I have tomorrow off from work because I have a doctors appointment late in the day, so it gives me some time to go get some quotes throughout the morning. I'm also going to go back to the car wash tomorrow, and show them the quotes I have found, just so they know that I will be making them pay.

If they have admitted liability, then they don't get to choose the repairer.

That would be a nice little scam, drive in, they damage your car, "oh woops, you'd better take that to my panel beating shop to get it fixed." :thumbsup:

A few weeks ago I needed to park in the city.

I drove into a car park, and they asked me for the keys..... they wanted to park it themselves.

Umm..... I don't think so!

I went and parked elsewhere. (...and I only drive a shitter)

Be very selective about who you allow to drive your car.

....as for everyone complaining about the brushes, this has been covered fairly extensively, many people say they cause damage, yet nobody has been able to show any damage actually caused to their vehicles (or anyone elses) from using the brushes.

It's all a matter of "I heard" and "my mate said".

Rinse the car before you scrub it, and rinse the brush before you use it, and you'll be fine.

There was an incident at the carwash next to where I used to work that scared me away from the automatic carwashes with the brushes that swirl around your car while you drive through it.

Some absouloute (for lack of a better word) Dingbat tied ball bearings into the spongey bristles.

You can imagine what happened.

1st 2 hours of owning my first skyline, it was delivered to my house off the truck and was filthy as... about 30 minutes i took it for a drive down to the local car wash.... rinsed the car and the brush then checked the paint over... wasnt too bad... gave it a wash and then noticed LARGE and deep scratches in the roof... must have been a stone lodged in the brush somewhere where, possibly up near the plastic bit.

Seeing as it was on the roof i never bothered fixing it... gave it a polish and it looked better but was still visible.

A mate of mine is a panel beater and suggests not using the carlovers style self washes.

He reckons the hand brush thingo's scratch your paint.

Best to use a high density sponge as they old less grit.

You gotta watch some high-pressure washers too. I washed my first car at Caltex in Werribee and noticed a dull spot on the rear pillar. So I hit it again with the pressure washer there and then I realised that I was blasting off the clear coat! haha.

inark, you must have been awol while the "great carwash debate" was raging.

This makes me wonder, when people wash their cars at home, do they do it without checking the sponge they're using?

It could have collected anything from being in the shed, or it could have collected sticks, pebbles or broken glass from being flung on the ground/falling out of the bucket.

I will continue to maintain that the brushes do not cause damage (because it seems even you are willing to concede that the issue wasn't actually the brush, but user error due to not checking the brush properly prior to use).

....but anyway, we've gone a bit OT :laugh:

If people don't want to use the brush, then don't use it, but PLEASE learn to think for yourselves, and stop basing opinions on "my mate said".

If you're paranoid, there is always the laser wash.

Nobody person or brush needs to touch your car.

I'll never use one of those dirty brush's. I'm from Knox and MANY times I've witnessed user's with 4WD's scrubbing buckets of mud from the underside of their car's. Checked the broom afterwards and yeah, it was FULL of stones.

I'm lucky that the car was has no "No bucket and sponge" policy (what a crock anyway - you still spend the same amount)

I take my own car wash, a bucket and a sponge. $1 will fill the bucket and wash down the car then another coupe of $'s to finish off.

It's just all about not being lazy :laugh:

i used to do it that way too until the owner told me off and pointed to the sign... to which my reply was "theres a water crisis and i still use the same amount of cash"

LoL This is so true.. if you wash your own car then you wouldn't need to blame someone else for screwing yours up.. Seeing these stage 3 water restrictions are in place now these places get chockers so its hard to go there with a bucket and a sponge unless you wana get into an argument with a bush pig driving a muddy 4WD telling you to hurry the f*k up LOL

Bucket n sponge, pay $2 for water and call it a day... You take more pride in your car when you wash it yourself...

Haha yep, I use the broom :laugh: I do give the car a polish and full wax with meguiars products every 3 months... I have microfibre cloths, etc. too.

It's the original paint, still looks fine to me. The wax protects the under layers and holds the shine from hand polishing.

Never use the brush man ...

I approached the owner of a Car Wash place near my area and asked whether I could use a Bucket and Sponge and surprisingly they said ok.

Carlovers on Burwood Hwy near Blackburn Rd doesnt seem to mind Sponge/Bucket either but its a bit to far from my place.

Do Luck: If you take them to Small Claims they will never win. So make sure you choose the Panel Beater. It only costs $25 (unless it has changed in the last 2-3 years) to register a Small Claims case. They also tend to always favor the consumer as well.

I never ask em i just do it lol providing its not busy i dont really want people to start bitching n moaning about having to wait....

    • I know this one’s the BB one. My tuner did make mention about the actuator. I am curious about the VCT as well
    • Might also needs a stronger actuator with the right preloading. With older 2019 built bush G3 units, BB upgrade or 21U housing down size makes a pretty decent gain in response as well. 
    • Hey lads  so im finally putting together my rb30 forged bottom end and ran into an issue. I measured my main bearing clearance with arp main studs torqued to 60 ft-lbs using ACL H series STD size bearings and standard, un-ground crank shaft journals and got an oil clearance reading of about 1.3 thou measuring straight up and down and about 2.8 thou measuring at a 45 degree angle (just above and below the parting line). My machine shop said they measured the main tunnel and it was all within spec (they didnt say the actual measurement) and to go with a standard size bearing, which i have done and the clearance is too tight, I'm guessing because of the extra clamping force from the arp studs distorting the main tunnel. I was wanting to run about 2.5 thou main bearing clearance.  My questions are: 1. could i just use the HX extra 1 thou clearance ACL bearings? that would fix my straight up and down clearance making it about 2.3 thou, but then would the side to side clearance be too big at around 3.8 thou? 2. what actually is the recommended main bearing clearance for measuring near the parting line / side to side. i know its supposed to be bigger as the bearing has some eccentricity built into it but how much more clearance should there be compared to the straight up and down measurement? at the moment there is about 1.5thou difference, is that acceptable or should it be less? 3. If i took the engine block + girdle back to the machine shop and got them to line bore the main tunnel (like i told them to do the first time, but they said it didnt need it) what bearing size would i buy? the STD size bearing shells already slide in fairly easily with no real resistance, some even falling out if i tip the girdle up-side-down. If im taking material out of the main tunnel would i need a bearing with extra material on the back side to make up for it? this is probably confusing af to read so if something doesn't make sense let me know and ill try explaining in a different way. My machine shop doesn't come back from christmas break until mid January, hence why i'm asking these questions here. TIA for any help or info 
    • I bought the model back in Japan in Feb. I realised I could never build it, looked around for people who could build it, turns out there's some very skilled people out there that will make copies of 1:1 cars or near enough. I'm not really a photo guy... but people were dragging me in a group chat for the choice of bumper as someone else saw the car before it was finished as they are also a customer of that shop. I took the photo in the above post because I was pretty confident that the lip would work wonders for it. Here's some more in-progress and almost-done pics. It gives a good enough idea as to what the rear looks like!   I have also booked in a track day at the end of January. Lets all hope that is nothing but pure fun and games. If it's not pure fun and games, well, I've already got half an engine spare in the cupboard 
    • Well, do ya, punk? Seriously though, let's fu<king go! The colour and kit looks amazing on the car. Do you have any shots from the rear? I don't quite follow how the model came around. You bought the white kit and he modified it to match your car? Looks nuts either way!
