Its a shame because all the tasty VN Group As were converted to VPs...i dont even think the HRT VN Gp A car that finished 2nd at Bathurst in 91 survived. It would be a cool car to have. I know the HRT VL is kicking around, i recall it did very well at Eastern Creek last year agaisnt the R31s etc.

Thats a good point about the VN's. Do you know what happened to the 2nd Gibson GT-R?

Brock ran a 3A car at Bathurst 92 and i understand by the time 93 rolled around they had a new car. The Brock '92 Bathurst car that dropped its tailshaft on the line was the car that Crompton took over for Rd 1 at Amaroo Park in 93 (From memory..i actually have the race on vid...ill look tonight). It was a cracker of a race meet, Mezera bashing thru the midfield, Gardner coming home strong. The PJ Ford vs Shell Falcons up front whilst Morris and Longhurst were running around in the M3s.

Hardly a car finished with its fron spoiler. LOL...i think it was Jim Richards that cleaned up the back of Brock...all caught on race cam.

Speaking of tailshafts, which year at Bathurst did the tail shaft of Brocks car join John Cleland in the cockpit? I remember him saying words to the effect of "what the f*ck?" over the racecam & then him shielding his eyes from the lumps of shrapnel flying about as the thing slowly beat itself to death on the way down Conrod.

The best story about Cleland was from Bathurst a couple of years ago. His co-driver over hydrated himself before his stint. Not being able to get out & go for a road side p!ss meant he had to relieve himself in his race seat. Not much fun for Cleland when he got in. Even less fun when he had to change back into his wet racesuit a couple of hours later (BJR were to tight to buy two suits for him) & so he wound Kim Jones up nicely telling him he wasn't going out to drive in a piss stained suit.

The early VP's had very ordinary front spoilers. They kept flying off at the first contact or minor offroad excursion. They got it fixed half way through the '93 season (plus they also got a proper undertray) which then gave rise to endless homologation squabbles about front downforce that just wouldn't go away.

Just as an aside the prototype car that Dickie Johnson had built for the V8 regs (& never ran) ended up over here in WA. It was converted to an EL & used as a display car for a number of years. It is still running in the red & yellow colours.

Second Gibson GTR. I think there was 3 of them. Skaife rolled one...Linsday Fox has one down here...and Ashwood has one in Sydney.

I think the rolled Skaife car was repaired. I would have to read back through some stuff i have floating around

Skaife had one turn turtle at the AGP in 1990. I have never seen a picture of it so if anyone has one could they please post it?

There were 5 Gibson GT-R's

Gotta get the brain working....

#1was the car that went to Asia

#2- Skaifey crashed it (he crashed a few Gibbo cars)

#3- in the fox collection

#4- GIO car

#5- Terry Ashwood owns it

Not 100 % about 1&2 could be the other way around.

I did the history for Fox's car a couple of years ago, you can read it if you visit the museum.

What a magnificent car - even to this day. I find that with the plethora of V8 Supertaxis, I yearn more and more for the different manufacturers of the Group A days.

Nissan and Gibson Motorsport really nailed it with this car, didn't they?

It was awesome seeing the old GIO car again in the pic earlier this thread. Does anyone have any more pics of it?

The Vic R31 wont be making it. He still hasnt finished of the final touches and he is in the middle of another rebuild. It looks too mint to race anyway :)

LOL..if i owned it i would build a replica and race/bend that :)

That sucks ! Would have loved to see 3 HR31's screaming around.

Terry & Rod's 31's are good to go, so we'll see anyone who's going there :)

Yeah, they were the days when you used to watch a race and see genuinely new and exciting cars, and then actually see something very much like it on the road the weekend after. Now....... its a bit of a yawn until something goes wrong :)

well our car (spencers alfa) will be down at PI. I was all booked and set to go, but sadly have some important sh1t on at work and wont be there :) so have fun without me guys. and be sure to cheer on our little alfa that could.

Yeh but the racing sucked...you would watch a race for one or two overtaking moves. The cars were cool though.

I need 49,000 pound so i can buy an Eggenberger Sierra thats for sale. The seller has 3 for gods sake, you think he would swap one of them for my R32 :)
