The last time I bought some (in fuel containers) that pump wasn't locked .

The first time I went there they came running out thinking I didn't know what it was but once you tell them that you take full responsibility for using it theres no probs .

Recently I changed the fuel pump and hoses in my mid 80's flat four MON/RON test engine just to be sure .

I don't see too many probs with E85 and probes or cats from a longevity point of view , I haven't read anything that gave cause for concern . My father was a lab tech and said it (Eth) burns away to C02 and H20 .

The car to watch is that flex fueled Commode Door - if it ever gets into production .

I don't like your chances of getting the EPA/RTA to waive the converter even if the numbers come up right , I reckon they'll always argue that someone somewhere will stick ULP in (by accident or design) and they won't wear that .

Until they can come up with a way of forcing people to use E85 only in a car tuned specifically to run it I think legally the cat will have to stay .

My biggest issue with high ethanol content fuel is the water absorption one , as I said SK once mentioned an inline seperator of some sort and I really think we need to investigate that one .

Another significant one is ethanols higher vapor pressure and what it could do to the evaporative gear cars have - charcol canisters . There must be a way around that one too .

Personally I'm going to wait until E85 becomes more available because I can't see the point in tuning a road car for something that is only available through one or maybe two pumps in Sydney - none close to me .

It would be interesting to try one of those plug in conversion kits floating around in the US but not sure if any are out here yet .

Cheers A .

Okay then, for now i might keep the cat but i wont change it to the good compliance cat i used last time to pass the test, i will use the crappy high flow one that does not work as well when using this fuel. Surely it will still pass.

I am lucky because i can re-tune my car for cruise in probly around 10 minutes to get it running to the point where its driveable, then i can take it up to newcastle and chuck it on a dyno for a few hours and do the rest. I will only tune it to 18psi and about 300rwkw for the load side.

Will also put the 5gas on and do a dummy IM240 test when on the dyno and will post results.

This fuel might be a easy way out of passing the emissions test! will do some testing next thursday night, i will fill up my tank with it and a 20 litre drum to use once i get to newcastle. once i run out il load the 98 maps back up untill i can get more e85.

Do you think the 044 pump will handle it OK ?

I passed another car through the IM240 Emission's test today, this one was road tuned around a industrial area in cardiff and went on to pass the test the next day!

Goes to show if you build a car and tune it properly you can make your car legal and get it engineered.

This car has 300rwkw.

I might have missed it the results (although I thought I read all 5 pages), but I take it was a lot easier with E85 and what was the end deal whether or not the car would be required.

read my e85 thread. info in there

how sure are we that they dont keep a record at all of cars that do it voluntarily and fail? e.g. if ive got a car thats currently engineered etc (not sure as to whether its engineered/passed for emissions), am i likely to get a letter in the mail that someone 'anonymously' tipped them off?

what was the booking procedure? is it just you book it and u go on a waiting list or whatever? no cost?

id like to see how good i can get the car in terms of compliance, but without returning everything to stock (given the point is to have a legal modified car, not one u swap parts on all the time).

(also the car im talking about is going to be under the 97-2003, which is THC (g/km): 0.26, NOx (g/km): 0.63, CO (g/km): 2.1, so it may be a bit harder/need more work to get it to pass)

Rest assured, the RTA are only there to do the emissions testing. they do not care if you come on your own and fail. They are not here to police the laws they are there to provide the services to us so we can make our cars legal.

The police and EPA are the ones you need to worry about. if you get sent to do a IM240 test by police or EPA and you fail then yes you will have problems.

There is NO risk at all of ringing the RTA booking a test and failing. The guys at the RTA like it when they see people go there to try and pass to engineer there car without any defects because they have had all sorts of troubles with fully sick defected car owners getting angry at them when they don't pass because now their rego is going to get cancelled or they have to go and do the test again

They do not even care about the modifications to your car, they will not issue you with a defect if you have a screamer pipe or BOV at the time of the test, THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR!!!

They are there to put the car in the booth test it and move onto the next one.

I have said this many times. Please stop asking this question !!!!

is this possible to do it vic??

i know you cant just keep going to the epa using there there dyno to make you car legal like nsw

but is it possible to make you car comply to legal emission in vic with a modifed car??

i believe this was talked about earlier in this thread.

hey is it the year of the car or the engine cause if it is the car you can put all your stuf in a datto and have the tune you want!!! [1969/75 no epa back then]

sorry to bump the thread but one day i want to do this to a 1200 coupe but unmodded one arent exactly a dime a dozen.

Emissions = engine in most cases.

However things like exhaust noise levels, depending on motor age etc, can vary.

Either way all emission controls must be inplace for the motor as you cannot go backwards in terms of motor (at least not in Vic anyway).

EG: You cant put a RB30E into a VN :D

other states vary so talk to your local engineer.

in NSW you can put any engine in any car, the problem is that you have to pass the emissions test for whatever is the latest model.

example, if you have a datsun 1600, 1970's and you put a 2008 model R35 GTR engine you will need to pass emissions for 2008 standard.

If you put a old pushrod 1980 engine in a 1995 skyline you will need to pass emissions for the 1995 skyline, and doing that with a 1980 pushrod engine will be a big mission.

Speak to your engine before you take any of this as gospel, I could be wrong but this is what i was told.

