What if I don't want to unplug the battery lead?

it's far easier than shorting out your wiring harness, causing a fire, and watching your pride and joy burn to the ground.

ok maybe i'm exaggerating, but seriously.. taking the battery terminal off is by far the easiest way.

I personally do not feel comfortable wiht the shorting the pin method, because I have not read that in any of my nissan manuals (someone correct me if I'm wrong, because the indexing of the manuals is very bad).

Disconnecting the battery seems to work sometimes if it's disconnected for a long period of time but I hate losing my radio stations.

Nowadays, I just use my laptop to do it. I can reset the ecu and clear the self learn.

correct me if i'm wrong....and i know this is a long standing debate...but resetting the ecu does sweet fuuck all....apart from clearing your error codes.

the ecu learns everytime the car is switch back on. it doesnt have the capacity for long term memory of the parameters you're hoping to 're-learn'.

ive been told this by tuners, and other ppl who have technical knowledge of ecu's. and it makes total sense.

why would the ecu restrict its ability to adapt to new situations, and only work at its best when ppl with 'supposedly' inside information decide to disconnect their battery.

ive tried it, made no difference at all.

It made a difference to my car..

How?

Well it doesnt run as rich anymore..

It doesnt smell as much of exhaust fumes due to the car not running as rich..

The car actually felt a lot better once it was reset..

For me it worked. Gettin more milage.

----

Remember to dc the alarm.. Otherwise you gonna go deaf like me lol when you dc the battery..

And yup your headunit settings will be reset.

I thought the wires to be shorted were on the ecu, not the fuse box.

Resetting mine didn't do anything either.. Wouldn't the ecu just be set up to react to current environments and not remember the way the weather and your driving has been for the last 6 months.. That seem's the logical way to set it up to me :(

BTW, can I use nissan data scan to reset the ecu?

Reading here: http://202.43.226.57/

Last item on point 4 "clear self learn", that is the one isn't it?

(maybe I'll build one and have more fun with the car :stupid: )

i thought that the ecu would adjust itself to new mods quicker if you clear it, as it would adjust in large increments when first trying to learn, then smaller and smaller as it gets closer to optimum. when you change something tho, it has to use these tiny increments to get to the new optimum running...

so reset it and it starts off big again

thats my lil story :(

I don't know about data scan. Its not my favourite consult software. My software can result the ecu itself as well as the self learn.

What are you using dude? At the moment I'm using ECU Talk, but I'm interested in whatever does the best job.

    • Howdy all,   I had my rb25det S2 rebuilt and finally started it today but have run into a few issues  Engine sounds like a a diesel easiest way to summarise like small ticking, gets louder when revs are slightly adjusted  The engine builder repainted the engine cover leaving no where for me to go off with lining up the CAS so have it as central as possible so not sure it that could be affecting it?, changed the gearbox fluid too but won’t seem to go into gear when running, and only 1 to 4 when off having a hard time finding 5th and reverse anyone got any ideas or a base for me to start off? much appreciated
    • Well, no. It's an 023, which is pretty similar to an 040. Although it is hard to tell from the specs, as given.
    • Hmm. Maybe the (other thing I forgot about!) Haltech removes at least some, if not all, of the problem I described. I guess there is still the possibility of getting it wrong if the AC is set up/wired up for the Haltech as if it was in an R34 (simply because it's on a Neo), and that's playing foul with the R32 AC computer.
    • Glad it eventually came out Duncan!   I believe that might be 040. 044 is the inline pump, so has screw fittings in and out. 040 is more just drop it in fuel and the bottom is "open" (mesh) from my memory
