These Audi belts are 22mm wide, whereas the OEM nissan belt is 25mm. Would it be fair to assume it is 12% weaker than the factory nissan belt?

If you change the timing belts more frequently there would be less chance of a failure.

I used the 2000 Gates catalogue that I have, It doesn't list the above.

I received my belt a few days ago, It's says it replaces a T866.

Mine is 25mm wide, has 152 teeth, the same listed in the 2000 catalogue.

see attached pic

The information on that link seems kind of limited.

I don't trust the net when it comes to these things, I'd prefer the catalogue in book form and some good old measuring and counting of teeth. :D

Another thing i can say, that T866 is the bosch part no for the belt above to suit the 1.8L quatro 96+

I suppose if you want a price on the belt go ask for BT866 if bosch is any cheaper than dayco or easier to get in your local stores....

Bosch belts aren't sold in many auto shops(repco, supercheap, autobahn, auto one etc..) these days it's mostly Dayco.

For $37(Dayco) a timing belt for an 96 audi is pretty damn cheap .

Your right about the T numbers thats bosch, everyone uses bosch numbers as a crossreference even repco do.

BlackR32, it doesn't look like your mounts are modded? Am I missing something or did you just post pics of them bolted in the stock position?

:)

Those pics were taken a day or so before it got modded unfortunatly. The drivers side just required redirlling the holes in a higher spot, the passenger side mount was cut and re welded as far as i can remember....;)

Cool. I am doing mine this weekend. Looks simple. I am using the RB30 mounts.

Hey Guys,

Just lookin to confirm something.

When i measured the restrictor in the block for the VCT feed, i reckon its about 1.2mm.

If i drill it 1.5mm will it be supplied to much oil? Will it get flooded or leak out the cam seal, or will it just drain back to the sump any excess oil?

If i drill it 1.0mm it probally won't be big enough and may starve it of oil and may not have the capacity to operate the VCT fucntion.

What size hole did you guys drill for the restrictor?

Thanks in advance

Mick

Can you/anyone confirm if its 1.2mm approx?

Will it be a problem if its a little bit bigger anyone know?

You should double checkthe size of the VCT oil gallery in your own head, you may find that there may be small variances. That goes for everything else too double check the measurements on your engine.

Making it slightly bigger in dia shouldnt make much of a difference, the sensor relies on oil pressure not flow. It may take longer to fill the oil gallery but once it's full (ie start up) it will operate as normal.

Yes it is approx. 1.2mm. I don't know if bigger will cause problems though. Mine was drilled at 1.2mm and it works fine.

Slightly off track, but i had a play with switch-on point in the Haltech and turned VCT on at idle. You can notice a big difference in idle quality. It didn't want to idle smooth at all.

MonstaS4,

Camy lump idle with it vct on at idle?

How is the swtich on point with the RB30?

Does it appear to be a benifit to drop the rpm where VCT is turned on?

Theoretically it should as the RB30 is pushing more air at a lower rpm.

Yep, with 20 degrees extra overlap when it's switched on, i guess you could say it's a little lumpy.

Seat of pants/Stopwatch testing indicates somewhere around 4200rpm seems optimum. There dosn't appear to be big benifit to be had, but i'm still only running 5psi. 14+psi may tell a different story?

guys i bought a 2nd skyline a this time a gts to see wat kinda power i cud make , sum1 suggested to me to get a rb30 bottom end and rb25 head while i save and get a rb26 head later, what kinda power can it make with a rb30 bottom end and rb25de head?
