Compliance for the M35 Stagea is now available so we're ready to find you the perfect Stagea today !

At the moment only the 2.5L turbo engined Stageas can be complied up to December 2003 models, with more models to be added in due course as emissions and model testing continues during 2007.

The M35 has significant improvements over the previous model Stagea (C34), presenting a smoother and more refined appearance as well as better performance and fuel economy. Prices will start from about $21,000 complied, plus tyres and ORC's and will range up and over $30,000 for as new examples and special models. The non turbo models will be cheaper again, at well under $20,000. Clearly great value for money.

The 2001+ model is a luxury 4-door wagon which was produced in 4WD with the 2.5L VQ25DET (NEO) engine. It has 280 ps (205.94 kw) @ 6400 rpm and max. torque of 406.98 Nm @ 3200 rpm making it a very interesting family wagon and sure to give Volvo wagon drivers a nice little surprise at the lights.

We can of course source Stageas to order directly from auction just like any other model. From the Register, The VQ25DD models aren't eligible. All others are. This means you can choose from:

2WD

350RX VQ35DE 3.5ltr, 200kW/1580kg, V6 Engine - 126kw/tonne.

350RX AXIS VQ35DE 3.5lt, 200kw/1610kg, V6 Engine - 125kw/tonne.

350RX AXIS S VQ35DE 3.5lt, 200kw/1580kg, V6 Engine -126kw/tonne.

300RX VQ30DD 3.0lt, 191kw/1590kg, V6 Engine - 120kw/tonne.

4WD

350RX FOUR VQ35DE 3.5ltr, 200kW/1670kg, V6 Engine -119kw/tonne.

ARX FOUR VQ35DE 3.5ltr, 200kw/1710kg, V6 Engine - 116kw\tonne.

350RX FOUR AXIS VQ35DE 3.5lt, 200kw/1700, V6 Engine - 117kw/tonne.

350RX FOUR AXIS S VQ35DE 3.5lt, 200kw/1670, V6 Engine - 119kw/tonne.

250T RX FOUR VQ25DET 2.5lt Turbo, 206kw/1680, 122kw/tonne.

The VQ25DET version is available, with 122kw/tonne (awd version). That's pretty close to what our stageas come with...

The differences that I can think of is that its V6 (ie. not inline like the rb's) and has VVT on both intake and exhaust cams (pretty sure RB25 neo only has vvt on intake).

The upgrade potential should be similar to what we have also, but I have no idea what tuning options are available for VQ engines, especially since this is the only factory VQ turbo engine I'm aware of (apart from the new GTR).

Still, another major difference is this is built off the new nissan platform, where the engine sits behind the front wheels instead of above them like in our cars. This would improve handling and ride comfort. I'd say the new stag would give a much more refined and smooth ride. That may or may not be a good thing to some... :P

Maybe they'd look better in real life (anyone actually seen one or been in one?) - most cars do. I like the front end but would agree the rear looks quite ugly.

still, in view of the newer technology, and better fuel economy and ride comfort, i'd be tempted...hard to say really, the looks do kind of override all of its good points >_<

I think the new Stag looks pretty good. I actually dont mind the new dash as its a bit more contemporary than the Series 1 & 2 and, hey, you cant stop progress!

A couple of observations on the VQ25DET model are:

Advantages:

New platform

improvements in interior design

switch to VQ engines (consistenly ranked in the top 10 engines in the world)

Reasonable increase in torque - up from 362nm to 406nm. Something the s2 NEO suffers from is a lack of torque to overcome the weight of the Stag, so this should improve the standard amount of torque

Disadvantages

Cost. Likely to be significant increase in cost for Series 3 Stags

Availability of cheap part upgrades for VQ (RB series has heaps of easily accessible performance bits)

No real increase in funtionality (series 1 & 2 Stags already highly spec'd)

Its still a Stag though, and likely to grow in popularity once they are complied for OZ.

My 2c worth.

I was surfin the other day and found where some US mob had the V6 motor

producing 1800hp, with another mod on the way for 2100hp.

Thats alot of farkin hp, if its true.

At my accountants place last week I saw a video of a "Street Legal" big block Chev putting out 2000 HP. Registered. Iteven had a parachute to help you stopat the local Big Mac for a burger and fries.

Anything goes in the good ole USofA.

Has anyone seen the "Ferrari" thru Paris" dvd. With a very good sound system ($20,000) it makes the hairs on your body stand UP. Leave the M3 RS4 clip for dead. I'm trying to get a copy of it and will post it when ever.

Again totally off topic...but have a look at this!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijklIg3aLko .....Balls o' steel!! BTW not a real fan of the M35 stag....bit too Volvoish especially at the rear end 4 me. Might grow on me if I see one in the raw done up. Anyhow enjoy vid!! :P

They're great. I'm hanging out for the VQ35DE model to gain compliance though, as that model comes in a manual. I'll be waiting a while anyway, so no rush yet. My good ol' series 1 will do me another few years.

That rear wing is a bit much, but the rest looks alright... At least it takes some of the blandness away.

I like stealth, but I don't like bland.

i heard from somewhere before that they are realsing the 3.5ltr turbo engine whoch is like the current Rb26. Ther will whack it into the new skyline and this 350z will get that engine as well.

I absolutely love the M35's, i reackon they look tops, I almost cant find one thing wrong with them except the lack of performance.

I love the whole exterior and interior, i just think that the power has a little to be desired for

And anyone wanting to bring them in privately, here is the DOTARS approved compliance centre link. Just check their schedule. Others will probably follow soon.
