Its great to hear that you passed both tests!

Im starting to freak out a bit because my car (R32 gtst with a GTR engine) is almost ready for blue slipping and rego. Ive got an Autronic SM4, high mount Gt35, 700cc's external gate etc etc, and i really want to carry around the engineers certificates so that if i get pulled over i have something to argue with.

If you do decide to carry out emissions sensitive dyno tunes, i'd definately be interested.

I'd also be interested to know which Engineer you used, as i live on the Central Coast which is obviously nearby.

Shaun.

PS: Does blue slipping in NSW have anything to do with emissions, or is it just an indepth pink slip (ie, safety issues)?

I dont do much tuning anymore, only for my close friends... I can however put you onto a emissions tuner who has all the gear and does a good job.

I cant gaurentee that your car will pass if i tune it. I got mine through pretty easily but my car is not a GTR. A GTR is completly different because of the more agressive cams and head setup compared to the GTST.

If you have aftermarket cams then you can forget about getting the car passed emissions. It wont happen. If it does then your doing pretty damn friggin good (but i guess everyone told me i couldnt get my car to pass so who knows ???)

I do have access to a few dynos and a five gas but i dont do it enough to get you to hire the gear and get your car passed first go... It would probly still be a learning curve for me especially when it comes to the GTR & your ECU is different to mine although i have used Autronics before.

The good news is that you do have a good enough ECU to pass the emissions test, the autronic is a great computer and is more then capable of passing.

I suggest you go out and get yourself a brand new compliance catco 3 way cat before you even try your first test, then do your test and scan it and send it to me and i will check it out and see how close / far you are from getting it to pass & then i can tell you if i am willing to give it a go or not...

Which brand injectors ? how many holes do they have?

Also ask the RTA guy to write down the maximum limits for your year model & car that are passable.

The engineer is lakeside at wyong. The blue slip guy will want all the modifications engineered and before your engineer will engineer a intercooler or high mount or extractors etc etc you will need a emissions test.

ps - its very important to get that cat. without the catco 3 way you will most probly fail. Make sure all your emisisons control gear & canisters are all hooked up correctly!

For you its going to be interesting and a long mission ahead for you.

For starters your cams have to go, your catch can has to be hooked back into the intake (remove it completly or make a plumb back system). You will have to try and hook up the standard air box OR get a aftermarket box made up and get a noise drive by test by your engineer.. (you are in nsw yes???)

intercooler can stay where it is, passing the emissions test will allow the engineer to engineer the cooler.

Exaust noise can be fixed by fitting a stock exuast back on.

Get a good cat converter (catco 3 way cat) and then you will need to work on tuning.... go do your first test and print out the details and post them up and i can have a look, make sure you ask the RTA guy to write down your max levels for all the gas's tested so you know how far you are out.

But dont bother going unless you do all of the above unless you want go humor yourself and fail by an absolute shitload for something to do.

good luck

Good to hear is all clear..

I got detoured to an epa station last night.

They got me for;

* Exhaust (noise)

* Air Filter (induction noise)

* non-standard intercooler - turbo

* adjustable fuel pressure regulator

* catch can has a filter on it

Can anyone give me some more advice as to what i should change or do.

Car - 1990 R32 GTR

Current Mods

* PowerFC dejetro

* cams

* Single hi-mount turbo

* bigger fmic

* airfilter

* exhaust

* Fuel pressure regulator

* External Gate

* Catch can

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Dave

Holy shit!

So before i can even get the car registered, i have to pass an emissions test? How do i get the car to Botany or Penrith? Tow it??

Didnt you say that you had your pod filter in the front bar? Thats where mine is too; theres no way i can fit the standard air box.

I dont even know where my charcoal cannister is or how it is hooked up. I guess its no biggie to plumb the catch can into the inlet. I dont have aftermarket cams. My injectors are Sard 700cc, i think they only have one hole but its been a while.

Looks like ill have a massive job ahead of me. Did you end up using Lakeside for your engineering requirements?

Thanks,

Shaun.

Hey mate

yeah my pod filter is in the front bar and is enclosed. Lakeside said he would engineer it without any hassles.

