Hey everyone

I was reading HPI magazine and came accross a japanese auction site where you can buy all sorts of jap

cars such as gtst's gtr's ect ect...

So i went to their web site www.isicar.com. Afte looking at all of their cars on

auction for low prices i discovered that there arn't any extra fees to ship the car out of japan but didn't

mention any cost involved in the car arriving in melbourne. Firstly what is and who are RAWS holders????

Does anyone know the fees involved in bringing a car into melbourne and is there still such thing as getting

an Australian Complience for the car that's imported?

Also what has to be done to the car if it is modofied so that i can drive it on the road (here in OZ land)???

Cheers ROB

The process has been described several times in this forum.

Read this link about importing cars into Australia:

http://www.dotars.gov.au/transport/safety/.../importing.aspx

A RAWS is a workshop who can comply your car. This basically entails making modifications to ensure it complies with Australian safety standards. Each RAWS can comply specific models of cars. You need to search for one who can comply the car you are looking for:

http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RAWPubSearch.asp

Once the car lands in Australia, you need to arrange a Customs broker to complete Customs /Quarantine inspections, and to pay the required GST and Duties applicable for imported cars.

The car then goes to a RAWS, who carry out the compliance work. Following that, you can register the car.

J-Spec has a page which describes the whole process too:
