Hey,

Well my little brother will turn 16 a bit later this year so the first car hunt begins....

I was just after some advice and what kind of cars would fit his critera... Since i have bought my Skyline and we have gone to a couple runs, one from here and another mixed jap car run, he wants a jap car.

so the critera is...

Must be Non-Turbo,

Must be a Jap Car,

Must be Kinda Sporty,

Must be Nippy not Slow as,

Must be a safe and resonably reliable car,

Must be $6000 or Under.

Any ideas?

what does the starlet go lik?

it's a mid 90's gt turbo starlet! 1.3 litre 4 cylinder but it goes pretty hard for a 1.3 litre turbo! it's nothing really serious but it can hit 0-100kph in 7-8 secs!

Damn sorry its got to be NON turbo

s13/180sx SR20DE. Not sure if u can get them for $6000 but i wouldnt even think about CA18DE...even a twin cam rolla is faster :P

And if u want something different, my freind selling his AE92 Levin supercharged. He also is looking AROUND $6000. PM if interested in pics/info.

got to be non turbo and not super charged

there's not much he can pick up in the sporty jap car range for 6K other than the aforementioned non turbo s13. Get him a SSS pulsar its got an sr20de in it. Goes hard for what it is. N14 92-95(i think) model if he's lucky.

My advice for a first car is to get the latest model Corolla he can get for the money.

Yeah gotta agree, "Rolla's are pretty much bomb proof, go well enough, and resales excellent.

If he wants something with a more sporty image, you'll be getting an older car but I would choose an N14 Pulsar Q or SSS (SR20DE) or an ealier Twin Cam Corolla.

And, a front driver can let him master clutch/shifting/heel-toe etc without him wanting to be sideways everywhere like most young guys. It may keep him alive longer. :P

My advise is to get him a shit box for the first car we all know what we were like when we got our Ps BURNOUTS, DRIFTING AND RUNNING A MUCK. No use wreaking a good car let him learn in a 1000 doller r31 you can pic them up in good con for that. Then the future when he wants more power dump a rb20det in it

    • Well, the NA RB25 is nothing special in terms of the amount of power it makes stock, nor with any easy mods like extractors & exhaust, opening up the intake tract, etc, etc. And just like any small capacity NA engine, getting lots of power out of them takes a fair bit of money and, depending on how far you go with big cams and high compression and so on, quite grumpy to drive. So, boost is the answer. Many many many of them have had a turbo added. This is easy enough. Same as for any engine. Need the things you need to bolt on the turbo of choice, fuel system and management upgrades, clutch, stronger gearbox ( you do not want to run a boost RB25 through the NA box), diff, brakes, etc, etc, same as you would for most other NA+T things. Some much smaller number have had a supercharger added instead. These are good and cool, but have nowhere near the potential of the turbo route. All the same required upgrades apply. So, potential? Anywhere from not much to quite a lot, depending on how much effort and expense you want to go to. Is there value in the effort and expense? Objectively, no, there is not. If you're gaining enjoyment and don't mind blowing a lot of money on the project, then that's where the value is. Parts? Nissan dealers for some. Many many on-line vendors who do Japanese manufacturer spares (buy buying them from disposals at dealers around the world, direct from manufacturers, increasingly from Chinese knockoffs, etc) and warehousing them in Dubai or similar places. Amayama, Partsouk, etc etc. There are quite a few. Some local to Australia, some local to Europe, some local to the US. You can upgrade literally everything. For an NA, unless you're going to boost it, there's little point going past a nice exhaust, as I said above. After that (well, actually probably even before that) you should concentrate on making it handle the best it can, good brake components, light wheels and tyres, and just make it something to enjoy throwing through the curves. You'll never, ever win any drag races, so it needs to be taken as a nice point-to-point car. Throw in some Recaros or Brides, nice Momo wheel and gearknob, so it's pleasant to be in (because god knows, the inside of an R33 is not a pretty place!!) and away you go.
    • How many $$$ do you have to slip cams to logbook a car that鈥檚 not the orginal to the 1990 standard lol
    • Thanks for the update I truly appreciate it. I was trying to figure out the sensors.
    • My son recently purchased a 93 Skyline GTS25 (NA), I am hoping to get some insight as to what potential this car has.  I have auto mechanical experience, and I am capable of working on this vehicle, but I know nothing about it.  Where's the best site to purchase parts (maintenance, repair, upgrades)? What kind of upgrades are available?  Thanks again and I look forward to any information that you all have to offer!   Darrick
