Hey,

was interested in getting into off street dragging. was interested to kno who in adelaide does it?

I just need a little advice to get started.

Whats the best way to get into it? When, where etc does it take place?

And are there saftey things that need to be done to the car?

Any help would be great.

Yeah its been TOO long since AIR has last been functional for street drags.

Basically the car had to be in good working order and you had to have an approved helmet. All you needed was fuel and some fun!

AIR was crap because it was sooooooo slippery because it was never prepped unless it was for competitions.

this is crap! so where getting labeled as hoons and us young people are being stupid on roads yet for some of us that want to do it legally south Australia doesnt offer a place for us to do it!

Well no not at the moment........... and it's not the governments fault, it's that dickhead Bob Jane that NEVER upgraded the track, and then took Bill to court over it, which then took months! So after the court case which i believe has now ended with Bill winning, he is going to rebuild the whole place! so be patient and we will have a prime motorsports park close to town in the coming future!

If what darren is right.

Then Bill will be rebuilding the whole A.I.R raceway.

WHich is much needed as its very old now. I have not been there ever but have heard about it being very run down.

I hope it gets fixed up ASAP as yes we do need somewhere to go to have fun in the controlled environment.

I have heard rumours of the track(drag strip) bieng rotated so it's not into the sun........and also a jet boat sprint track in the middle of the circuit!

sounds good but the only problem now is, ill be dead by the time i see that happen!!!

You gotta remember though it would cost millions of dollars for someone to do a redevelopment like that.

And they gotta make money. So they need more than SAU going out every friday night to do that.

I'm sure it would do ok though as SA has a huge car scene. But they would need to attract actual drag events. With interstate and better yet international competitors.

They havent had trouble in the past. The only thing they need to worry about is pricks breaking into peoples cars in the car park. A big turn off for anyone in the past...

The biggest problem I can see with that idea is creating an area for sufficient runoff at the end should anything go wrong - the strip would have to be moved down substantially, and it would cease to be a part of the racing circuit.

      Haha actually I did join back then under a different email address,  I couldn't re-activate my account so made a new one! I didn't post much anyway so not missing out on much. Amazing to see how the value of the cars and parts has changed over the years, also ACT section appears to be dead now.

      Thanks... It's in pretty good condition overall, probably due to not being drifted/tuned however being a daily driver has taken its toll. Had 100k on the clock when I got it, up to 180k now. Unfortunately it's not 100% dent free, it's got a small dent on FLH side and broken indicator from where I hit a small kangaroo at high speed. If you look at closely at pic #5 you might spot the dodgy trailer light repair my old man and I rigged up as temporary repair! - It's still there due to a combo of needing the car as daily driver and then too lazy/busy to fix properly. I've a couple of other minor accidents accidents as well but nothing major. One required a new front bar and unfortunately the smash repairer ordered the normal gtst one and not the aero bar. Needed the car back asap so just went with it, regretted ever since.

      I can't believe that anyone is foolish enough to believe that the base maps are for any other purpose than to drive the car up onto the trailer/truck or gently creep it to the dyno. No matter how good they are, they can never be any better than the factory maps**, and only the foolish trust those on a significantly modified setup. **Yeah, yeah. I know there's also the difference between factory maps being fixed to certain injector sizes and MAP/AFM/VE relationships, and the likely aftermarket ECU base maps being better able to handle the sorts of changes that would render a stock ECU dangerous, like different sized injectors. But let's just ignore that for the moment, because the principle is still the same.
