A bit odd looking, but amount of machine time that would go into that is impressive. Berrilium-copper valve seats, thats an interesting choice of material.

If it took 13months to develop from scratch, it shows you how quickly a car manufacturer could churn an engine out with all the experience they have.

Just seems pointless to me, unless you are looking at it from a concept point of view.

It would need lots of counter balances by the look of it and they would just add weight and suck power.

Whats wrong with just making a v8 or v10?

i do like the idea of the engine, its compact, and would fit small cars nicely (ones with a short front end) but dont know about the balancing (i'm sure it could be worked out) and the manifolding. the exhaust/intake on that just seems wierd to me.... and exhaust manifold running up over the engine doesnt excite me....

that said, would be good to see one in an MX5 lol

whose gonne be first to make an X engine?

edit - forget the X, i actualyl thought about it and its not practical. lubing it would be a b1tch

i like when people think out of the square good luck to the bloke who had it built i would love to see it in action .it is easier to knock someone than to have a go at it yaself ..i love it for all you younger kiddies you should have heard the fuss whn mazda made to 10a in the r100 or when suzuki made a rotery bike .for all we know this prototype maybe the next gen donks in our cars

dont old planes have pistons all round?

it makes peak power at 10700 rpm, and peak torque at 7200, this would be a dog on the street... well thats my guess without actuall seing a dyno graph

Actually, i think quite the opposite, the further apart the peak torque is to the peak power, the more tractable it is, imagine it would probably pull quite well from 4500-10500, thats a nice wide torque band.

I think he was wondering how you oiled a piston that was upside down.
