American in Okinawa. Previous 70s muscle car owner/driver, SCCA Porsche 911 AutoXer, now Stagea owner. Love the car. 97 RsFour. Right now the turbo isn't kicking in. Did a tune up and they told me the airbox(?) needs replaced...or the computer. Looking for a used R-33 Koki 95 up. Air box or Air flow meter. Anyone help me with what I need or a good used one?

Thanks

Mick

Ahh, if you're in Japan wouldn't it be really easy to get spare parts for a stagea there rather than from Australia?

I live in Okinawa and still have to order parts from mainland Japan. What I wanted was help with knowing what I need. You guys know your Stagea's and I'm just new to the car. Not sure if air box or air flow meter is the name of what I need. I don't speak or read Japanese, so there is another barrier being in Japan...

Air flow meter is more likely than air box. The air box is just a plastic box where the air filter lives so not sure how that could be the problem... Unless it was smashed to bits.

Sounds like you have a few challenges there.

Cheers

Luke

It's very probably the AFM, could also be that it needs a clean, might be choked up with Jap soot.

Sounds like you better get a japanese girlfriend quick, she can translate for you, (amongst other things)! :woot:

O genki desu ka StageaNaWasan...

If you are cleaning the AFM then only use a pressurised spray can.

Avoid the temptation to wipe it with a rag...you know you want to!

Use an electrical parts cleaner or brake linings cleaner - something that drys clean and leaves no residue. Just a few second spray is all that is needed and you dont even need to remove the AFM from the car to do it.

P.S What do you actually mean by ' the turbo isnt kicking in'? Maybe the wastegate is stuck open, maybe you have a sock up the plenum. (lol)

Could possibly have a chocked up CAT - a restriction in the intake and/or the exhaust will both stop the turbo from working.

If you have gone to the effort of pulling the AFM out then take off the intake pipe that leads to the compressor side of the turbo and give the turbine a spin with you fingers (gently now). Try to see how much sideways slop it has on the bearing - if it touches the housing or it feels notching as you turn it, then you've got bigger problems.
