To save the bashing of "You shouldn't have bought off Carmate" "Should have bought local" etc -

The only front bar I wanted was the "Nismo" front bar & I only ever found Carmate supplying them so I ordered one & had it shipped to Brisbane and here's where the story begins.

I just want to know if it's salvageable with the crack in the pictures. (I'm not the one who tried to "repair" the crack either, that's carmate.)

Overall the bar is absolutely pathetic quality, one of the worst I've ever seen but I really want this bar so If I can get it fixed up $$ I'll keep it.

I'm glad you posted these pics up as I was about to order a front bar off them this week.

It looks like its salvageable. you'll need to do a bit of fibreglassing in order to fix it properly, along with some bogging and sanding. Should come up pretty good if it fits on the car properly.

Hey Sam,

If you received the front bar in that condition, personally I would be returning it and asking for a full refund! You didn't pay $$ for what looks like a defective product they tried repairing.

If refund or return is out of the question, I would pay DMD a visit. Repair is most likely possible but will cost.

If you can get rid of this bar, again pay DMD a visit and see if they have anything off the shelf that will suit you.

I would try & return it except I know I'll get the whole "shipping is non-refundable" etc, so I figure it cost $80 for them to send it to me and similar for me to get it back to them so that's $160 I could spend trying to fix it..

I hate the way they can always squirm out of things, I'm still going to send them an email with pictures of the part they tried to repair because they can't fob that off as damage during shipping and see what they say.

thats a pretty shocking repair job they did. It looks like its as thin as carboard too, I'd return it if possible

Its definately repairable though, when i repaired cracks in my front and rear bar it costs $350 each time I cracked the damn thing on a driveway. That included the repair and respray and reinforcement fibreglass in the weaker areas, so its not cheap.

I have never had a good experience with a body kit shop that is called X. I am normally a very calm person and very pleasant to talk to.

After having dealt with them recently, I felt like I could possibly want to hurt them.

In answer to your question, that is a stress point, and it'll only crack again.

I don't like your hopes of getting a new bar (hassle because of shipping too) or your money back. They will not do it.

Geez thats thin for a nismo bar.. the Nismo bar on my R33 is extremely thick on the bottom third of the bar... so thick in fact that I crack the paint and never the bar :(

Id be sending it back... at their expense. Just mention the words :"Dept of Fair Trading" and they should see it your way!

if you want to fix it get some fibreglass filler. should be fine after that.

you can also get a fibreglass repair kit off supercheap and make the coat of fibreglass thicker (from the inside).

it shouldnt be too hard of a job.

The bodykit shop I went to known as X don't give a shit about legal action. Believe me. I've finished my law degree, and I have rerlatives who are lawyers. I can take them to court at zero expense to myself.

After buying shonky stuff off them, even with threats of legal action, they don't care.

I'm not surprised by what Manwhore is saying, it seems like that's the way it would be.

Seems like I'll get someone to try & repair it & hope it works..

I am however still going to email them saying about the botch repair job they did & see what they say.

I found they are pretty rude too.

I'm a spray painter mate and I've seen alot worse, even in plastac. The first two pics are a pretty commen default. but as for the rest it, it looks as if they were dumb enough to try and prime over it, but I'm going off photo's, they tend to look alot differant in person.

it is repairable though.

if you had it delivered then they are just going to blame it on that instead of accepting responsability.

I was a bit worried about a Top Secret GTR front bar I bought from Carmate. But when it arrived it was in great condition. I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

My whole kit came from carmate as dealer did it when I bought the car, so far I have been lucky as well it seems as the kit is in great condition and no complaints about build quality.

It seems to be luck of the draw. Some things are ok, some are not. As is the case with uneducated people, they just don't understand that the law is the law. Consumer protection laws exist to protect the consumer. They can make whatever gay 'terms and conditions' they like, but at the end of the day, the consumer protection provisions still apply.

I'm not going to name the people I bought the kit from, but basically, lets just say that things had a bloody crap fit. It was so spasticated it's like hitting your head on the wall. Imagine 1 inch gaps etc. It's like the mould was made by someone drunk, stoned and half passed out with only 1 arm and 1 eye upside down.

Long story short, I went to X shop, and told them the situation. They said that it was longer than 7 days after I paid for it. Note, I paid for it before xmas, but it was only delivered the day before I went to see them. Where does this magic 7 day number come from?

Vendors of poorly quality parts depend on two things...ignorance of the law and the cost of to pursue action. No one is going to spend all the time and money to go after X supplier, its just too expensive and time consuming. The best thing to do is search the forums, post your experiences so we can see who is a prefered supplier and buy quality where it counts. /end rant.

i bought my entire wide body kit (bonnet,guards,front rear bar etc.) from these guys it arrived next day all in one piece with excellent quality and all fitted up. so maybe it really is luck of the draw

Certainly seems that way.

Still haven't trial fitted it yet, hopefully it atleast fits well.
