Hey just checking if its safe to use an oil flush product on my car?? Ive got a R33 1996. Just want to do it to try and quiet down lifters as they tick when car cold. Ive thought about wynn oil flush. Ive heard stories it might result in oil leaks. any comments would be helpful.

personally i wouldnt use a flush on any car what so ever, i have used a cheaper oil to flush an engine before.

what type of oil are you using in your car atm?, how hot does the engine get, how dark is your oil and how often do you service it?. the best oil ive found to suit rb25 is motul turbolight 4100(changed every 3000klm) :) , try flushing your engine out with 2l of gtx2 or similar first :) (meaning when you empty your oil out, run 2l through the motor with the sump plug still off to flush as much old oil as possible)

what about the nulon lifter free i think thats wat its called.

my lifters tick like crazy and was wondering would it be alrite to add that stuff in as it says. otherwise how else could i solve this problem. i was thinking i could give it a try to get rid of it.

Most oil flushes are kerosene in a bottle. This stuff thins out your oil considerably and thats why most of them say not to drive the vehicle. Also they can wreck seals in your motor, as I found out when I didn't know any better.

The Nulon stuff looks OK judging by the MSDS but I don't reckon it'll do much. Worth a shot though.

Also pouring oil down the filler hole with the sump plug off achieves little. The oil comes out of the sump almost as good as it goes in. Why? Because its only probably travelling across 5% of the internal surface area of the motor to get to the bottom. It doesn't slosh or mix around.

I've done an oil flush before on the pulsar with no ill-effects.

I've also used nulon's "lifter free" on my R31 RB20 and it slightly changed the note of the engine, for about 10,000km. it didn't blow up or anything but it didn't fix the lifter noise either! (the problem seemed to be more related to me parking it on a hill every night).

I would only use oil flush on a new car or something that has oil flush used frequently, especially if it is turbocharged, it can create blowby, and start the turbo seals leaking. I would drain the old oil, put new cheap diesel oil in it, take it easy for a week and then change it again.(diesel oil has far more detergents in it)

Putting in a little bit of shit oil is just a waste of money. as said above, it's not going to do anything.

Also, running it with cheap oil is also a waste of money. Tell me this. you put your good oil in, and start it up and check the dipstick. if your engine is good (like mine), the oil is so clear you can hardly take the reading on the dipstick because you can't see it.

The oil starts getting dirty after a few weeks. why? because of the good detergents in your good oil. if you put in shit oil, it's got very little and very crap detergent. Defeats the purpose of trying to flush it, and it's just putting money in the toilet.

If you're worried about using a flush, use a really good oil always that has a lot of detergent in it, and you won't need to flush it.

use a ester based oil such as 300V or Redline. run it for a few 10,000km OCIs and u engine will look clean as..

    • What can't be done with a little bit of decking board or similar timber bolted to a hub flange via 2 wheel nuts is not worth talking about.
    • I noticed something. On the tps sensor and the sensor behind the adjustment screw is adjusted towards the far left. Are these screws supposed to be centered? (this sensor was in the same position before the tune as well)  Also attached a photo of where my car usually idles at when warm (sometimes a tiny bit above that). I think I might have screwed up the calculation and it might have better than I thought lol at 750rpm still not 650rpm though.      
    • So for both general interest of engine health, and to rule out any coolant/oil issues, I organised an oil analysis done on the 125,000klm oil Results below, all good, just a bit of fuel dilution which I'm not too worried about
    • This is actually a really good way of measuring what wheels fit. If only there was a similar measurement between hub face and suspension :p That said, it's probably pretty simple to actually measure it all with the wheel off the car for the rear. The front is a bit more complex but.. 
    • Being the top Google search result for R34 wheel-related inquiries, lemme throw down my experience. I calculated that 100mm from hub face to wheel face is about the perfect fitment for my ENR34 sedan.  I've been running 18x8.5s, ET35, with a 1" spacer. So, 8.5in to mm = 216mm. 216/2 = 108mm. 108-35 = 73mm. 73+ 25 (1" to mm) = 98mm.  If you wanna get close to this on dif widths, here are the offsets you'll want: 9" - ET around 15mm 9.5" - ET around 20mm 10" - you're crazy, but ET around 30mm All these should fit perfectly on a non-widebody, non-GTR Skyline. Note that it's probably the absolute max, and you're probably better off running a couple degrees of camber in this config, but it looks great, super flush.
