hey guys

car was running fine before i took it to epa.

when i got home and went to put m pod filter back on i dropped the afm on the floor from bench height and i think it may have been damaged whenit fell. (fell onto concrete)

the car now hits limp mode on/off and smells like it running rich? pressuming i have done some sort of damage.

what do you think?

certainly sounds like it :D good excuse to upgrade to z32 though. Someone with more knowledge might be able to tell you how to test it, but if you have some sort of o2 voltage monitor, that should give you the info you need to know to work out if its broken ?

at the moment car stutters and struggles to maintain idle like it doesnt know how much fuel to put it the engine. thats lead me to believe the drop has done the damage.

looks like a day off work to fix the car.

how much does a z32 afm go for?

If you have ever looked into a hotwire AFM, They have very fine wire which wouldn't take too much to damage - saying that 100,000kms on a car would have to take its toll.

Usually there are 2 - 3 wires, which measure resistance (hotter = less air flow, cooler = more air flow) which can be measured via voltage - hgow much current will flow through it. Basically they are unrepairable.

or the dry solders broke in the top section of the unit.

do a search on fixed gtr afms in the tutorials section, shows you how to repair the solders on the contacts within the unit.

try that before looking to replace
