although pricey, motec and the autronic are the way to go....personally i would stay away from the rest.

and choosing between the two mentioned i would go the latter, the autronic is the better unit, however harder to tune and only one guy(mech engineer with lots of race exp.) in melbourne if not australia i would trust to tune it....pm me if anyone needs to contact him.

At the dyno day, the car was running on 19's" and not 100% tunned. Since then i had retuned, using my stockies, and ran a 190rwkw, on a dyno dynamics dyno, operated by the rep. You liturally feel the torque loss with the 19's as you are driving, but it is worth it.

The struggle is finding the right tunner. The car is now running much smoother and am happier with the performance.

**But take heed to what INASNT is saying, if you are not planning big power mods stick with the apexi piggy-backs.

you dont have to get the data logging if you dont want to and will save dollars...

i agree that motec and autronic are for the more serious applications, however they are a lot more refined units with many adjustment points, allowing for a much more polished end result, from idle characteristics to the power and torque curves....even will increase reliability.

hey let me know when u do that mod, then u can do my hand controller 2! :D

Mines is a good choice, they have the best tunning and computing tech.....recommand!

i am usgin HKS F-Con S, cheap and great! but can't find any one really good at F-Con S in Melbourne, i went to Sydeny to tune the car!!! but i heard one on Richmond they could tune it, but have to wait until the end of this year.............can give them a call:

SHOP: Promech

Vince: 94281519

he is the owner, he is the offical HKS dealer in Mel.

Wrong, what u need to do is tell the Mines workshop in JP what kind of modifacations u done to ur car, they have the software and input the data in to fit your specifications.

one of my friend who put on a HKS GT turbo in his skyline, and using Mines computer, runs pretty good!

hmm some1 thousands of miles away programing your computer without knowing what condition your parts are in and how exactly it is setup doesent sound all that accurate when with u can get something like a pfc, motec, autronic tuned infront of your eyes on the dyno in real time.

Guest PatPat34

you are both right.................you have to provide some detail info to them in Australia such as petorl here is #98 max, but in Jap is over #100,

and i also agree that computer need to tune by mech with notebook on your car, but Mines seems done pretty good job with this, They provide lots of computers to HK, Malay, Aus and even North America. Although it can't achieve max potential from the computer, but still powerfull enough. Same as Mugon from Honda, they also provides computer like Mines do, but that computer is not sub-com but replace the whole stock one.......might be a different story.

i like Motech, but it is illegal to use onroad.

just as an example come do the same thing with their chips here in aus.U tell them your mods ex cam, head work and they program a chip for you based on generic data they have gathered on how your car should perform and program that data in. The reality is that every car is different.

My friend had a come chip sone like this on his 304 and the a/r ratios were all farked when he got it tested on the dyno, fact is u cant tune a car based on other cars and data.

i aslo had experience similar with that, when i bought my F-Con S from HK. they help me tune the computer and told me what i need to do is go back, "Plug and play". but result come out there is one cylinder did not function. then need to send back, and tune again.

after that i went on dyno to see the difference with and with out F-Con, it shows me when i run full boost (1 bar), it has a little better effect. thats y i went all the way to sydney and tune it with BD4s. and it come out pretty good.........

as INASNT said it takes a lot to tune an ECU properly....

my friends sr20 bluebird had the motec ecu, and the car was dynoed a few times over a month period, got feeback from the driver, under different driving conditions to fine tune all aspects.

The final product was very impressive.

I do not mean to offend anyone, and it is just my opinion, after many many months of research and trials of different ECU's later, that i beleive autronic is better than the rest.

Downside is that it is not a cheap unit, and it takes many many hours on the dyno, which is not cheap, to fine tune.

And on top of all that only one guy who can tune it properly in melb.

yer i got my powerfc done by ice, and nigel spent ages fine tuing it on ther dyno but still on cold nights and under differnt loads etc i got some pinging, i just noted when this happened and went back as i found new areas that needed fine tuning and we ironed them out within a week, think i onloy went back twice which was awesome considering now my car is 100% ;)

    • Damn it, I was at work last night, and stayed in a room there during the storm with the car outside, but undercover, I just went downstairs and well....there was a large steel locker that has come from some place last night, it wasn't anywhere I could see yesterday, and yeap, it landed on the fraking car....of course it did..... LOL So, I'll need to take it back for paint and panel, luckily it was only the boot that took the hit, so it could have been worse Serves me right for staying at work and getting on the cans with some of the boys
    • Yeah, really happy with how it all turned out As for aftermarket lip, nah, I'm not really a fan for practically reasons on a street car that gets driven everywhere  I did have the full lower kit on my 2015 STI, but found the front lip scrapped alot, even at stock 4x4ish ride height As the NC sits now, with the lowest point of the car at 110mm, so just legal, some steep driveways and steep speed humps will still "just" scrap those little plastic OEM air dam thingies on the undertray just before the front wheels
    • Here's one I help build and tuned a decade ago, Garrett  GTX3071R Gen 1, T3 twin scroll 0.83 rear housing. Went from larger 272 cams down to smaller Tomei Poncams to help with the low end. S13 non VCT motor. Car was purpose built for the track, hence low down was the focus. Note the actual dyno chart shows lower boost, however the EBC and boost gauge showed 1.9Bar (Ignore the torque, I was young and didn't know how to set derived torque)
    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
    • Awesome writeup and details. Thanks for sharing the story so far. I can relate to parts of it with my previous car and some of the issues I had to deal with.
