Anyway i own a R32 with minor mods and 17X7" boring wheels, standard suspension (sits very high)it's a pretty plain looking car and everything else on it is as it was from factory.

I'm about 6 foot tall, wear glasses (when i'm being pulled over) have neat hair and look young..

I Just got pulled over (xr8 unmarked was waiting and followed me for a while hoping i'd do something stupid)

They fully checked out EVERY aspect of the car, no exaggeration (it took them 34 minutes) and came up with (Note: Major defect notice):

Light globe blown X 1 (theres three and the middle one is blown, you know the ones that light up the plates.. this is probably the thing that shits me most, who f**king checks this out, i mean honestly.. it'd pass a roadworthy, specially since it's got 2 working ones

1X Front Tyre to be replaced (It's at about 85% tread, and totally fine, no shoulder wear or anything, i work for a tyre company..)

Handbrake X1 (in case my second one wasn't working) Needs to be fixed (It was like 30 degree's above horizontal and there was nothing wrong with it)

Front Structural integrity (even though i explained to him that it wasn't part of the chassis, merely a firewall)

Oh and he was going to defect me for a boost controller.. I kept telling him there fine, he informed me he'd know if they were legal and.. surprise surprise it wasn't on my list of defects..

He also took pictures of just about everything, including the T Pieced piping running into the cabin (it's blocked off) that i used to run my boost gauge off.

Now i would have been cut about this if the guy was ok, but they both spoke very rudely and there body language was very aggressive. Both got me out of the car, stood over me and talked to me about how stupid it is to own an imported car.. i informed them that in many ways they're better (politely), and he said sure they are, so dickheads like you can speed and do burnouts. I tried to get a word in but they both turned away got into there car and sat there watching me for 10 minutes before they drove off

Anyway, i've been pulled over 25 times in the last year, never been done for speeding or being a nob, and i've never met a polite police officer. As soon as they see an imported car, they becomes arseholes.

Anyway, enough cop bashing, thats not what i'm about

I'm just wondering if theres any one doing anything about all the crap import owners are getting, purely for owning an import?

Like has anyone tried contacting a local electorate and getting them to do something.. Even a maximum number of defects.. Or make it fair and convince him to get a group of cops to do such a comprehensive run over of other non-high po cars, and see how many of them get defected.. Or even just complain about cops attitudes in general towards P plated import drivers.. About how often people are being pulled over, about how often bullshit is being made up at peoples expenses about how often people (my friend had his arm broken for telling an officer to fug off) people are being abused, etc..

I think the 18-25 year old group is putting up with too much crap and not complaining enough.. We are the immediate future, and i can't see why things can't be changed if we want them to be... Within reason..

Anyway i'm mainly just wondering if theres any movement being done, or does stuff just escalate out of control and contribute to things like noble macdonalds.. i.e. has anyone contacted a lawyer

Is it? I've had heaps of cops look at it and never dick me on it, i thought it was ok, anyway thats not really what i care about, just read the last bit of my 1st post

I live in north eastern suburbs, don't cruise chapel or anything and don't go near any macdonalds on a friday night

Look at the mods in your sig...

Out of the 4 that i count as mods, 4 are illegal.

Why should defects be capped? Thats absurd.

Therefore if you get pulled over, you get defected. Dont whinge.

Is the car yello like your avatar?

If so, you also want drive a car that attracts attention... then be prepared to deal with the un-wanted attention that also comes with driving a car like that.

Its part and parcel of how the world is.

Honestly, 25 times in a year is only twice a month.

Considering people in the age group of 18-25 spend quite a fair portion of time on the road at times when the likelyhood of being pulled over is greater... thats not too bad.

It wasnt un-known for me to be pulled over 3 times a week in my car, but you get that driving a car with 18's and an exhaust you can hear from 2 blocks away.

You drive a car of signifigance... that also happens to be illegal.

There is nothing you can do, and nothing you should be trying to do in my view.

If you car was factory, then you would have a leg to stand on... but you dont.

IMO its simple, pipe down

Illegal? I count 2, maybe 3 if u count other things. Did i ever in all my defects get done for any of those things? (excepting the FMIC because the defects was in a way connected to my FMIC installation)

Anyway it seems that you seem to think that i'm the only one who has any problems (that and normally u close topics about said problems) or perhaps the victorian police force has a bearing on what you reply? Who knows but your reply wasn't terrible helpful, tell you what, any other people reading this topic should just read the last 4 paragraphs, tx

But the last 4 paragraphs are crap.

