Hey guys in the market for an R32 and have found a mint one, but just wondering about the RB20 silvertop.. is this the stock engine for the series? Car is 1989 R32, with an RB20 silvertop obviously. Is the silvertop any different from the other R32 engines? And if so does it have potential... with a realistic budget ofcourse.

Cheers.

No that isn't the stock motor only later model 32 gtst's had the silver top NICS Rb20, it is a good thing though as it is better than the red top ECCS Rb20 which is the stock motor for the car. The silver top has bb turbo and rated at a bit more power.

As for potential Rb20s are good for stage 1 mods like exhaust, bit of boost, ECU, gives about 160-170rwkw.

Turbo, intercooler, fuel pump, AFM, injectors gives 200+kw but they lack torque and people usually dont bother and dump them for rb25s

hey mate,

from what i know..

the rb20 has been around for quite a while now. started out inthe r31 in japan as an rb20 redtop NICS. then, after some development, along came the rb20 redtop ECCS version, also in the R31

the r32 came out with the rb20 silvertop ECCS version. all r32's have the rb20 silvertop version, all have a ball-bearing ceramic turbo, all are intercooled etc.

they are a great engine for modifications. now remember that they are only 2L in capacity, so when the turbo is "off boost" they lack the ability to get the car moving like a commodore would. but, after say 3000rpm, they really get moving.

on a manual car, with about 2000 spent on an exhaust, boost controller, and maybe a front-mount intercooler, they go like a cut snake.

Nope all r32's rb20's were the silver top. R31's had red tops. NICS were the old red tops, ECCS the silver top.

WTF are U jabbering on about? ALL R32 GTS[t/4]s came out with a silver top (RB20 ECCS).

Hmmm yeah that would be cool bubba.. going to have a squiz at the car tommorrow arvo.

Well i'm not so worried about all about power... the car seems to have ALOT done to it.. what i'm worried about is that he told me it has 'alot of lag'... it has a Garrett T-04 turbo fitted to it... I'm concerned about a mismatched turbo... full boost isn't until 4500 so i'm told..

Anyone know of this turbo being fitted to an RB20?

Cheers.

sounds pretty big.. i get 13psi through my stock 20 turbo by 3500rpm, stock is reasonably laggy as it is.. taking gaps in traffic is chewing my tyres

is the engine stock internally? coz the turbo would probably go well on a 25 when the 20 dies :P

Yeah its stock internally...

but add ons.. has secondary injectors, Greddy rebic fuel computer, HKS ext wastegate, aft manifold, 3 inch turbo back exst, FMIC, GTR fuel pump, EBC, remapped ECU..

Could be a hard one to keep on the road i'm thinking..

Sounds fun! the turbo/manifold/gate should bolt easily onto a 25 and the supporting mods such as exhaust/fmic/fuelpump/ebc are done so all you would need is an RB25/ecu and it would be even MORE fun! Oh and maybe some injectors depending on how hard you want to lean on it :)

    • Just a thought, but instead of restricting, is it possible to do like an "up for review" kind of thing? Where say someone who's not an admin/mod tags, it would require approval for it to actually tag? User posts with a 'tag' > Admin/Mod Reviews > Approves tag > Tag now exists kinda thing? Just came across this thread so Im not too sure if Im straying off topic or not but forgive me if i am...
    • Yes, a plan for non-action is always my first sort of plan! I'm happy to see what falls out of invision's update. I had been having some thoughts on what to do with this the other day and they all seem to have fled my memory, after various solar panel induced traumas, squeaking suspension sphericals, etc etc, over the last little bit. I'll try and recall what I had in mind and make sure that I put it into print in some form before the Alzheimer's strikes again.
    • The ability to have both a 5500 stall for launching, and a regular lockup for every other scenario is pretty sweet. Does it actually work well like that though in the real world? Would it hold up to track use and otherwise you'd never know you had a stall converter in it? If so, that's awesome
    • The thing is, once the content has been tagged we can chop and change the end result as much as we want. Its identifying the content in the first place that needs to be done regardless of the final outcome.
    • Sorry @GTSBoy I thought I'd replied here. There's a new BIG version of invision coming out soon, it might be worth waiting until that happens as it contains a lot of improved functionality for tags. My suggestion would be to add a top level page (not thread) with some info on it and then link to sub pages for various topics. We could even just start really simple with 2 or 3 pages underneath it. Those pages could just have a view (like a pre configured search result) of the tags we choose to put on it. We could have some background or an intro on each of these pages. My only issue is that while admins and mods can update the existing content to contain the tags we want, new posts can have whatever tags the author wants. That said, the reason our tags are so messy is because of that, so maybe we restrict tagging to admins/mods in edits.
