The SS is ugly as fark.

Sits way too high in the ass end.

Acceleration, for such a large car, the SS is quite quick, but according to someone who drives one daily for work (As a highway patrol car) the bastard won't stop. The brakes are utter shit house.

Also, they still don't quite keep up with a relatively stock R33 GTS-t... :(

Oh, and neither do the old SS...

Edit: So you know, currently my house has 2 commodores at it, it used to have 3, but I sold mine. I didn't like it one bit. Slow, rolled around, needed to really get up it to make it move.

My dad has a Sports V6, it grips up alot better then my one did, but it's even slower in a straight line, weighing in at nearly 200KG more then what mine did, with SFA extra power.

And so you know, I'm thinking of going back to a commo as a daily, but I know sure well, that they're a slow ass car in a straight line, body roll around corners, and build quality is pretty shit.

I've grown up with them in my family, and used to "love" them, until I drove an R33... I've never looked back!

I've always disliked them mainly for 3, 5, 7 and that doesn't really change with the VE..

The "Ecotec" V6 is not meant to be that great, and 190kw is dandy, but carting 1600kg around with it probably puts it in the same bracket at a 160kw 1400kg car of a couple of years ago.

The styling now I've seen a few around still doesn't take on me. I didn't like at first, liked for a bit, now I think I'm on the dislike the styling again :( Still prefer the more consistent Falcon BA style.

Plus, they're also getting up there in price, so you would expect a lot. With the price of the VT/VX about to get smashed by the new VE being popular, they will probably make a bargain when they are around $10k for something only 3-6 years old with most options the VE has. It may only be 75% what a VE is as a car, but at 1/3 the price, probably a good buy for those that need that sort of car.

Commodores will always be commodores, rubbish. That commodore advertisement, Australia 1 Germany 0. What bullshit, Australia will never ever be as good as the Germans. My personal oppinion of the the new VE is that it looks cramped up and boxy, ugly.

i think that ad is for HSV GTS not for the Commwhore SS........and you got to admit the new GTS with the magna ride suspension and 300 KW for 75K, is pretty good value for money compared to any V8 BMW, V8 Merc.....

Probably give the M5 or E55 a run for theire money..... :(

Personally will never own one thought.......way TOO big

I've only seen one that I liked.

It was a tidy calais that had been lowered with really really big wheels that filled every inch of those guards.

It really did look quite nice.

I remember thinking..... These holden designers obviously sketched up the new commodore with big wheels and dumped. Then as regulation has it they had to raise the car and put skinny's on it.

So lowered, big wheels they do look quite nice.

Standard they look like complete crap.

There is a silver Calais around the corner from where i live. Great looking car. Only it would have to be a manual. Some simple breathing mods and remap nets you massive horsepower.

It also makes me laugh when people keep saying "at the track"! How may people take their cars to the track?

Rather then compare the VE to older Skyline coups compare it to any four door car made in the world. There isnt another car that comes close in looks, performance and cost. You can shove your gey underpowered RX8s, Lexus whatevers, V35 sedans etc etc and i will take some 6L thanks :(

For what it is, it is a pearler.

I like to be not wet when it rains

That's soft, commuter driving talk. If you want to buy something comfortable and practical, buy a VW Golf TDi. You should be prepared to make some sacrifices for a good sports car, like having to carry a raincoat around with you. I want an Atom S2, and I'll buy bike leathers if I have to.

As an aside, don't expect much dynamic excellence from the current C6. I've been out for a cruise with the head of APS, who've got one as a development platform, and apparently the steering wheel is only vaguely connected to the front wheels. Through the Black Spur near Melbourne, I was significantly quicker than he was despite having a third the power, crap rims / tyres, and less driving ability than him.

The Z06 reviews I've seen online, of course, reckon its the dog's bollocks when it comes to track handling, but then in terms of fuel consumption and ride its not particularly practical either. :(

It has changed my view to the point of the following:

If I want a stylish larger vehicle which is a direct rip off of the following vehicles.

1995 Audio A6

Front of Ford Focus/BF falcon

Sides of a Magna 380

with poor build quality......

Then yeah it's a great car.

And skylines use cast iron blocks like that found in 1950's american cars as well. So what are you trying to say? That MacPhearson stuts are bad, they seem to do pretty well on lots of cars.

I don't miss driving my old ones at all compared to my 32 (VN SS Auto, a 6 Spd VX SS). VX was good fun with awesome torque but it never felt all that quick because it was so big, but it actually did handle quite well, and it was only lowered.

I like the new VE's. The GTS looks great I think. I'm a big commodore fan though, and if I could afford one I would buy an LS1 again and do some serious modding.

I just love the 32 because its almost three times smaller engine, petrol consumption is great, handling is exceptional and its just an all round great car.

The newest Holdens to me look like the R33 skyline styling.

I like the look but it'll be a boat on the road.

Holdens are normally heavier than their paper stats say.

In a mag they weighted a holden and a ford the ford was bang on exact weight the holden was 400kg heavier, so a 1.8 ton car was really 2.2+ton.

Well they mostly weigh them with no fluids in them, no air in the tyres, no paint etc, etc, but i doubt that would account for 400 kg.

And so what if it weighs 2.2 ton.

Some Mercs weigh like 2.5 ton and do 0 - 100 in under 4 seconds.

Also, they still don't quite keep up with a relatively stock R33 GTS-t... :(

Oh, and neither do the old SS...

never raced my 33gtst, doubt i will.

but i always thought that a SS would beat a 33 gtst on the straight?? both stock

correct me if im wrong.