You own a skyline, this has been going on for ages, deal with it. Don't like it, sell the car.

If you really want to take it further, stop talking on forums and contact a lawyer. I dont think you'll get very far though. You were defected in a defectable car.

luck of the draw, in all honesty i havent really come accross any decent cops. Drive a stereotyped hoon car and be f**ked over as often as they can. I used to own a vl turbo ... i have been pulled over twice or more ... in the one day ...

when i had my r33, never got pulled over once ... not once ...

now in my munro, i barely even get looked at, i have had cops do a uturn just to follow me and pull me over, and follow me for 15 minutes before pulling me over ... and now, its incredibly loud, anyone that knows me, have most likely heard the car ...

just agree, the sooner they are done the quicker u can go on ur merry way. and yes they do take pictures of things these days, just so people cant change things and go, i dont even have that mod on my car etc ... or something like that ... evidance if u were to put it ...

Turbo - illegal

ECU remap - illegal

Exhaust - illegal, as i assume without much doubt its over 89dB

EBC - illegal

4/4 i come up with pretty easily, and i reckon if i saw your car i could nab 4 more things right off.

The Vic Police really have no bearing on my response's.

I've had a very generous share of (and probably more than you will ever see)... Court appearances, EPA's, Defects etc etc...

I'll fight the laws im wrongfully charged/find for, and fix the ones im correctly charged/sighted for.

However, where im far different to you... I take it on the chin and move on.

Its my choice to drive the car, its my choice to make modifications that might be illegal. So therefore if i get a bit more attention than the bloke driving the tampon taxi next to me, then i really cant complain.

And thats really my point, you really cant complain.

As for the the "outbreaks" being violent, what incidents are you referring too?

Nothing comes to mind because such incidents (of late) have not been motivated by people being defected, and you would be very mis-informed to this this was the case

write a letter to the chief of police explaining how you are un happy that you have been pulled over in your illegally modified import skyline and think its unfair.

im sure it will be on the notice board for a few weeks so they can all have a good laugh.

in all seriousness, yes they will hassle imports. if i was the chief of police i would be asking my guys to hassle imports also, they are generally illegally modified more so vs your avg mum & dad car

if I was cop and bored of busting shoplifters at K-Mart or going to false calls from old ladies i would go bust a few import cars like myself.

pitty they cant bust more of the doof doofs that keep trying to drag me.

DO THE CRIME, DO THE TIME...HAHA

As soon as they see an imported car, they becomes arseholes.

Probably because they read threads like this one on car forums.

At the end of the day, they are just doing their jobs. If they pull an import over, chances are they are going to find illegal mods. Its not rocket science that most people modify their imports.

If you feel you were treated unjustly or unfairly by the officers who pulled you over - write a letter stating so. As mentioned above, it probably wont do alot, but you might feel better.

Oh besides reading, seeing and hearing, and personally, i've had a mate who's been slammed onto the ground and almost a broken nose another with a broken arm and another who's had his side mirror broken off, now out of about 15 import owners i am friends with 3/15 seems pretty high..

AND YOUR MISSING THE POINT, MY COMPLAINT IS THE WAY IN WHICH IMPORT DRIVERS IN GENERAL ARE TREATED NOT ABOUT DEFECTS, although that is what's particularly come to a head with me..

They aren't doing there jobs half the time, they do it for fun, i've heard them over digital radio scanners.. (no i don't own one) Anyway exhaust is 84 db. They didn't do me for boost controller and i told him about the remap and he said thats ok, so in there eyes on those respects my car was ok and i wouldn't have to worry about arguing them so it doesn't matter whether it's legal or not.

Anyway a friend is coming over to help me write a letter to our local electorate in eltham and submit it to the papers, hopefully to get it posted, if it's written well enough it won't be ignored, it's too controversial an issue (P-Platers in general are a controversial issue).. I was hoping someone had already tried these steps and was organizing a court case or a march or something... Evidently not

Also if anyone is looking for an R32 GTS-T i'll probably be looking to sell mine, asking about 11.5k, PM me.

