There's a guy somewhere down under.

Bikirom- Made for SR's, KA's, VG's etc.

It opens up your stock ECU so you can do anything the computer does.

Currently it doesn't work for the RB's, but it we send him some emails maybe he'll be interested in adapting his product for us.

Really???

Are there any that have daughterboard's available for the RB?

This one isn't just a Daughterboard Rom tune, you can hook your labtop to it.

No chip burner's needed.

how much did it go for ?

I just decided to buy it now at $1400. Missed out on one the week before which was $1300 and I just though screw it, what is a couple of hundred dollars anyway? I would rather not miss out on one at all. They are still fairly cheap for what they are anyway.

WOW

Skyline HCR32, ECR33, ER34 RB20DET, RB25DET $1710 $2520 $2880

powerplay rom tune is expensive.... It would be my first choice but its about $1000 to much at stage 1.

so... im paying for eprom + expansion board + software update + thier tune.... it says NO DYNO time... ahmmm wtf....

just a bit rich meh ? maybe theres some pricing im missing there but it SEEMS like they are pricing themselves out of the market ? like if they dropped thier price by about a grand AND were a decent tune I would think they would role in the sales ?

anyone in NSW doing this with a slightly more reasonable price range ?

I had a Powerplay ROM tune for a fair while, two actually. I got them cos I had an auto R34.

The first got me from 162rwkw to 189rwkw but was faster than the raw numbers represent. This stage was the best value and the one I would most recommend. That was stock turbo and full exhaust.

Second stage was highflow turbo and 480cc injectors. Got 228rwkw at 0.9 bar. I passed an R34GTR down the Eastern Creek straight (only just) that had been tuned (PFC) the day before at Croydons and had 250awkw.

I got fairly poor fuel economy with this tune.

Next I put some Tomei Poncams in and without a retune and at the same boost I got 255rwkw. It ran ridiculously rich in the midrange and was pretty bad on fuel too.

Then I did a manual conversion with PFC, running 1.3 bar and getting 272rwkw.

In short, with stock turbo at stage one I think it was worth the money. Also, I got the very first one. I'm sure they would have refined it since then.

He's in Brisbane now dude, nice and local to give me 24/7 product support need be

Sure is, my 34 runs the rom and it works great!

For the price of those powerplay roms you could get a microtech and take it somewhere thats puts in the time to tune them to perfection, which would surely get a better result (fuel econ, AFR and power) wise than a generic chip. I would suggest Anthony Rodriguez, he does amazing things with Microtech.

Really, how do you like it???

I really want one for my RB20DET, but it is not listed.

There is a guy in the states that was going to test it out, but he said that it cannot be supported.

I just emailed the bikirom guy, hopefully he'll show the rest of the RBs some support.

I know you can re-pin a RB20DET to run on a R33 RB25/26 Power FC, but I don't know anything about the R34 though.

Does anyone have any info that could help???

Yeah as far as I know the RB20 isn't currently supported, the R34's are as this was what he did the ground-up work on and was similar in development to the S13,S14,S15's

It can be done though as I've had this chat with him regarding a mates RB20 S13....just when he has the time

Not saying that the microtech wouldn't be better in a number of ways but it's a bit disingenuous to suggest that the price would be the same.

Purchase price?

Installation cost?

Tuning?

Total must equal well more than $1710.

I think this whole argument is going come back to horses for courses where previously PFC was the solution for many courses, now you will have to plan ahead better and choose the approptriate ECU for your situation.

I'd say the thread now has a conclusion. >_<

From what i read on the biki forums, RB20DET and RB26DETT can be done with an additional EPROM harness, but it's low on his list of priorities. The R33 RB25DET is supposedly very difficult, if not impossible, for some reason or other.

I like what he's trying to do, but from his posts his development seems haphazard, and being one man he can only do so much. He's all for including "cool" new features, but oft before bedding down the existing ones, there's a lot of bugs and updates so you'd have to be prepared to constantly fiddle around for it.

i.e. If you're a confident DIY-er, give it a shot, if you want a plug-n-play, drive in and drive away, I'd be very wary indeed.

My 2c.

All that said if I had a R34 I'd be sorely tempted.

so instead of a 900 purchase, no installation cost + tunning costs we now have the option for 1300-2000 purchase, depending on choice potential installaton cost or plug n play, + tuning.

* waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

i want a solution i dont have to save like 3 months for

Guys, thanks again for all the comments!

    • Oh bugger ! Your right ! Good old hydrogen sulfide. Takes me back to the good old school days !
    • I've owned a few scooters over the years, a Vespa PX oil burner was my first scooter, followed by a few others, including a little 50cc BeeWee that I used as a barracks bike, and I've had a blast on all of them, they really are the cheapest for of city/suburb transport around The only issue with scooters in Australia is lots of people look down on them due to their size,  maybe they need a big bike to make up for something else where they are lacking, unlike Europe and Asia where every man an their dog owns one, and now that filtering is legal in NSW, local traffic is never a issue Not to say I haven't owned my share of big cc bikes over the years, but they were for more blasting through the hills or Hwy riding where it needed to sit on Hwy speeds Safety wise, I ride like everyone is always trying to kill me, everyone is running a red, or running stop/give way signs, or generally asleep at the wheel, which most people are duringtheir commute, I also ride really safe, and give myself, and everyone else enough room in case I need to pull some hasty evasive actions, I've done a few rider training days over the years, which has come in handy on more than a few occasions  As for mods, there's nothing really, and yes your right about aftermarket exhaust, all you get is loud and obnoxious noises from them, like every 250-300 cc you hear with a aftermarket muffler, in saying this I did put a rear muffler from a 125 Aprilla on one of my old 125 scooters, it was horrendous and no amount of full face helmet and ear plugs would dampen that noise As for coming from the Harley, and what a overpriced POS that was, I no longer do big rides as my poor old busted joints ache after about 1/2 an hour of riding, long cruises are so much more enjoyable now in a car, so a big bike would be pointless
    • Oh wow, it's easy to forget how cheap these can be. Probably the cheapest way to travel. Though people in cars here tend to be morons and I would not feel very safe. Were scooters ever big in Australia? It used to be the thing growing up in Europe ~20 years ago. 50/70/125ccm Peugeot or Yamaha and some others. Utterly obnoxious Polini race exhausts. Kick stands that slant as much as possible. So loud. So much noise for really not moving very fast at all. But it felt cool at the time. Not sure where I'm going with this, but there is an aftermarket for mopeds! Though I'd have pictured you more for a Goldwing kind of guy after growing out of the Harley.
    • You need to know I am sorry for this.
    • As the MX5 isn't apparently "manly" enough, and I need something for runs to the local shops, and also take to my part time job at the salon, basically I can keep the MX5 away from car parks and stuff......like "flying lockers", I was wondering what I could buy to fix this issue LOL, I pick up a new Yamaha 125 Delight this arvo from Trooper Lu, basically a R1 that you can fit a slab of beer on between your feet, also, it was $29400 cheaper than a R1, so actually it's 2 x better than a R1
