Hi Guys,

I have a very simple, yet not simple question.

Will a set of 17X9.5 +12 wheels fit on my R32 GTR. Let's say shod with 235/45/17s or 245/40/17s?

I don't want to remove the guard liners, or have to modify anything really. I don't mind if the rim protrudes slightly (legality is not my #1 concern) as long as it doesn't contact the guard on bump.

Any help or experience greatly appreciated.

Well, how about at the front. Maybe...

I have some 255/40/17 RE55's on +22 offset rims (17x9) on my R32 R.

Ride heights are 255 & 245 front and rear.

At the back the tyres scraped the guards a little & so I had the lip rolled. Problem went away. I wouldn't be too confident that the rears will fit & allow you to run a small amount of -ve camber, ie one degree or less.

At the front with the -ve camber I run (just over two degrees) the car will happilly run a half inch spacer. So a 9" +12 offset should be fine & probably at 9 1/2" will be ok too.

You may be better off running +12 at the front & +22 at the rear.....

yeah ideally I'd like a 17X9.5 +20 or +22 but the wheel I'm buying comes in the following sizes/offsets:

17X9 +22

17X9.5 +28

17X9.5 +12

So the choice is get the X9 +22s and be like everyone else, but at least I know they will fit fine and look good (i previously ran 17X9 +20).

OR be weaksause but different and get the X9.5 +28 (I am right these will extend outwards the same distance as the X9 +22s did, just they will extend inwards a little more too?)

OR the third option is I harden the fkc up and just buy the X9.5 +12s and see what happens. but the rims are not exactly cheap so I dont want to mess this up.

and OK, I confess they are TE37s...

ok using the calculator (thanks 260).

I get the following repsonse.

going from the current (r33 GTR wheels 17X9 +30) to the 9.5 +28s will give me:

The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 4mm LESS

The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 8mm

comparing the 9 +30 to the 9.5 +12 gives:

The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 12mm MORE

The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 24mm

Comparing them both respectively to a 17X9 +22 gives:

the 9.5 +28:

The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 12mm LESS

The outside edge of the wheel will extend to THE SAME point as the stock wheel

compared to the 9.5 +12

The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 4mm MORE

The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 16mm

so compared to the 17X9 +22 option the 17X9.5 +12 option gives me 4mm more inside clearance and 16mm less... what do you reckon djr81, setting aside tyre size for a moment would 16mm more track each side cause any problems? It sounds like perhaps it would on the rear, but with running 235s or 245s all round it may not.

yes agreed, the 28s are a bit pussy. and you hit it, the main reason I'm doing this is more track. I miss the track I had with the 17X9 +20s. plus the 17X9 +30s just dont look the same.

I need to figure out if I can accomodate 24mm more protrusion that what I have now. maybe sticky tape some matchsticks around the edge of the rim and go for a drive and see how many are left at the end? lol.

Well I had issues with 255's on the rear with +22's, so yeah I reckon you could have problems.

But having said that there are two other things to consider:

Camber settings make a BIG difference so have a think about how much you want to run before you select the rims.

You can always run spacers on a larger offset rim. Not ideal if you are buying new, however.

yeah, I want to avoid spacers if possible. maybe I'll see if they do a 17X9 +12. that would give me 18mm more track each side which is a pretty good increase. where as the 17X9.5 +12 would be a 24mm increase each side! nuts.

ok. I checked my Rays catalogue at home and they list a 17X9 +15 which I am now considering. my friend in japan strongly reccomends the 17X9 +22 but I think the +15 may be just that bit tougher. anyway, I'm going to do some serious measuring this weekend. :(

If you look at a lot of the Japanese cars they go for the 'wheel outside the body' look.

I've noticed a lot of the cars in HyperRev etc run 9.5 +12 up to +22 for R32s, though they seem to protrude a bit.

IMHO it looks a bit odd, and having popped a guard in one of my old cars I reckon you want to stick to somewhere around a +18 to +22...

geez I envy the hard decisions you have to make lol

lol, yeah having a rays engineering goods master is a dangerous thing! I'm now tossing up between the 17X9 +22 and the 17X9 +15. I think I'll give up the 9.5 dream as neither of the offsets will be really suitable. I will know more when I put the string over it this weekend.

Just something to be wary of, though I'm sure you've probably already thought of it Richard, is that if you go too wide, or too low an offset you may have trouble curb hopping as you may tear off your guard.

Having said that, I like wide rims and tough offsets :ninja:

18x9.5 +22 on my 180

i have some work meister s2r which came off a gtr.. 17x8 +10 and 19x9 +10 ... the fronts fit due to wider front guards, the rears are a bit of a challenge, they stick out about 2cm but I'll be getting widebody done shortly

Sorry to hijack the thread fellas, but I couldnt justify starting a new one - Im looking at a set of Volk GTCs, measuring 18x10 in. with a +19 offset...Fat as hell...

Now, I realize i may need spacers... will these fit on my 32 GTR without hitting the guards? I have height adjustable suspension if that will assist...

Andrew, i reckon you'll really battle to get that under the 32 guards, even with a 235 section rubber.

Will probably have inner guard issues if not both...

A 18x10 is best on 33 and 34s, but if you prove me wrong that would be super sweet
