I have decided to purchase a set of Hertz HSK165's but before I do I just want to check that my Kicker IX404 will have enough power to drive them properly. I am pretty sure it will but just want to double check.

I already have the amp and am 100% keen for the HSK's so let me know your technical opinion.

The kicker IX is the cheap line of kicker, so dont let the badge fool you.

It produces 40wrms or so at 4 ohm, but dont expect to much over that, the hertz speakers are 125wrms claimed input power, that is alot for a speaker and would most like only be acheiveable after running a high pass xover on the amp to chop off all the low bass.

Honestly, ebay the kicker, go for something more grunty that will run it easier.

Something like THIS AMP would give you more than enough with a couple of spare channels to run some subs.

Basically it seems like the HSK's might be a bit over the top right? Do you think the difference in the HSK's running off this amp will be worth the extra $200 when compared to the jaycars running off this amp?

I mean the jaycars are more than half the price so you'd hope the difference in sound was huge...

the difference in sound should be noticable. Keep in mind the jaycar splits have been compared to splits in the $300 mark. So they r well worth the money. But the Hertz splits u have chosen should be very good splits and a good choice. Just make sure they r installed proply, that is solid mounting place and later on spend some money on Dynamat on the doors, which is a sound deadener

The Kicker amp should go fine, it's not optimum, but will do ok.

Kicker usually underrate thier amps, the 40WRMSx4 is rated at 12.5volts too, so should put out more when the car is running at 13.8-14v.

All in all, since you have this amp already, put it in and see how it goes. It should be fine

I have a set of HSK 165s and i love them!!

For the price have to say it sounds incredible.

Has a fair bit of midbass also..

Now i have listened to jaycar spilts before and they sound good.. But i hate the tweeters.. way to high n harsh for my liking..

I would ditch that kicker amp..

Buy something like a boston gt20, or audison sr2 or similar..

Once these hertz are sound deadend i dont think you will need a sub!!

I currently have HSK coxials in the rear also.

Few of friends think i have a mini 8 inch sub in the boot!!

All runnin from just a headunit :)

Just waiting on some funds to sound deadend and amped!!

Gdluck with yours!!

thanks mate... the IX404 has been turfed already and I haven't even received it from the guy yet... the plan at this stage is to use the Kicker KX200.2 for the splits and hold off on the sub for a while. eventually i will get a nice new amp for the splits (100W+) and use the 200.2 for the sub.
