GTR-Ben
I guess people have different meaning for "blueprinting" to me it means removing any ruff surfaces etc.. Spoolup
It involves all of the above. Deburring to minimise stress points, checking all clearences throughout the engine, calculating final compression ratios , balancing rotating mass etc. All of this and much more is involved Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/85/#findComment-1129621 Share on other sites
Alf
Spool up is correct. Blueprinting is simply machining it exactly to spec - or as close as possible, rather than accepting a part that is "near enough" because it falls into the tolerance band. Cubes
wow.. what comp ratio are you going for. With those pistons you will be around at least 7:1. dnb
yes they are smallblock rods modified. the pistons are wiseco off the shelf items and they say you get between 8.2 and 8.5 c/r i have set the deck height to zero Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/85/#findComment-1130072 Share on other sites
Cubes
Give us the part number of the pistons, rod length and bore. I will work out the approx comp ratio. I am 99% sure you will not have a 8.2-8.3:1 comp ratio. The only pistons Wiseco sell off the shelf that have a dish are the RB30DET pistons. They give a 7:1 comp ratio. All the others have a 14cc dome. Obviously you will have a little more comp ratio if you have a zero deck height. BUT that will depend on the rods and how much you can deck the block if it is indeed possible to get the zero deck clearance you are after when combined with the compression height of your pistons. dnb
well i was told that! mine are the m865 ones hmm, i may have to lower the deck height as far as i can. i have tomei poncams aswell. ill see how much clearance i have there. how do you get the full lift with no oil pressure to test the clearance? Cubes
Tell me the specs on the rods.. Are the EXACTLY the same size as the rb30 ones? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/85/#findComment-1131202 Share on other sites
dnb
Tell me the specs on the rods.. Are the EXACTLY the same size as the rb30 ones? well i have the same deck height as normal rods would have. ill do some precise measurements tomorrow. they are 6" chev rods Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/85/#findComment-1131342 Share on other sites
dnb
any idea on getting full valve lift with no oil pressure? i need to check the piston to valve clearance Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/85/#findComment-1131345 Share on other sites
Alf
Tell me the specs on the rods.. Are the EXACTLY the same size as the rb30 ones? I'd be interested too. DnB the rods look identical to the ones I have, SCAT modified chev rods. The SCAT rod looks to be approx 1mm longer than the stocker. Mine require a thicker rod bearing which needs to be chamfered to fit. I havent had it fitted/measured yet. dnb
check this link. i have a thread on it over on our rb friends site calaisturbo http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=30077 did you measure that with the standard chev little end bush? its bigger than the nissan one so it would measure longer if you went overall measurements rather than centres Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/85/#findComment-1131405 Share on other sites
Alf
did you measure that with the standard chev little end bush? its bigger than the nissan one so it would measure longer if you went overall measurements rather than centres NO, the rods had bushes fitted to handle 1000hp plus for an rb30 when I bought them. I bought the rods through a mates contacts, he works at Gold Coast Porsche. I put the scat rod against the stock rod and compared it by eye. dnb
well the rods are good for around 1000 hp or so in v8 form so thats 750hp in 6 cyl form. Cubes
No idea. I had the same thought when my engine builder checked the clearances. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/85/#findComment-1132642 Share on other sites
ace_nz
use a bunch of feeler strips to take up the preload in the lifter then rotate the enginel, or make up a solid lifter, just machine up a solid center to go in the bucket. RB30-POWER
Just a couple of quick questions, Does the RB25DET oil cooler bolt straight to the RB30 block, or is it different somehow, maybe the filter bypass valve is different or something? I haven't removed it yet for actual inspection myself, but im sure someone would know? Also what is this extra drain for, i assume oil? Should i extend the line and plumb it into the sump? Because I have seen a few conversions where this line has just been crimped shut, therfore no drain, is it critical. Once again I havent removed it yet for actual inspection. Cheers for any help Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/85/#findComment-1136213 Share on other sites
