Marlin: Nah, I didn't see it mate, what happened?

I can't get the photos off my stupid NOKIA N70 "world's most unreliable phone" to show you sorry.

The ex Win Percy VL Walky looks like it broke and axle (from around 3rd on grid) and was moving very slowly away when it was nearly hit by 2 cars from the rear, and got absolutely clobbered by an LJ from around 25th position. There was a huge speed difference and the LJ would be unrepairable, the VL was also extremely bent. Lady driving LJ went to hospital but realeased that night I believe.

man the start line accidents are scary. nothing worse than stalling or breaking something off the line. i've seen it happen plenty of times when we were running in state champs. especially in categories like prod sports, and IP etc cars from the back have some big speed on by the time they get to the front few rows of the grid...

why?

that's a shame. sorry you missed spencer on the sunday. that would have been chris looking after the car probably. damn shame you missed the second race too as 42nd to 7th aint too shabby in 5 laps of PI! We need to get our shit together and mount up the in-car camera.

Yeah he was never with the car when I was in the area. Wanted to find out how he went since I missed all the races.Spence was probably following the chain saw motored magarita machine around the pits all day :nyaanyaa: I'll let him explain that one to you :nyaanyaa: YES !! In car camera for Spencer is a must !!!

As for the other subject, it seems that the organisers want to move the touring cars into the Sandown Muscle Car event instead of running them with the historic's since the organisers had to knock back a reasonable number of historics from this event because the number's were too high  This is yet to be confirmed though.

that would suck. Group A and C are big draw cards. no one wants to watch old farts in their lotus cortinas putting around all day! we want old farts putting around in their group A touring cars to break things up a bit! hehe.

Agreed mate!

That Alfa was one of my favourite cars from the event, I took many a shot of it! Love the prep work in the engine bay, everything was immaculate, and the trumpets looked horn! Sounded awesome too. We had a bit of a chat with the owner and driver (I'm guessing), nice guys. They were pretty unlucky to melt such a small part to put them out of the race...

Marlin: Geez, didn't even know about that! What day did this happen?? '

There were a few times when cars stalled/broke something off the line and nearly got collected, heart in mouth experiences for sure!

Looking at the results has me thinking. Is Paul Stubber that great a driver compared to some of the others...or is that A9X just flat out quick? Its the same car Brock was in last year, isnt it?

Oh and Count, Spencer is only 8 seconds off the Grp A cars. I say only, its a long way off. But looking at the cars! 1:56 is very impressive from the little Alfa. I was hoping the Grp A/C cars would be a little quicker

glad you liked it! some of the stuff in that engine bay is my handi work! :nyaanyaa:

owner and driver is the same guy, spencer. the other guy is chris who works for spencer now at the new shop. and if you think it sounds nuts, you should feel what it's like to drive. I nearly wet my pants the first time I drove it and it came on cam. it's lovely noise.

yeah, it's depressing, spencer is a far, far better steerer than me. or maybe I am too kind too the car? I know he spanks the sh1t out of it, but I am a bit kinder not wanting to lunch an engine he paid for and all... hmmm food for thought.

he is easily quick enough to run in the over 3 litre class in the top 10 all the time now. and that means plenty of XU1s, and GT falcons etc in the rear view mirror.

how about the F5000s and the atlantics? they don't hang around do they!?

lol !! Stubber "is" a very good driver ! There's no argument there, but that particular A9X has an A4 page long list of modifications that are not allowed under the category rules. There are issues with lodging a protest including a $500 per protest lodgement fee and a "1 issue per protest lodgement rule" that make it kinda hard for things to get resolved unless you're willing to throw heaps of money away. Hopefully that A9X will be returned to it's proper state to keep the racing honest. THEN, we'll see how good Stubber can drive :D Until that time, Stubber get's his glory the dirty way.

Many that "Candy" Tyrell (sp) was one of the best cars on the day ( imo ). It was in the pits near us so we got to talk to the guys about it. 3L N/A V8 Cosworth that changes gears at 10,600rpm !

God, there were so many horny machines there I didn't know where to look. How about the Ford GT40 & Porshe GT1........ or the Porsche 917 ( BTW the 917 makes around 900hp and weighs just over 600kg. ) Instant chubby :D

I wanted to have a chat with you about your 13B datto thebuzz !

