Hey ppls,

I started to rip the car apart in an attempt to replace my climate control inlet air temp sensor and heater core that is leaking.

I remember when the car was like new and had 60k on the clock around 5years ago, the air out of the dash vents would hit my face hard and cool the car and myself down quick. These days its a real struggle to adjust the vents to get a nice cool breeze on to my face, I have to direct both center vents and close the 2 outer.

Pictures say a thousand words.

As you can see the a/c/heater core (unsure which one it) is is blocked with crap, u can see the fins towards the front where I scraped a little of the junk away.

Unbelievable. ;)

Yeah if you park outside alot all the ducting will get blocked up with leaves and crud. Also a good idea to clean it out the cores and boxes with soapy water, as any crap in there is directly related to what you smell coming out of the vents.

BTW: A/c core (evaporator) is a separate core to the heater core. From left it goes blower box, evaporator box, heater box.

Hmm, that vent doesn't look familiar, but mines pretty shagged at the moment, not very cold and sometimes vents dont open fully, so i was hoping to clean it out/maybe replace the motors

Ne ways, how did u get to those vents? Are they up behind the dash? Did u need to take the dash off? thx

Dash has gotta come out but its pretty basic once you got the stereo etc out. Two bolts up top under covers and a couple more on the bottom corners. However before you remove the top section of dash you gottta take off the sections that are attached below that. Before you go pulling it apart do a search on climate control diagnostics and test it out to find out whats actually wrong with it. Might save yourself alot of time. Possibly you have an A/C leak and thats why its not as cold.

Deren

If you think jap cars are bad rip apart a VS Commodore dash. :S

They are never the same afterwards, no matter what I did it would squeek rattle and that was when it was only 3yrs old. :S

The jap cars are quite good. Just be carefull not to break anything.
