Hey all,

A member of SAU sent me some photos of a GTT with a rather unique paint job mod on its front bar, making the grille look larger than it actually is (no more slope). I sent these photos to Mitch and we decided it'd be worth doing :D

Items Needed:

1 x Can of Satin Black Spray Paint (from SuperCheap Auto $2.99)

1 x Series of Sand Paper (lying around)

1 x Old Painting Sheet

1 x Roll of Masking Tape

Process:

Mask up your area to be painted with the tape and then proceed to cover up all surrounding areas with a combination of masking tape and the sheet. We tore a hole in the sheet to provide a better painting area and coverage (please note you can susbtitute the sheet with newspaper)

Sand the clear coat of your original paint back so you get a nice smooth matte finish... This will provide a "rough" surface for the paint to adhere to. Remember to look at the area from various angles just in case you missed a spot. Clean the area up from paint dust and crap with some Wax & Grease remover.

Shake can of paint up for 5 minutes (vigorously, none of this girly shit)

Using sideways strokes, apply the paint one layer at a time... it does not matter if you first coat leaves it looking very cloudy, the other coats will cover it up later. Allow to dry for 10minutes and repeat until you are satisfied with the finish.

Note that the satin black paint will apply with a "gloss" but will go matte when it drys...

END RESULT:

A before shot for comparison (dont mind the eye-lids :))

Comments? I think it looks very nice... doesn't cost much to do and gives the entire front end another perspective!

LOL awesome!!!! You don't waste any time do ya!????? Exactly how I was gonna do it, just wanted you to be the guinea pig first ! :) Hope you're happy with it! Will give it a go when I get the chance.

Do you have any pics of how you masked all the surrounding areas??

Such a subtle change, but a noticable one!

I've got the nissan sports aero frontbar, I'm thinking of painting the "skyline" in silver. Anybody tried this?

yeah i got the aero kit as well and been thinkin of painting the "skyline as well".. not sure what colour but... maybe black haahaahahahahaha.. juz kiddin.. has anyone done this b4? an if u have has the paint come off after a while?

I used brake caliper paint on my previous R33 to paint the "skyline" letters on the rear garnish the same colour red as my brakes. Turned out schmick & didn't crack or fade one bit.

I'm gonna try painting the "skyline" on the front bar on my day off next week. I'll either use the silver I've got lying around already, or white. If it turns out shite I can always paint it black again