Oh well, maybe next year...... and then again, maybe not since we've heard that our group might not be involved in this particular event in the future

Sorry mate, I did spend a bit of time near the cars watching the DVD you guys had playing, the cars looked great.

Yeh but the racing sucked...you would watch a race for one or two overtaking moves. The cars were cool though.

I need 49,000 pound so i can buy an Eggenberger Sierra thats for sale. The seller has 3 for gods sake, you think he would swap one of them for my R32

oohhhh farrkkkk, now i gotta go and change my pants

totally off topic - but listen to video at 33 seconds - is this MARK NICHOLSON who is the pommy bloke on the channel 9 cricket commentary team at the moment?

No, not sure of the fella's name but he was the commentator for the Group A world touring car championship rounds in Europe.

    • Don't they cool down technically when you're sitting at a set of lights?
    • The circuit if not a resistor divider is using an opamp to deliver a specific current normally. By maintaining the current as resistance changes, the voltage does too. Add to that, thermistors are normally non linear too, which can make creating a function impossible. Most uses of a thermistor people will utilise a lookup table to get the corresponding temperature.
    • On a scale of 1 to 10, how shit are the RE003's? (10 being ultra mega shit) Was hoping they'd be alright for a non-daily driven R32 that might get driven to Charnwood Macca's in the dry once a month, and maybe the odd hoon up and down the hills that pass for mountains in sunny Canberra.  Bob Jane currently running a "Buy 4 Get 1 Free" deal on RE003s and my brain can't comprehend anything else being value for money
    • Yeah, they look good. I should try to fit them on mine. But being a GTSt, the guard shape probably doesn't suit properly.
    • Nah, it's not a simple voltage divider. I'm not enough of an electronics guru to know how they make these circuits work. If I had a better idea of how the ECU's temperature measuring is done, I could then actually do as you want, which is turn that resistance chart into a voltage chart. But my approach has not worked. What I did was interpolate the sensor ohms values for the temperatures you listed, as you did not have any of them on a temperature ending in zero or 5. These are: °C ECU V sensor ohms (interpolated) 58 2.68 11.85 57 2.7 11.89 56 2.74 11.93 54 2.8 12.01 49 3.06 12.208 47 3.18 12.284 43 3.37 12.42 I then assumed 5V supply to the resister and calculated the voltage drop across the sensor for each of those, which is just 5 - the above voltages, and then calculated the current that must be flowing through the sensor. So you get:             Values in sensor °C ECU V sensor ohms (interpolated) Supply volts Volt drop Current 58 2.68 11.85     5 2.32 0.195781 57 2.7 11.89     5 2.3 0.19344 56 2.74 11.93     5 2.26 0.189438 54 2.8 12.01     5 2.2 0.183181 49 3.06 12.208     5 1.94 0.158912 47 3.18 12.284     5 1.82 0.14816 43 3.37 12.42     5 1.63 0.13124 And then use that current and the ECU's sensed voltage (which must be the voltage drop across the in ECU resister is there is one) to calculate the resistance of that in ECU resistor. You get:             Values in sensor   Other resistor °C ECU V sensor ohms (interpolated) Supply volts Volt drop Current   Volt Drop Resistance 58 2.68 11.85     5 2.32 0.195781   2.68 13.68879 57 2.7 11.89     5 2.3 0.19344   2.7 13.95783 56 2.74 11.93     5 2.26 0.189438   2.74 14.46381 54 2.8 12.01     5 2.2 0.183181   2.8 15.28545 49 3.06 12.208     5 1.94 0.158912   3.06 19.25592 47 3.18 12.284     5 1.82 0.14816   3.18 21.46325 43 3.37 12.42     5 1.63 0.13124   3.37 25.67816 And that's where it falls apart, because the resulting resistance would need to be the same for all of those temperatures, and it is not. So clearly the physical model is not correct. Anyway, you or someone else can use that information to go forward if someone has a better physical model. I can also show you how to interpolate for temperatures between those in the resistance chart. It's not fun because you've got to either do it like I did it for every 5°C range separately, or check to see if the slope remains constant over a wide range, then you can just work up a single formula. I'm just showing how to do it for a single 5° span. For the 58°C temperature, resistance = 11.77+2*(11.97-11.77)/5 The calc is a little arse backwards because the resistance is NTC (negative temperature coefficient), so the slope is negative, but I'm lazy, so I just treated 58 as if it was 2 degrees away from 60, not 3 degrees away from 55, and so on.