Well come on you gotta admit it's retarded that they didn't get me for the 3 things that you'd think you'd get on an imported car.. i mean wtf, 1 of my 3 number plate lights was out (debateable), the front tyre (fine) handbrake (lol) come on, they looked at my car for 30 mins and wrote these 3 things down? Thats just odd come to think of it

Also my 162rwkw should be ok on power/weight ratio, and I'm sure that it's not illegal to install a new turbo on all cars right? The weight on my rego says 1320 and my car is only 163kw so it's under when you look at it on paper, which is how the law would look at it.. even if you wrote it down to 1300 it's still legal..

whoa ok everybody take note... im agreeing with ash again....

for one, 25 times ina yr is nothing. last yr 25 times was pretty much weekly for me... so much that i know half the cops in the area ( theres a f**king lot ) by first name... they dont even bother asking me all the shit they have to anymore, they know i already know what i have to do...

tis what you get when you drive a car that clearly sticks out in traffic compared to some excel or something ( shut up justin excels are f**king gay end of story lol ) especially when its twice as loud as most cars on the road as well...

and if the car in your d/p is yours. a bright yellow car is obviously going to attract more attention than some other car coz besides taxi's... how many bright yellow cars do you see. lol

get over it. seriously...

and before you say is about being young harrassed ect. im 19... ive had my car for nearly 2 years. getting "harrassed" by cops isnt new to me. but i knew that when i bought the car i'd get more attention from them. so meh.

    • Oh, that's grim. Something bad has been happening there.
    • Put an endoscope down the hole and saw this. Not quite all around the bore but a good 60% at least. Chin to the chest and towards further disappointments I guess.
    • 2 does "sort of" applies, maybe......but looking at what parts would be needed for the swap to get engineered, registered, and insured, and basically that's everything under the car, the modifications the make it legal would be problematic and horrendously expensive, all for a street car that just cruises around and hits a few twisty roads on the weekends Also, from looking at the NSW rules and Regs, with all modifications that is required just to make the car safe and not twist itself to pieces, and then actually get registered for street use, may still be impossible nowadays As for 1, when you add in a fresh engine, fresh transmission, rear cradle and diff, tailshaft, suspension, brakes, cooling, and all the other fabrication required, your probably looking at up to $100k to do it right, all for a 20 year old MX5 that is over engineered and you would never be able to actually use the power it has on the street, much like your beastie, which I love, but you actually track that thing and can use all of its powers in anger, in a safe environment  Hell, the old Bogan Cruise Ship had more power than I could use on the street, and in hindsight, I went a bit silly on that thing, it didn't really need the 500hp it had for what I actually used the car for, it was fun, but basically unusable on the street if you value your licence  As for cams, yeah, I'll probably book it in for them to get installed and tuned soonish, like next month after MX5 Mania are back at work....... and yes, I've already sent a email to bin the turbo quote and quote instead to install cams and a new Fluidampr balancer that will suit the 2.5 better than the OEM 2.0 balancer that is swapped over for the 2.5 install, as the balancer needs to get pulled to time the cams it's a while your in there sort of thing I did think a bit about flex fuel for a laugh, but being na, and no where really around locally anymore to get E85, I've binned that idea, so no sweet sweet corn smells are set for the car I wish E85 was more of a standard fuel, it's better for the environment, better for tuning, plus that sweet sweet smell we all love As for fitting in the family, that's not needed, as everyone in the family already owns a car that can seat 5 humans comfortably enough, the MX5 is "my toy" As for buying a car that is already built, nah, I would rather pick and choose my parts, I enjoy the process, and in the big picture, the additional cost is well worth the enjoyment, and the occasional frustration, I get out of doing it, albeit with other people spinning the spanners, and me, just paying the invoice 🤣
    • Excuse me, but 2) does apply 1) Would also apply if you consider how much is spent in the alternatives. Also there's the option of 3), buy one pre-built that you can put your family in (it's me, it's my car)   That said, I went on a ~500km drive the other day. I didn't use anything more adventurous than 3rd/4th gear at about ~3000RPM and 50% throttle and I was going as fast as anyone has any sense doing on a public road, with enough grip to the point where I didn't want to go any faster. I was obviously under the limit of the current car etc etc. MX5 with 2.5 N/A to achieve the same speed would be more fun for any road scenario. Maybe consider cams. I wouldn't boost it. The use case is just not there and it won't actually make the car more enjoyable unless you really do plan on wringing gears from 1st to 3rd (at least) at 100% WOT on a public road to 150+kmh.
    • Great if: 1. You had all of the money for everything else that is required  2. Lived in a country where you could actually do this and drive it legally on the road Sadly, neither applies to me As for the turbo, I am having second thoughts, mainly for engineering/registration legality reasons and insurance  Not saying I've finished doing stupid things that I probably should do to the MX5, but boost, and V8 engine swaps isn't on the cards Strange, but true