    • Hey was wondering if you ended up installing the R33 GTR speed sensor - I found one too and wanted to confirm it's a direct swap into the R34 6 speed?
    • After 23 years of owning a Skyline, finally had the latch go.  Followed this guide,  works like a dream again. Great Guide 👍
    • Hi all,   I’ve got the biggest lot of problems with my R33 GTS-T   It was a freshly rebuilt 25th anniversary RB25DET (plastic cas, neo cams) probably 6 years ago now   The engine was running so well but I fkd up badly and trusted someone I’d known for 10 years that was well known around Plazmaman for his welding and fab work. I added a lovely photo of some of his previous work. Not sure why my car was worked on by whoever did this shit     I’m normally someone who would never open myself up to something like this, I still can’t believe I did it. Trusting him literally fkd it all up for me. Everything has been a struggle, like it’s almost been 6 years that’s how much I’ve just on and off been trying to work it all out.    All I wanted was a car that danced down low, like full boost from around 3~3500rpm to redline, don’t really care what power it puts down (if it ever does) but I just wanted it to be quick to get on it.    He recommended the turbo to get, I picked Hypergear but he told me to get the front 4” with a T4 and 0.68 rear housing.    I was expecting all these beautiful welds, tidy fab work and paid for it to be ready to go to a tuner when I got it back.    I got a car back that was an absolute mess, I actually couldn’t believe it was my car anymore. I don’t think you could even call what he did welds, they’re disgusting.    So I stripped everything he touched off it and with every bolt I loosened it just got worse and worse.    I covered it and literally built and finished another car in the meantime but now it’s getting to the point where I really want my Skyline back.   Its a struggle because I paid him to do all this shit because I didn’t know how to and now I’ve had to try and figure it all out omg    Please excuse the bird shit horrible welds, I’ve got my show pony car and am so beyond dealing with this car I don’t even really care at this point.    If someone told me about what he did to my car I wouldn’t have believed them but it happened to me. It was unbelievable. He went missing, my car went missing, it came back missing parts, the straight af chassis rails bore the scars of being dragged up a trailer backwards, even the sandwich plate was bent. Everything was leaking and open to whatever fell into it, rounded off/ missing bolts, power steering oil and coolant everywhere, no gaskets, parts stolen off it, even managed to damage the sump pan.   Promised me he’d finish the car, knew what it meant to me, I paid him thousands and thousands just for him to trash it. He told me he was fully licensed and insured, come to find out he’d cancelled his ABN, so obviously no insurance. I had laid up insurance on the car and would’ve been covered but I was scared they would’ve written it off or because the business was no longer trading I’d still be liable.    He was supposed to:  New fully custom mild steam pipe exhaust manifold with turbo location moved from factory position to high forward mount. (I don’t know if it is a mild steam pipe, I’ve got a funny feeling the waste gate isn’t in a very good position and I don’t think the outlets off each cylinder are equal) 4” custom stainless steel dump with external gate (he re-plumbed it) Cut and shut OEM intake manifold with throttle reposition (I ended up doing the throttle reposition) Box in pod filter (left out) New 100cel catalytic converter (pretty sure it’s there but unsure if it’s 100cel) Front mount intercooler piping fabricated to suit (all smashed up and rusty holes where he was supposed to make it look standard where fmic piping passes through. I don’t even think my front bar is going to fit 🙄) Custom 5” intake pipe from pod to turbo (didn’t come with it so had to do something to make it work with the Z32 afm)   Engine: Full cylinder head service & machining  Brand new valves Precision upgraded spring kit Engine block honed New bearings  New piston rings  New ARP conrod bolt kit New ARP head studs Cometic head gasket VRS kit   ATR43SS2 ball bearing turbo 0.68 rear housing  Turbosmart 45mm external wastegate (got delivered to the fab bloke, I’ve got no idea what spring is in it, I’m assuming the one that came pre installed) Walbro 260 fuel pump  Nismo 740cc injectors (tested to 880) Spitfire coil packs GCG FMIC RB25DET manual 5 speed 4:11 rear diff   I’ve got an Apexi Power FC in it atm, I was hoping to just get it to operating temp to make sure everything was okay before towing to a tuner but it’s over-fuelling too much. I don’t think that’s going to happen so i think I’m going to get either a Link G4 or Haltech for it. What do you guys recommend? I can’t work out the power FC so just gonna give up on that one     It’s got an exhaust leak coming from somewhere I can’t see 🙄    The fuel pressure was steady but now it like drops from 40 to 20psi randomly (noticed this yesterday)    I’ll attach pics of the shit he put on my car and the engine bay now as it sits    I really just need some help, I need a tuner in Sydney I can trust, I’d like to be with the car while it’s being tuned if possible, I know it looks terrible but unfortunately I’ve just got to put up with it for now and fix the cosmetic stuff later   Do you guys think the manifolds are going to be okay? Or do I throw the exhaust manifold and try again?   I don’t even think these combinations are going to work tbh   I know everything I fitted was rated to be able to take at least 400kW but most rated higher    If you’ve gotten this far I really really appreciate it 🙏 I don’t mind if you trash me or the car, I made a rookie error and f**k I’ve paid for it. As you’ll see 🙄
    • From everything I’ve heard you’ll be waiting a long time for  the parts to arrive
    • Have you looked at the workshop manual?
