Cubes
low747, The OS 3ltr kit does use the stock tensioner and idler locations BUT they also use a custom belt. We only have available what gates and a few other brands offer. None of which meet the length requirement we need to use the stock setup. gtst25
Hi Cubes Just downloaded the updated version. Must say it's excellent - your engine looks great - what turbo set-up do you reckon you will end up running? Cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/99/#findComment-1263014 Share on other sites
Cubes
gts25. I'm going to be running a GT35R .82. If I find it spools a little slow I will sacrifice a bit of top end and step down to the .62. Comparing turbine graphs, the .62 GT35R flows the same, if not slightly more than the .82 GT30R. It should work fairly well. I'd imagine the biggest problem will be needing decent sized tyres to get it to the ground. RB30DET pdf updated again. Cleaned up a couple of little bits and changed the section titles so they are easily identified when scrolling. StockyMcStock
from what i have heard, be prepared for the .82 housing to be a bit of a light-switch power hit. from hearing people talk about it, the 1.06 is much better suited for the 30DET, but again i have no personal experience here. Alf
Joel: Somewhere in the past pages you mentioned drilling the 30's oil galleries. Can you remember what size and were all the oil galleries drilled to the same size? MonstaS4
from what i have heard, be prepared for the .82 housing to be a bit of a light-switch power hit. from hearing people talk about it, the 1.06 is much better suited for the 30DET, but again i have no personal experience here. I'm running a 0.82 GT30 and it is by no means a light switch, so a GT35 0.82 would be far from it. Although, I am only running 8psi atm. The Haltech has boost correction dependant on the gear selected, so i plan to use this to soften the power delivery in 1st gear once boost is wound up. Cubes
Alf, Its in the RB30 guide under the Short Motor section. Its not the oil galleries, the rb's have 2 oil restrictors in the block. One towards the front and one towards the rear. However, I have been told by two people (RIPS & SK) to leave the 30's oil restrictors the way they are. However... My engine builder and I decided it would be best to match the size of the restrictors to the size of the rb20's. RB30 - 1.8mm vs RB20's 2.4mm. Our decision was based on RB20 & 25's generally not having the same issue as the RB26 where oil is dumped in to the head and is unable to return quick enough. His view was the rb26's run a higher flowing oil pump, solid followers and rev much harder. The RB25/30 runs a rb25det oil pump, hydraulic followers and rev's lower. I think the RB25 head and or the rb30 block must drain oil from the head better than my old RB20, I can literally pour a bottle in upside down and the rocker cover won't fill up. The RB20's was fairly easy to fill up and overflow. Maybe my engine builder cleaned up the oil return to flow a little easier just incase. RIPS did say the smaller oil restrictors helps to control blow by and prevents the can filling up as quick. I am yet to find out. @irborne
anyone willing to help me in shipping a good condition RB30E shortblock to USA? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15420-r33-rb30-conversion/page/99/#findComment-1288628 Share on other sites
Cubes
I think you will find it hard to find some one as the block would have to be stripped down, inspected, crank & block crack tested. Which all costs $$. Customs isn't a problem providing the block is clean and free from oil. Cubes
Are you doing a before and after compare? XR6 Turbo? Should be interesting. I'll have a result of the RB30DET running the stock RB20DET setup (turbo, injectors @ stock 11psi boost) on Tuesday. I'm guessing at least 160rwkw.
