All the Evo's past the VI run AYC. They'll smash a GTS4, which doesn't even have proper ATTESSA, around the bends. The Evo VIII and IX run ACD as well (can't remember if the VII does or not), which will see them even further in the distance.

Technically speaking, the AYD / ACD combo in the modern Evos are the most advanced AWD drivetrains in the world. Far superior, from a technical standpoint, to ATTESSA.

Stock for stock, an Evo is at least as quick as a GT-R of the same age. On the right road, its quicker. Ultimate power wise on an open road that will let you exploit that power the GT-R can nevar lose, but bang for buck on the road or the smaller Australian racetracks its hard to find any car that'll outrun an Evo.

As for value, if you can afford to do light tune mods to an Evo VI or a significantly modified GTS4 I'd take the Evo. If you can barely afford an Evo but you can comfortably afford to mod a GTS4, buy the GTS4. The latter might only be as quick as the stock Evo you're scraping to afford, but it'll probably be more fun for the speed. And you'll have cash in pocket in case you break something.

a GTS4 beating an evo... never in a million years.

Thankyou "Scathing" for putting into words what i was frothing at the mouth to say. You have effectively in my mind put this mundane incomprehensible arguement to rest.

and for what its worth, the Evo will literally pulverise any of the skyline range bar the gtr and on a twisty road only a hard peddling WRX can keep up.

and were talking REAL WORLD environments boys and girls. shelve the testosterone and put your 1/4 mile slips away...im not talking about straight lines...even blind freddy can drive in a straight line..

pound for pound the Evo is the best 4WD in the world, and lapped quicker than the Murcielago on topgear driven by the Stig

Just google the evo and check out some of the vids..

Where do people come up with threads like this??!!

pound for pound the Evo is the best 4WD in the world, and lapped quicker than the Murcielago on topgear driven by the Stig

Wasn't officially driven by the Stig. It was driven by some touring car racer (who could be the Stig, for all we know). And it was up against the FQ400, not the "standard" Evo.

That said, I'd take Top Gear times with a grain of salt. On their test track, they have the Mazda RX8, Nissan 350Z and BMW M3 with equal lap times. I find that very hard to believe. Admittedly their course is flat, but a 350Z is a bit faster than an XR8 on a non-touge style road, and the M3 is significantly faster than both.

I get the feeling that the Stig isn't a single driver. They just grab whoever's available at the time and willing to do it, but since they need to pretend that the times are being set by a "benchmark driver" they can't let on that its a whole bunch of people so they hide the identity.

Someone must have heard my call for yet another Vs thread :yes::no:

Dear sir or madam.

Can you please help me? I was considering buying a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster or a Suzuki Cuppucino with a turbo Hayabusa engine conversion. I was wondering which one was quicker and more practical as a daily driver / tow vehicle?

Thank you in advance,

Some random idiot

I agree 100% , they couldn`t get the same driver all the time

I agree 100% , they couldn`t get the same driver all the time

if it was a retired f1 driver they could. especially if they lived in london. he could be a full time employee... you have it as his job..... you people do know what a job is?

they dont impress me at all, but im a die hard rwd fanboi who would rather have a challenge than something AWD that u cant go wrong in

just convert an evo to rwd. all you have to do is lock up the centre diff and remove the front drive shafts. thats how they setup the wrx drift car.

power aside the two cars are completely different

you are comparing a 1990 32 vs a 1997+ evo

the evo would have better average power

better traction

better handling

better seats

better interior

WTF? better interior? the evo interior is the worst this about it. Its a cheap shitty lancer interior only with Recaro seats!

R32 dash/ centre console is perfect.

Actually, the EVO was slower than the Murci in the time attack lap with the Stig, but that is often conveniently cut out by EVO fanboys that post the top gear vids on the net.

Not sure if this is the up to the minute latest lap time leader board - I seem to remember seeing the 360hp EVO IX on there at some point, but that might just be the crack I smoked earlier... I'll have to find out when I get home (I have every episode of the 'new' Top Gear on my computer  )

if it was a retired f1 driver they could. especially if they lived in london. he could be a full time employee... you have it as his job..... you people do know what a job is?

Considering the three presenters have other jobs and are high profile on the show, what makes you think the Stig would be doing it as their only gig?

The times are way too inconsistent. An E46 M3 running the same time as a 535d? Even if you accepted that an M3 was as slow as a 350Z or RX8, there's no way anyone would reasonably believe that BMW's most reknown sports coupe is as quick (or as slow) as one of their diesel powered sedans when in the hands of the same professional driver.
