standard r33 series two with pod and 3.5in to 4in turbo back exhaust

made 162 kw@w

after power fc install its got 145kw and surges at cruze and sometimes it cuts out all together

compression is good new plugs etc

so my question is why did i spent 2k plus buyin this thing and getting it tuned ??

any idea?

can i retune it myself?

Edited by juls33

i had the power fc tuned by a wksp

change the ecus over and its normal ????

ecu was the only thing he changed

Its not an issue with the PowerFC itself dude.

If you are not familiar with tuning, i would strongly advise against it.

Did you just change ECU, and tune it?

Nothing else at all?

$1000 for just a tune? My gosh i would be pissed! $500 - $600 is the usual price for a full tune... $450 G.B at J.E.M for a full tune if your in Sydney...

The Apexi PFC comes with a base tune that is made to plug in, start and drive.. meaning if your car is worse then before, its either:

- Poor tune

- Dying part (Fuel pump or AFM)

My advise would be to take it to a reputable tuner, get them to put it on the dyno and diagnose the problem before you end up needing a rebuild.

PM me if your from sydney... got a Dyno Day coming up soon... for $50 its the cheapest insurance for your engine...

Cheers

no im in townsville thats why soo expensive

only one tuner i used to trust :-{

ohh and my fuel economy is very poor 205 km to a full tank (50l)

fuel ratios are spot from the dyno printout

If you're looking for help in TSV...try posting in QueenslandStreetScene.com and someone may be able to help you. I am a Stagea owner in Townsville but I am not up to the stage of performance tuning and so am not really able to assist you (The Stag is almost completely stock at the moment).

Hope this is of assistance...

For that price they should offer after sales support. Take it back. Get them to drive it and point out what you aren't happy with.

As for the peak power, it's only part of the equation, was the 162 on another dyno or the same one? They don't necessarily read equal.

145 is pretty low, but without a decent intercooler it could have been heat soaked to buggery when the last power run was made.

And with that economy you should make sure they have the closed loop control on. Your O2 sensor could be on the way out but i doubt it

its not the engine it has to be the tune i can plug the old ecu in

and it heaps better and no dramas

162 was third gear peak at 115kph standard ecu

145 was 4 gear 150kph pfc

same day same dyno ?

nope standard nothin extra

i drove it with the standard map briefly

not long enough to say either way

i can say it didnt have the holes like it does now

it just seems to lose its place or something and

cut ignition , do pfc have a self diag?

If they didn't disable the boost controller in the pfc, or they set the boost way low [like 3psi or something stupid] maybe..................I really don't know, I'm just wondering if this could be a problem, someone with more knowledge than me may be able to answer.

ive just installed my PFC running the base map un-tuned and its given extra power straight up, theres no way you can go backwards, definately take it back to them, you paid good money for the tune, be firm let them know you want it sorted out cause thats horse sh*t, or atleast get them to find out WHY its gone backwards anyways if you want help with the PFC check out this link its tops

http://paulr33.skylinesaustralia.com/docs/...rfc-faq.htm#end

take it back and ask them, a $1000 for a tune is heaps. i would be happy with $500 at the most. read the pfc faq (in my sig)to find out about your fuel economy and tune types. this will give you some info and help sort it out with the tuner. there is no reason you should loose or power. its all in the tune

Sorry if you already answered this (only had a quick skim)

Have you put the factory ECU back in since this problem came about?

And see how it goes then?

If it runs ok with the stock ECU, i'd be going back to the tuner and asking what on earth they didnt do

Especially for $1000 mate, thats an extremely hefty bill for something if its not right.

For $1000 they should have had the car running perfectly before you picked it up

200k per tank jeez!!! it would be pumping heaps of smoke out.. i wouldnt trust the dyno either,, you cant compare a run in 3rd at 115 and a run in 4th at 150km for starters it should be making alot more power than that w/e gear it was in.

    • Yeah, nah. I had the actuator rod off it today. The arm will not move at all. Neither out, nor in. Yeah, you'd think so, but I've been thinking about that. Even when the actuator rod fell all the way off at the beginning of this saga, it would build more boost and faster in lower gears than it would in higher gears, and you'd think that that was the opposite of what should happen. But I strongly suspect that there is a thing with the gearing getting the revs to rise faster, that there must be some transient effect with the gas flow rate rising quickly, that you don't get with the more steady state case of the higher gears. Keep in mind - the gate is not shut in either of my weirdnesses. So things are not "normal". We normally think about a turbo spooling up (below the wastegate target) with the gate shut. I have all sorts of mental models running now where the gate is a little bit open, and having it stuck open allowing gas out while it should be going through the turbine has all sorts of weird effects (in these mental models). I'm thinking in the higher gears, the ex mani pressure builds to the point where enough gases spill out the wastegate to just prevent the pressure rising much more at all, or just creeping up, all the whole the revs are increasing and getting closer to the point where a gear shift becomes necessary.
    • Is it possibly wastegate actuator itself is sticking, or even the rod to flapper? Otherwise I reckon things are getting a bit rusty/worn   Also odd it won't boost in 3rd to 5th, but will in 1st, I'd expect the other way around with it slightly open as there's more time on your way to redline for it to spin up
    • Does anyone know ow what these two plugs are for and if they should be unplugged? Just put the dash back together and can't remember if these were plugged in before or unplugged! (Blue and white plugs) 🤦🏽‍♂️
    • Did some FASTing ...got the impression that the actual part# was a moot point ; seems all of these hardlines for coolant are discontinued/NLA... like, I take it you're after the hardline that bolts onto to the manifold...that's NLA according to amayama & nengun .... ...just to clear up some confusion, they typically mounted the AAC valve to the intake manifold somewhere near a coolant passage, so the body of the valve heats up & holds it open when engine's up to temp - no coolant flows through the valve, it's a mechanical, thermal connection.
    • And now the bloody flapper is jammed slightly open. Lazy as all f**k in 3rd-5th (very hard to convince it to make much boost before you run out of revs), but will make 12 psi in 1st, which shouldb't be possible with a 5 psi spring and controller set to <10 psi. Methinks I'm lucky it jammed where it did, rather than fully closed. It's actually a well weird situation. Careful examination of what's happening in the back of that housing when the gearbox comes out and all the other stuff (injectors, AFM retune) is supposed to be done, next week.
