"So you guys went through Taranar?" - Majanal

(i must learn how to use the forums and quote properly)

The skyline and gto boys went... It was great fun, nice road. Got some good pics outside Oconnell Pub :)

How is it these days... I heard that they have updated the roads mostly through there... is this true?

Dan.

PS. To Quote simply press the quote buton in the bottom right hand coner of the post that you want to quote... shit that rymes... I think.

I enjoyed the meetup and getting to meet some of the guys like mark, neil, scott and dan...

We ended up getting back home around 6:30pm that night after spending the arvo in the little town of bathurst. I heard something about a WRX (white one with P's on it) getting defected but I think that was the only intervention.

I would like to thank Dan for his insights on the way up and his help with Overtaking (will consider carefully next time before doing it!)

so where is this Taranar drive?

Yeh, i agree, it was good to meet you guys, look forward to catching up on cruises to come ...

The "Tarana road" (not actually called that i dont think) is a back road between Lithgow and Bathurst. If when coming out of Maccas lithgow you turn left instead of right onto the GWH and followed that for about 5mins, there is a right turnoff beside a big servo which takes you past lake lyall... follow that right though.. Kinda hard to describe, but i always take that road even though it adds about 20mins to the trip..... (well it should anyway :).

Now lets try a quote....

Heaps better than it was... I would have never taken my car on it how it was a few years ago. Now its all pretty smooth except for about a 1km of patchwork.... There is one section of hotpack tar... mmmm super grippy.. oh and the rollercoaster jump is as good as always...

How many skylines went on the highway ?? How was the drive ?

That was one of the best cruises I've ever been on! Thanks for showing us that back way to Bathurst Roman33T....it was awesome!

The mountain was fantastic...I never realised just how twisty and steep it is.

I'm compiling a video of the cruise...it sould be ready for download tomorrow.

The cruise raised over $700 so that's about $20 per car.

Awesome day...good to meet you all!

Neil, Are you aware how close you came to a serious accident on the mountain?

A group of us were watching you come around past us when a black silvia decides to pull out in front of you. Lucky for you he had traction problems.

Everyone who didnt turn up, and didnt go the back way to the mountain from Maccas really missed out. The road was perfecly fine except for some small patches. We encounted a uniformed officer in a excel, and a old gentleman who thought it was fine driving on the wrong side of the road - redgts-t found this out.

Whats the ETA on more pics and video footage?

Mark

    • I’m thinking that’s the route I’ll  go, thanks for the input!
    • Hey all, my 2004 Nissan Skyline 350GT overheated the other day with coolant boiling and leaking out of the coolant reservoir when I was parking. So today, I started it up again just to see if it was a thermostat/head gasket issue. After about 20 mins of running, temps were normal again, no coolant was leaking out and the upper reservoir hose was warm but my engine suddenly cut off. I checked the oil dipstick and cap when it was running and there was no white foamy residue and the exhaust did not have white smoke. I tried starting up the car again but it would only crank, similar to when I had a camshaft sensor issue just that now there’s no check engine light on the dash. Any ideas? Unfortunately I don’t have an OBD2 that can read the Nissan's programme.
    • Bump on this to not make another post, had a ‘head drain’ leak on me and have the engine out as we speak. Planning on just putting a new freeze plug back in , plug the tapped holes and just be done with that headache.    Now I still want to relieve pressure to allow oil to pass down the blocks returns easier. I’ve seen catch cans with multiple vents help folks with this issue on this forum.  I’m wanting to make my own. I have some pictures here of my setup if anyone can help how I should plumb and design the catch can I would deeply appreciate it !   rb25 Oil upgrades: 1.0mm restrictor n1 pump/billet gears extended crank collar  extended sump with trap doors/w welded fitting
    • The Frenchy's kit is the way to go forward. A modern compressor that weighs about 1/2 as much, is at least twice as efficient, and will do a good job on R134a. And of course the kit has everything else you need to connect it up and have it work properly.
    • Hey all , I am in the process of having the AC system in my r32 GTST converted from r12 to r134a and I’m being told my compressor has gone bad and I will need a new one. I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for what is the best route to go aside from dropping $1500 on a new oem one? I did see that Frenchy’s performance garage offers a kit to mount a Toyota compressor, has anybody actually used this kit on their car? Or is there anywhere I could purchase just a clutch? Any help is appreciated.
