Day Out With Kutsie, Take 2 (updated With Pics)

So it was time to get a new tune with kutsie.

Changes since the old setup, was a new cold air intake, a new ecu from Central 20, and a gizzmo EBC.

So I will put the scans up tomorrow.

First up Andrew ran the car with the setup as was, and running rich it pulled a good 180 rwKw or so. But as we began to take fuel out of the car with the SAFC II, pinging set in. So Andrew knocked back the timing and decreased the base fuel pressure, and the pinging went away. He proceeded to do so a few times and set up the boost controller for 4 different settings, and the cruise lambda settings as well.

SO what was the outcome? HERE WE GO, 192 rwKw @ 9.3 psi, 195 @ 10.2psi, 199 @ 11.9 psi AND 207 rwKw @ 12.3 psi. I have actually seen the EBC jump to 14.2 psi while driving and I don’t know what power that was, but in first gear I got nothing but smoke out the tires.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 200 rwKw target achieved, thus stage one is complete.

Once again thanks must go out to Andrew and the team at Pro Automotive, I can't state enough how professional the guys there are. Many thanks.

So now onto stage two. New intake plenum in planning progress, new turbo, new injectors and a new ecu, not sure which, but will actually try what it will do with the current Central 20 ecu and a new turbo.

For a relatively stock car, with all the mods being done by myself, I am chuffed. Not only did I reach my target, but I due to the new ECU I picked up close to 60 rwKw through the whole rev range.

EDITED: It would pay if i read the dyno properly.

glad to see you got there eventually

that's more power than mine had! bastard!

Well it'll still be a couple months before mine is turboed, but I'd like to see my figures within 15-20rwkw of that from the dirty old RB30

hell yeah, befor it was so slow through the mid range, and then bag, gear change. Allthough because it seams like there is less pull, because it is more linear, IT IS SOOOO much faster then before.

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
