Hi guys,

The brakes on my R32 GT-R have always been crap. The R33 GT-R Brembo upgrade is slightly better but they just don't deliver that punch that I'm looking for.

I've taken the plunge and bought 6 pot AP fronts and 4 pot AP rears (full kit with rotora, brackets, fluid etc.).

What I need to know id what else do I need? The kit comes complete with everything I need to get them onto the car but do I also need to get a stronger/larger/upgraded booster? And I am very curious about a brake bias adjuster for the cabin too. Any advice on that (what brand, where from?) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Justin, I don't think you need a brake bias controller, that brake package you've bought should have the right balance...

Have been wondering this myself does the booster need to be modded to run this kinda upgrade what about r33 brembos did u still run the same booster from the 32 or an r33 one? Do u wanna sell the brembos once u get the ap's on there, hint hint, might know someone who is interested.

i run 4 pot aps on the rear of mine 330mm

and f40 brembos on the front with 355mmon the front.

at just under 220km/h at wakfield after the kink it pulls up dead straight.

the fronts still get a much bigger work out. mand the rears just dont ware out lol.

i think youl be fine.

If you want brake bias adjustment you need a whole heap of other gear, brake balance bar/second master cylinder etc etc....way too much trouble.

If you find the rears are locking too early just put some less aggresive pads in there...but it sound like the balance should be OK anyway.

Out of interest, what does a set of 6 spot AP brakes retail for? more than the just jap 8 spots with 355mm rotors?

the main thing is that look look after the ol' beer baron with your old crappy, useless 33 GTR gear! I'll take it off your hands as a favour cause that's the kind of guy I am.

I think the kit you have sounds like it should be right as you are upgrading front and rear together.

I just put Porsche 6 pot's on the front of my car, and I think i need a bigger master cylinder, as the pedle is heap's longer now. So you might need to consider that.

Shouldn't do. AP know their stuff & don't go too large on piston area. Even the 6 pot CP5555 only list at 50.1cm2.

Just to add another me too response, I run 6 pot CSC's on the front and 2 pots on the rear and the car pulls up straight. The CSC's are pretty much an AP copy.

I have been running Pagid Blacks on the front and Hawk HPS on the rear with no problems.

You have a nice package there.

Regards

Andrew

    • See, that button sounds like perfection Duncan! My eyes really don't like light shining at them from a dash when I'm driving. Being part red colourblind, I've found for most cars that I can change colours on, I set everything to red, so my eyes see the elast amount of colour! I miss normal gauges in cars
    • bro, knowing the Japanese in  the 90's, i wouldn't be surprised if they shared components across their model lineup.
    • Maaaan so many "little" things  i rly hope my old RB20 would be "ok" and not too bad. I try to learn what and what not do i need. I look at crossmember at it looks different...even parts numbers are different. Wiring and all that i rly do not know...yeah someone mentioned the speedo thing. On that yoke clip. I rly do not know what can and cant be done "custom" so that is why iam asking to know and not be suprised 🙂  I know what it looks like
    • Oh, there's also the gearbox crossmember which will probably be different between the small box and the big box, and the wiring loom will probably need to be modified, because the plugs for the switches etc, will probably be different. And I think the speedo on the small box R34s is from somwhere stupid, like the diff, possibly, so you'd need to work out what needs to be done about that (assuming it is different). I think the thing you need to realise is that the front end of that yoke is a large hollow tube with splines on the inside that mates with the splines on the box's output shaft. It is a dedicated thing - not available "aftermarket". They were made to suit that box, by the car's OEM.