I guess because your car is unregistered you would have to tow it to botany, i would call your blue slipper and ask them if they will pass the blue slip with the modifications. Some of them might let you go through and you will be able to drive it registered to botany.

post some pics of your engine bay, mostly around the turbo side. by the looks of that avtar of yours it might be hooked up still.

and yeah lakeside is the go, i would get him to engineer your car for you.

It wont be that big of a job once you get your stock exaust and your cat.

Thanks,

I saw a add in a HPI mag or zoom mag i got last month so when i get home i will have a look and post up the details of where to get the catco cat.

If you find the add yourself post it up for everyone else that wants to buy one.

Guilty Toy - Thanks for the advice dude.. Where abouts can i get this Catco 3 way cat from and rough price?

Is it definately Lakeside at Wyong. I can only find lakedge Motors at Tumbi Umbi??

Ive been ringing around, and everyone says it was a massive mistake to let it go out of rego, but if i can convince the engineer that it still has a standard computer, i can get out of emissions testing and just worry about the engineers certificates for the other modifications (an engineer told me that).

Ill post up some pics of the engine bay, but the charcoal cannister is definately gone; not to say i cant hook it back up again though. What does it do exactly??

I was thinking of fabricating a shroud to go over the 3 inch inlet pipe from the air filter.

Also, the RTA website says you can get 28 day permits to drive an unregistered vehicle for the purposes of registration. It costs you though.

wow looks good mate... looks pretty sweet :bunny:

I dont think the engineer will let you get away without a emissions test because its got a non standard exaust manifold and a non standard turbo, not to mention the pipework and catch can setup etc etc.

I would think it would need to be emissions tested for engineers certificate with or without a standard computer because of other modifications.

Yeah big mistake lettin it run outta rego, but shit happens. how long has it been out ? i figure more then 3 months because your getting a bluey.. damn.!!!

Lakesides engineering is on the RTA web site in the list of signitorys for engineers that you can get your car engineered from, if you can not find it on the RTA web site then let me know and i suppose i can find it for you, i do have his card in my car but im at work atm i could have a look when i go out to get some lunch.

The canister does something with the fuel tank and the breathing of it or something like that. I am not even 100% sure if the GTR came with one, i would assume so maybe you should ask someone that knows about GTR's but i know all gtst's had them.

let me know if you cant find the guys number and i will get it for you.

Its been out of rego for about 3 years. I suppose i would have run into problems when i had to renew the rego without an engine in the car anyway.

Sorry, but i cant find Lakesides number on the RTA website or the yellow pages. I just discovered that i did hook up a small charcoal cannister, but i relocated it inside the guard; i remember now.

I cant understand why it matters whether the turbo is high or low for emissions, but they're the rules i suppose.

Ive also got a battery in a fabricated box in the boot. I wonder if that'll matter.

Shaun.

ahhhh its a pdf file on RTA web site.

Go to the RTA web site and search for the following string

engineering signatories

and its the second link :D it has all the available engineers listed on it. i know some of them are out of date but you get the idea.

hope this helps

I didnt even see that table.

Thanks mate, Ill ring him today.

Ive spoken to a few engineers and blue slip places about my situation (Nathan at The Throttle Shop @ West Gosford was really helpful), and they all seem to say that if you can keep the fact that you have an aftermarket computer quiet, you'll avoid going for an emissions test. This is where you really get f**ked over (except Guilt toy - well done) and waiting times are about 2 months for the test.

One engineer said about one modified car in one thousand passes! So well done to you, but i think i'll try to avoid it!

Shaun.

PS. Ill definately need a cat though. Ive got a Trust 4inch exhaust, and im after a similar sized cat. Any ideas on where to get one? Im not sure if ill pass the noise test with my exhaust, but it came with one of those silencers that you can bolt in the tip. Do you know if they'll allow this?

Thanks again,

Shaun.

i need a cat too mate. what do you have on your car at the moment?

i want a 3" high flowing one better then the xforce ones... or a 3.5" or 4"

we should find a decent flowing one and try get them cheaper for 2...

il start looking around... if you find anything let me know.
