Hey, i'm lookin at doin my timing belt soon and was thinkin bout doin the cam gears as well, but know s**t all bout them. Just wonderin is there any advantage to havin them on or not, and what the difference is between the intake and exhaust one, since most companys have different part numbers for them. I've found some on ebay but dunno wether to go ahead and buy em or not, manly coz of reasons above

Dude............do a search, heaps of help here.

The value of adjustable cam pulleys/gears and what you get out of them depends on your supporting mods.

I'd also say that you won't need one for the inlet side unless you have removed your variable valve timing.

My advice - don't bother unless you have/intend to get supporting mods. Buy a reputable brand, avoid eBay.

Go to group buys or search on 'Slide' on SAU, you won't get a better deal from either option.

Have a look in the group buy mate you can get one for $90 delivered. This is what I did when I got my belt changed, only gained 5kw but for $90 thats not to bad. You only need one for the exhaust side as the intake uses NVCS. Have a look at the link below for more info on NVCS.

What kinda mods are we talkin here?? I've still got the car pretty stock, however lookin at throwin money at her later in the year. :yes:

Since you got an r33, you will only need exhaust side of it..

Supporting mods?? hmm i dont know what the other guy was talking about..

hmm to make most use of it after installation of the cam gear and tuning the gear itself is an aftermarket ecu.

With all the other usual mods.. Full exhaust, fmic, pod ..

I have seen gains from 5-10kw.. cheap power!!

What I mean is if you just buy a cam gear and slap it on, you might see 5kw.

If you have say a power fc and you install a cam gear you might see 10kw.

If you have a fmic, a bigger turbo, a power fc, zorst etc etc then you might see 15kw.

A cam pulley moves the cam timing, then it all depends on how much better your motor can breath, how much air can be forced into it, to make use of the move in timing.

I got adjustable cam gear put on my r33 and my tuner told me that he didn't tune it because there is will no power difference. My current mods are full xhaust, cooler, pump, safc, pod with heat shield and hks evc. does that sound right?

I found this quite interesting, and has lead me to buy one soon for when I get slide max oversize turbo tuned properly.

I have a tomei cam pulley, used it at 5 degrees and got good power, I've still got it on, but had to reset it to 0 degrees for my poncams.

On a ECR33 Gtst with poncams, you usually don't need an adjustable cam gear.

I use the pon cams on my GTR with adjustable cam pulleys. i have a fully modified head ported and polished, 0.5mm oversize valves the works, and with my gears set at 0 deg the car hits full boost at 4900 rpm, with tweaking of the gears and fiddling with the pfc, inj and ign timing the car would hit the full boost at 4600 rpm. so they are worth the hassle if you want to gain smth extra, these things are realy the bang for the buck,.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
