Tokyo For Autosalon 2008? Wanna Go?

Recommended Posts

As above ^^^

The last 3 years BB and I have stood in the cold, freezing our balls off waiting and waiting, its really just too hard, and once everyone makes it to the exhibition hall they all want to break up and see the show their own way.

Hell yeh! Im up for that.More the merrier i say.Myself and my mate joining me on the trip are crazy for JDMs of all sorts so sharing a moment in the bitter cold would be a laugh.

Sounds like there is going to be a large SAU contingent there again this time :ninja:

pity i never get to really get to enjoy it... most of it is spent in meetings. Looking forward to going there on my own terms one year... :)

will definatley keep my eye out for other skippy poofs but :D

Where is everyone staying? I would suggest staying near Tokyo and not near the TAS venue as there isnt anything there after dark.

Anyone with Press Pass Day tickets?

none spare :D

WE are staying in the Ginza area as the hotel we were staying in a Shinjuku is closing for work. So Im hoping that area well be have lots to do and see.

Anybody give any good locations in Ginza???

Brought tickets online and printed them out, so already to go now, hopefully the new GTR might be there, fingers crossed to get at look at that baby, OH YEAH

guys I am thinking of going for 5 days,

looking at staying at sukura hotel

I have looked at flights and found a set flying JAL return for 1850.

Is anyone close by as I am a bit worried going by myself thats all.

yep, $1850 with JAL is as good as it gets at that time of year.

I'm sure there will be people around, but you shouldn't worry too much. It's pretty easy to find your way there on your own. and no need to buy tickets in advance or anything. just buy them there for about $15.

I would suggest the Toyoko Inn at Shinagawa. The hotel is clean and new. Kinda like a Novotel/Ibis but without the extras. Its around 7,000 a night and about 3 mins from Shinagawa Station which is a major station. I stayed there during my TAS visit in 2000 and it was good.

From Shinagawa, its a 10 minute train ride to all the spots travellers visit.

Hi all,

Would like to know who is traveling with who:

By yourself

With a friend

girlfriend or wife

Are people doing there own thing or can we organize some group trips?

Im sure alot of people would be seeing some of the same attractions.

(Apart from Nick and Richard going to Disneyland) lol

I want to go but it would be just me I am happy to do the group thing as its the first time out of the country for me. I will be flying on a NZ passport so no visa is needed.

I am based on the southside of Brisbane I wouldn't mind meeting up to discuss so I know what i am getting myself into.

Im going with Girlfriend (r32gtrchick) we get there a couple of days earlier to do a bit of the tour

thing, going on Saturday to TAS and Sunday going to Disneyland :P too........lol. Heading to Osaka for 3 days after that to play tourist and maybe visit a couple of tuning houses. Happy to meet up for some night time drinks or dinner?? ;)

i would suggest staying somewhere "more in the action". Shinagawa is a business district. People either work there or stay in the hotels wandering the streets. There is nothing to do there at night. For people going to Japan for the first time/ first couple of times I would suggest either staying in or very close to either Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza, Roppongi etc etc It may cost a little more but if you want to experience "the big japanese cities" and "their night life" its a far better location. And there is always something to do no matter what night of the week it is.

Also, saying that shinagawa is only 10 minutes from all the places tourists visit is a down right dirty big lie... infact it couldnt be further from the truth

If people want advice about going to Japan it should be done by those who actually know what they are talking about :glare:

Does anyone know how our mobiles will work in Japan?

Will they work?

Is it as simple as calling the service provider(vodafone) and getting my phone switched to international roaming?

How are we all going to communicate with each other when in Japan?

We are all ago, have tickets for flight, hotel and JR. I am thinking of going to Osaka via JR when we go down there, is this the best way to go???

I have transfers from the airport to Toyko and from hotel in Osaka to airport, but wondering if carrying large bags on the train down to Osaka is the best thing to do or to just find some other way. Any help from someone who lives there or been there would be great.

Not long to go now :P

if you are flying in and out of tokyo ( i guess you will as TAS etc is up here) then just fly down to osaka if you want to go down for a few days. leave your big bags at your tokyo hotel, they don't mind holding for a couple of days. plane is faster and cheaper than shinkansen. less fun though. but meh. faster, cheaper!

oh, and yes if your phone is 3g it will work in japan. mine roams between softbank and docomo so I usually get good reception. but it's pretty exxy. a few years back I got a pre-paid japanese phone and I use that too. or you can rent one.
