Turbo Dying

I have just been noticing lately that compared to other r33's with similar mods to mine, my car doesnt seem to have as much of a "put you back in your seat" effect. The guy that just put my exhaust on seems to think that my turbo could be on it's way out...

How would I be able to tell if it really is? and what would be the best thing to do to.. e.g. new turbo, hi flow etc??

put it on a dyno and let the experts diagnose the problem,is it running rough?does it need a service? By the way where on the coast are you?? Im from around there too!

easy way to do it is if on boost you hear a sort of metallic whining noise, which would be the turbine rubbing the housing.

or lots of white smoke from exhaust.

if ur turbo's really going, then get a new one.

It has just been serviced a little while ago and apart from that everything seems to be running fine. It does seem to be making a lot more constant sucking noise than most others that I have seen as well...

sucking noise would just imply spooling. you'd have to listen intently to pick out the metallic noise but it'd be there.

could be anything.. doubt its the turbo.. it would be more obvious than what u describe... does it hold boost properly under load?

it seems to hold boost ok but that is mostly going off the stock guage. I think I will line up with my mates 33 tomorrow night and see how I hold up against him... if I loose I know there is a problem

Stock guage isn't too helpful.. could be a pressure leak..check all your pressure hoses .. and get mate to rev your car while you listen to the engine..see if u can hear air escaping from anywhere obvious

yeh jump on the dyno and find out what its really pulling... from there u can figure out whats wrong (ie if youre losing 20hp or 80hp)

save the money on the 'dyno' . Your timing may be a tad conservative. It is the most obvious starting point.

other than that it doesnt sound like you have any 'problems' at all just a tuning issue.
