What do you want to know about them?

Ok, on their website;

Here

theyhave different sizes, materials (steel or aluminium), outer diametre ect ect...

To chase a high horsepower application (1,000) which one would best be suited.

Would a larger outer diametre with 3 ring setup help reduce harmonics as there is more weight to counteract?

I can get them for about $950.

My Gts4 came with, hks turbo, power fc, aftermarket fuel pump, 3" kakimoto exhaust, hks plugs, hks filter and 4 balled tyres so i guess it was setup for thrash ;), perhaps thats why it has a gtr box! Clutch was Gtr when i took it out too , do the gts4's have an lsd, when i do a sharp turn at about 5kph up a hill sounds like i have a locked diff, sounds like one of the rear wheels is moving faster then the other???

Not the cv's, drive shafts or diff as they are the same as GTR's and very rarely do you have problems with them. Even at that power, you will have to be a nice guy to your gearbox, depedning on its condition and the life its led, always be gentle on 3rd once you have over 300rwkw!!!

i found another RB30 conversion thread on gtr register.

good to see the popularity of the conversion.

of particular note is post number 3 & 47 bagging the "aussie" supplied sump adapter plate. i hope it is not someone from here.

here

No its no one from here, its not really bagging just stating he'd like to know who supplied him the adaptor plate, I'm assuming the problem is the same as what I've heard, holes didn't line up perfectly, and it must be perfect when dealing with countersunk bolts.

RIPS did the first 4wd rb30det that I know of over in NZ, he's been around for a long time playing with these things.

He was the one to tell me the std rb30 oil restrictors are borderline but ok.

A quick question re injectors

I have nismo 740cc injectors in my s15 greedy plenum.

Would these also suit the GTR head? (R32 or 33)

pretty sure s15's are side feed, rb26's are top feed!

unless for some funny reason greedy changed there stuff to suit top feed as well as ive seen some aftermarket setups.

but yes generally SR, r33 RB25 = side feeds, RB20,26 = top feeds.

tho if you can get 6x side feed s15 inj's they flow more fuel than the stock r33 items.

Not Autos and not Australian delivered S15's, only the JDM manual has higher than 370 cc's

:D cheers :D

Hello .................... over here ............... RB30DET in R32GTR, started in 1999 finished in 2000

Shall I show you the first post on SDU, where I told RIPs the principles?

He can probably lay claim to the first R32GTS4 with RB30, no argument there.

In 1995 we also did a very early (not the first, but close to it) RB30 "D" ET, using an RB20DET cylinder head.

I need to check the exact numbers but I think we are up to ~10 X RB30's with 4wd.

The quality of the supplied adaptor plates (the race team fabricator doesn't have time to make them any more) has been steadily improving with our input. So what was a minor irritation 12 months ago, no longer exists.

:) cheers :D

heheh opps. :)

I now know differently.

Guys;

Just wondering how RB30s are treating hard driven (not abused) GTR and RB25 gboxes. I did a search on 'gearbox' here and got some threads from 2003 but that was it; found references to 320 rwkw being well wthin the capacity of the RB25 box, and the GTR box running happily with 650 hp (fly I assume) but not much on torque capability.

I'd hate to have to detune an RB30 so that the gearbox will live and I don't want to shell $5k for a gearset.

Cheers

    • For anyone interested, the Way Back Machine has that Japanese website archived with pictures, etc: https://web.archive.org/web/20051023225805fw_/http://www.a31cefiro.com/air_con.htm "Simply swapping the wiring of the harness will not allow it to function properly. For the outdoor air sensor and sunlight sensor, disconnect the wiring connected to CN1-11 of the air conditioning harness from the harness and connect the sensor side wiring to earth. For the indoor air sensor, disconnect the wiring connected to CN2-3 of the air conditioning harness from the harness and connect the sensor side wiring to earth. The connector PIN numbers listed here are the genuine A31 PIN numbers. To avoid incorrect wiring, check with a tester before wiring. Also, disconnect the wiring in a location close to the sensor. The disconnected harness side wiring will not be used, so be sure to insulate it." Wish someone sold a conversion harness to just plug-and-play a Kouki 180sx digital climate control into C33/A31. I'm decent with wiring but feeling kinda lazy about taking this on.

    • Well, yeah, the RB26 is definitely that far off the mark. From a pure technology point of view it is closer to the engines of the 60s than it is to the engines of the last 10 years. There is absolutely nothing special about an RB26 that wasn't present in engines going all the way back to the 60s, except probably the four valve head. The bottom end is just bog standard Japanese stuff. The head is nothing special. Celicas in the 70s were the same thing, in 4cyl 2 valve form. The ITBs are nothing special when you consider that the same Celicas had twin Solexes on them, and so had throttle plates in the exact same place. There's no variable valve timing, no variable inlet manifold, which even other RBs had either before the 26 came out or shortly afterward. The ECU is pretty rude and crude. The only things it has going for it are that the physical structure was pretty bloody tough for a mass produced engine, the twin-turbos and ITBs made for a bit of uniqueness against the competition (and even Toyota were ahead on the twin turbs thing, weren't they?) and the electronic controls and measuring devices (ie, AFMs, CAS, etc) were good enough to make it run well. Oh, and it sounds better than almost anything else, ever. The VR38 is absolutely halfway between the RB generation and the current generation, so it definitely has a massive increase in the sophistication of the electronics, allowing for a lot more dynamic optimisation of mapping. Then there's things like metal treatments and other coatings on things, adoption of variable cam stuff, and a bunch of other little improvements that mean it has to be a better thing than the RB26. But I otherwise agree with you that it is approximately the same thing as a 26. But, skip forward another 10 years from that engine and then the things that I mentioned in previous post come out to play. High compression, massively sophisticated computers, direct injection, clever measuring sensors, etc etc. They are the real difference between trying to make big power with a 26 and trying to make big power with a S/B50/54 (or whatever the preferred BMW engine of the week is).
