Hmm so my insurance has just came up for renewal ($500 lower than last year) and i've noticed that the agree value on the car is only $9000, i dont remember agreeing to $9000.. $9000 would buy a R32 Auto Non turbo with bad paint and mine is the opposite, anyway i've tried ringing and can't get through, but if i press the whole first owner out of japan good condition great engine thing will the bump it up? It's worth around 11.5 i reckon

you will find this is normal these days for Just cars they are good at doing this.. I had the same problem with my car dropped $1500 within 3 days with a new paint job...

Call shannons they are agreed value may cost a bit more to have a higher value but worth it if something goes wrong. :O

Well last year it was worth $9k too i think i just originally didnt notice/care they put it so low >.<

Um i don't think shannons is an option for me, i'm only 20 and i rang them when i was 18 and they told me they couldnt insure a P-Plater turbo car, is that right?

I'll ring them and hopefully they don't bump the premium up too much

Just Cars suck

they insured my N15 SSS for an agreed value of $7400

AAMI insured it for an agreed value of $14K

in short JCI sucks

Thats funny because Just Car is underwritten by AAMI. You think that they would be simillar

you could pick up a 5spd turbo R32 GTS-t for $9K.

My guess is thats the value Just Cars considers to be the market value. A true agreed value should only be valid for the term of the insurance contract, which is usually 12mths. After that, its a new agreement. if your not happy with $9K, call them and tell them that and see what else they offer.

something might be up, my car is insured for abit more than 11 as when i said i installed my fmic they bumped up how much its worth. Other than my fmic my car is listed as stock though.. not even a sound system :S

Agreed value means they insure it for what you tell them, and pay the premium to match. Of course, they have to agree, but that shouldn't be a problem if you are reasonable. There is a clear distinction between MARKET and AGREED value.

I played around with their calculator. Anything less than 10k has the same rate as 10k (9, 9.5), so I'd push the agreed value up to that (eg - same premium).

Once you state a number past 10k, they pass the risk onto your premium (Damn Actuaries)

    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
    • Sorry for reviving an old post, but I'm having the same hot idle tick issue. Did anyone ever find out what it was?  I have checked/ replaced Injectors Coils checked Lifter clerance (is at zero) Checked Cam lobes Replaced exhaust gasket and studs Would appreciate any advice this is driving me nuts
