Your car, modify how you want. Just work within the laws (to a degree) that apply in your state.

i like what your saying but doesnt an EBC have a built in boost guage? i could be talking absolute crap. but yeah

it isnt a digital item, I got it as Iwasnt sure a turn screw bleed controller would hold 1bar of boost well. and I couldnt afford an expensive name brand one......

an expensive digital ebc may have a boost guage setting.

my car came with an apexi mechanical guage..... Id recommend one to anyone with a turbo car

with the turbo timer - each to their own. In my state they are illegal, plus I think its dodgy for a car to be sitting idling at a petrol station for 5mins !!! (no name, tucked way up under steering wheel glued down tight, have no idea how to adjust it !!!)

Some ebc's have a boost guage in it, but unsure of if they have a "peak" setting, as you would want to hide it somewhere so you would have to get it out and then go for a drive with it put in a viewable spot so you can watch it and then put it all back again, seems like a big waste of time all over a $30 boost guage?

by hidden i mean out of sight from people looking in windows or other people in my car. My idea was actually using the console inbetween the drivers seat and the passengers seat and having all my gizmo's in there so i can just lift up the consol lid and tweek while driving. its not a bad idea if you dont mind losing the space

yeah its a good idea

a lot of ppl put 3 guages in that spot (boost, oil pressure, oil temp?)

and then the timer in the glovebox or under the steering column

my glove box holds the safc2 and the sitc, locked as I dont need to see them. set and forget

an 'turned off' turbo timer resides way up under the steering column, cant even get it to unstick!

the coin box above drivers knee holds the hybrid ebc

and the boost guage sits hard againt the door column above the indicator stalk

the only thing that makes my car look like a turbo is the boost guage (not that noticable) and the small fmic

mind you, that and being a stagea, is enough to snap necks :happy:

all comes down to budget.

also, depends on what you want. if you are after a 2in1 unit, then grab it and to hell with what other ppl think !

if you get an EBC

the only ones id reccomend are the Apexi AVCR, adn the Greddy profec B

do not get a profec B spec 2, they are horrrrible at holding boost.

I personally use an AVC-R. best boost controller on the market, hands down

Nah if money is now object go get a GReddy Profec E01

The ultimate in electronic boost control is incorporated in our multi-tasker, the PRofec e-01. Designed as a combination boost-controller, data display/logger and original e-manage programmer. The e-01 can provide superior boost response, increased boost, warning meter functions, 3 channel data-logging and access to programming features provided with the e-manage support tool.     • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
    • @KinkstaahKrinkle paint the "silver" alloy, not the red filter frame Engine bay heat won't be a issue worth worrying about as the silver alloy blocks it off on 3 sides, as for the top, the bonnet seals most of it and the big OEM CAI intake snorkel is still fitted in its original position  I will head into Clark's Rubber when I have some time to grab some pinch weld to tidy up the alloy after I paint it As for performance, I honestly wasn't expecting any, the only reason I got it is because the intake noise sounds cool to my old ears when I'm feeding it the beans Sometimes it's the silly things you do in in life that gives the most fun, and I do love anything that makes cool car noises In other news: I survived 4 nights at sea with Jackie not throwing me over board, holidays are continuing now as we are currently chilling at the Beachcomber in Toukley, after taking the coast roads from Sydney in the MX5, top down all the way, Toukley is where I spent a good deal of my youth holidaying during the summer months, there's lots of reminiscing going on,  and lots of beaches and old houses to visit Next on the list is to head to Batemans Bay for a few days, but we will take the Commodore out to stretch its legs, then Commodore hasn't really moved for months
