Hey rb30det guys, is it possible to bore out the rb25 block and use rb30 rods and pistons to make an rb30det?

It has been done.

It requires modification of the rb30 crank (destroke), rb25/26 rods and custom pistons.

All though not optimal as the rods would experience greater side load and the piston pin height is bugger all.

But it has been done and appears to work well. I believe the bloke made some where up around 400rwkw and had 8000rpm on board. I'm curious as to how well its holding together some months down the track.

The bloke who did it I believe is mark99. He's in Adelaide.

Hey guys I'm building up a rb30det, I'm ready to start bolting it together just need a head gasket and an oil pump.

What head gasket do you guys recomend, How much and where can i get it? I was looking at a Cometic 1.2 mm metal on this site on a traders forum but now i cant find it again

And whats the diferance between the GTR and GTR N1 oil pumps? Is it worth spending a little extra on the N1 pump and why? Also where can i buy one i been told $410 from this site?

We blew our rb30det  Im pretty confident the n1 oil pump has either rattled apart or the gear has cracked. Will know later in the week when its all pulled down. Its a sad sad day, hopefully its not as bad as it sounds, but she is ceased up completely so im expecting it to be almost totally screwed.

ouch, ouch, ouch... really sorry to hear that. Plus it makes me nervous...

Very interested to hear if its related to N1 breakage...

I dont know at the moment....Depends on what caused it. But either a brand name one or perhaps a dry sump setup which would be nice. Saturday was the most expensive day of racing weve had so far haha.

How many k's had it done?

I'm fairly nervous with my pump.

No crank collar and its clocked up some where around ~45000km's.

I went the std rb25det pump as I remember at the time my thinking was the N1 pump with its higher relief will place greater pressure on the small crank drive.

Just pure bad luck R33_racer.. :D

Are you running an ATI balancer?

yup...but our car gets thrashed more then a street car would....all day at the track its at or near the max. Yeh we are actually, thats where im lost. I made sure we took almost every precaution available to make sure this wouldnt happen. Collar, everything balanced and ati damper. But we didnt loctite the backing plate bolts in or anything like that, we just bolted it up and left it assuming it was right from factory....so i think thats our mistake unless its a fault with the pump itself.

Im not 100% sure if he does. I think i remember a thread from ages ago where he said he made his own dry sump setup from second hand bits for cheap which they ran on one of the cars. not sure if it was his or another one. Would be interesting if it was on one of the rb30dets. hopefully he will come and explain it to us :D
