hey, i was canaried a few days ago for a few things, such as ride height, unroadworthy tyres, parker bulbs blown, pod filter and loose front bar. now im not bitching in any shape, way or form because i knew i had this coming. all i wanted to know was that the officer said something about EPA. does this mean that i will be sent to EPA to check if my defects have really been cleared (due to dodgy rwc's) or that they will do a FULL inspection of the car in general? such as ALL modifications on the car.

any feed back would be awesome, especially those who have been in the same position.

cheers, Miguel

EPA aren't there for defects or dodgey rwc etc etc.

They are there to check your noise level output and your exhaust gas emissions.

If you have a cat and all the pollution gear intact, no aftermarket ecu/turbo, no boost controller and only 1 intake mod, you should pass the emissions test.

If you exhuast is under 90dB, you'll pass the noise test

awesome awesome! as i have a dr. drift remap, hiflow and a spare stock muffler (read 84dB), i should be able to pass if i take out my bleed valve and pod. would they check injector flow? as i have nismo 555cc and dont have the stock ones anymore :D

Depends on what type of EPA he gets

Macleod, or just an exhaust test.

Macleod wont pass ECU mods, injectors, turbos anything.

You might be lucky and get passed, you might be unlucky and be pinned for each modification

Its your own gamble if your off to Macleod

if i am off to macleod, id be prepared to change everything over back to stock, wouldnt be that much of a bitch would it? would my car still be drivable if i swapped my 555cc injectors with the stocker? tune is under 200rwkw so stock injectors are still capable. just need to know if itll work.

Its highly likely they will also check the ECU

So you'd need to return it back to the factory item (un-chipped)

They opened my ECU cover up 18months ago, so the EPA are well aware of the fact you can "chip" stock ECU's

cheers

Yeah, sometimes they are... sometimes they are not.

I had a rough exam, where others have passed with as many things as i was failed for.

As with everything related to law application... its sometimes accurate and sometimes just amazing the things that are not even looked at

When i was sent to mcleod, i was in my old car: Onevia RB20DET, hks2540R, 440cc injectors, full exhaust, dr drift remap etc...

I passed, they checked for BOV, Boost Controller, they did check for aftermarket ecu but they only pulled the plastic cover of they did not pull the computer to bits to check for chip etc...

They did check for aftermarket turbo, but as mine was still lowmounted and had all stock heatsheild on it they passed me...

And they also check for engineers cert if you have engine swap etc...

Guys,

I just got done by police for an EPA noise test. The officer pulled me over, went thru the usual licence check, breath test etc, then said for me to be on my way and he will send me an EPA notice. Whould I have got something off him at the time? Or does it just come in the mail?

Also, from a search on here I have found its measured at 60% of your redline, and that the limit is 90Db. (I have a 1990 R32 GTR). I have a 3inch full turbo back exhaust. No other mods other than like pod filters etc etc. What distance is the 90Db measured at?

Will a swap to a stock exhaust solve my problem?

Cheers for help guys!

Anyone with a stock 32 GTR exhaust, let me know! I need to borrow!!

Dan :)

Ok... as for him sending you something.

Its just as he said, it will be sent. Being it wasnt gien to you on the spot, that really only leaves mail as an option, so yes... as the officer said. I will be posted.

RB26 RPM test is 5200RPM.

If you have aftermarket front pipes, a stock GTR doesnt even pass. SO you will need to chat to an exhaust place about "measures" to lower it.

iv got aftermarket front pipes,no cat and 3.5" exhaust, and had to do a noise test,

the exhaust place i took it to said theres no point in testing cause it was a lot lounder then 90db,

so they just cut of my rear muffler and welder flanges on to it a fittied a 2" muffler and i think that got 86db.

    • Last year I got a set of MCA street coilovers for my turbo Forester after my son hitting a concrete gutter/wall on a small bridge causing the whole drivers side suspension to get bent because the rain just made the car slide out I love them, I think they were $2400. even had a hiccup of have the wrong hub configuration (my fault) so got onto MCA and they sent the correct shock ends overnight parts from QLD, for free!  I was very impressed with their customer service and quality of the product
    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.

    • KYBs are typically twin tube, putting them in the lower tier of desireability. Do you just want to replace worn out ones for the lowest cost? I mean, you wouldn't just replace one end of a car, if the rears are a similar age to the fronts, then they are probably nowhere near what they should be, and likely won't be great against brand new fronts. So, to spend ~$800 on 2nd tier dampers, when you could get a decent set of MCA coilovers for <$4k.....? As to the strut tops. 1st up, the Sparesbox site specifically tells you that they are not correct for an R33. Beyond that, why do you think you need them?
