Bouncy Speedo

Speedo on r32 gtr seems to bounce around constantly, except when its at 0. For example, sitting at 60 will have it fluctuate a couple of km up and done and just simply can't stay still.

Any ideas on what is causing this? alternatively, anyone know of a good speedometer repair shop that i can mail it to or something? unless there is one in canberra...

My guess would be speedo cable is starting to get a little dodgy/worn out. I got a new one for my gtst (should be same price) from nissan for $80 from memory.

being r32, it could be cable binding or the cluster itself.

remove the cluster and drive vehicle and see if it rotates smooth and constantly, to try and narrow it down a little.

if its ok, get the cluster repaired.

this happened to me. it bounced around for about a week then just died completely. on mine it was the drive on the end of the cable at the dash cluster end that was rounded off. this was causing it to only grab for a bit then slip. hence the bouncing.

i reakon just get a new cable, they don't cost much, i paid about 90 through nissan. took me about 20-30min to change.

heh. the speedo cable in my R31 bounced around at slow speeds for as long as I had the car. they don't make em like they used to

EDIT: Should note car has been converted to manual from auto 2 owners ago.

Yeah that's the same with me. Only seems to bounce when I'm travelling below 40kmh.

Most of the time, the bouncing speedo has something to do with the speedo cable.
