Thats the thing, they are legal.

Exhaust baffles are not legal, yet Ferrari's etc are allowed.

Its a fair load of crap.

I've been reading a lot of the DOTARS website and other ADR/Emission laws/information etc.

It doesnt seem hard to pass... so the Vic laws must be some pretty rubbish filled stuff, or they just want you ot think thats the case :D

wow im surprised they let you clear given the modificaitons done

epa in vic wouldnt let that pass for peanuts

as soon as its aftermarket anything pretty much no chance

:D

Am..........no

Just like any state, you make a modification/s that is untested, then yes they are illegal. You get an emissions test and prove that the car still complies to the emissions, for that year (ie: 1995), then they will pass. Unfortunately each test, in VIC, costs $1500, so if you fail the first time, that's another $1500 to test again.

Just ask Mav. He had lengthy discussions with the EPA officer, who commented that cars with bigger turbos, inj, power, etc, than his car (280rwkw), passed running ecu's like Pfc, Wolf, Motec, etc... EPA even passed Mav's car with the Greddy plenum and fmic, without any testing required.

EPA is not the pack of a'holes everyone makes them out to be.

PS: Congrates Guilt-Toy!! That's an awesome effort :P

They are a pack of mongrels. Its pretty much, any mod... BANG defected even if its making the car run better than it was before.

Even if you DO get tested/approved, the Police can STILL report you even if you've been cleared 110%.

You could go there 10 times a week for all the Gov't cares.

The rules and reglations (in vic) far go anything that any other state has for no clear or apparent reason. Other than power abuse towards the general public and making it impossible for the common punter... and a bit of revenue raising on the side of course.

Why should it cost me 10 times as much for a test on one state compared to another?

Why should i be able to cross a mystical line in the sand and my car can suddenly be cleared/tested where if i cross back the mystical line, suddenly im driving an illegal car?

It does not make sense, but i intend to make good sense of it :D

What AL said is correct, its actually not that hard to pass the emmissions test in vic. Most of our cars would pass if we had a compliance cat and a good tune (not too lean), I was even going to get my s15 tested.

But when i got quoted $1700 and if it failed you HAVE to go back and pay for another test, it was not worth it. If you have the cash you can do it. BLKCRX (james) of CRXaustralia and Hondata fame passed no problem with over 300rwkw from a 1.6l delsol CRX. And thats on a car that had no turbo to start with.

Congrats GT, i was wondering if you still have your EGR hooked up, as under vacuum conditions it injects exhaust gas into the inlet to reduce combustion temps, specifically to target NOx levels. Perhaps if it is hooked up. then you would be able to run leaner mixtures? Also the charcoal canister it there to remove fuel vapour from the tank especially when the tank gets hot and the fuel expands/boils. this is to prevent the pressure forcing raw fuel vapours from going into the atmosphere. Not trying to dampen things, but although it has passed emmissions, the engineer is obliged to check that all these, and pcv/breathers are fully functional, although most engineers dont.

Im pretty sure the charcol canister is all hooked up correctly.. i hooked it back up again last weekend and not sure about the pvc valve.. i think it is all still stock as i run the standard bottom half of the plenum with the plazmaman.

EPA do not issue defects :D

The cops are another story.... But if you get your car tested, pass emissions, get engineered, etc then you can take the defecting officer and his precenct to court for harassment; it has been done and won before. Then the harassment will cease :(

The EPA issue a notice, defect, whatever you wanna call it.

Does it really matter what its called? We all know what it means

cheers dude.. Autronic is another ECU that has been known to pass emisions so you should be able to do it to... my car is not legal just yet - i need to get a engineers certificate to finish it off which is comming very soon. but its a good start and something to show mr police man if he gets nasty about it.

nice work dude. do my autronic kthanx :(

hahah nar must feel good to drive around knowing its legal. ive only got halfway there.

This is how it works:

Cop pulls you up ancd decides to send you to EPA for ammisions test, you have about 4 weeks to do the test, if you don't go for the test then they cancel your rego. If you do the test and you don't pass they cancel your rego just the same . Same as any other defect .

hey guys top work. This is the type of thing we need to keep doing great work. I think that there is a cat that reduces the amount of NOX its called a 3- way cat, is this what you mean when you say compliance cat.

Cheers Matt.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
