I know piggy-backs and other ECU topics are always popping up, but I am looking now for the comparison of these 2. After looking around I have fallen on these - I am not upgrading the turbo thus this piggy-back will be running with:

- FMIC + Exhaust

- Fuel pump and FPR

- AFM

- Turbo smart Dual stage boost controller

- Stock turb

- Stock new serviced injectors

After looking around I found the main pros for each are:

SAFC NEO:

16x tuning

.... Whats the deal with it supposedly having features over the VAFC?

SAFC 2:

Knock sensor

Those are the main differences I know of, and help would be appreciated. I also apologise for my ignorance of these piggy-back machines :ninja:

dont bother IMO. Get a PFC.

The NEO is just the new version of the SAFCII. not sure about knock snesors If u get the old SAFC (non blue screen) you get ingition control also....thats why thr old ones a re popular.

Well i have an SAFC II and the knock is great, and it works, if you know how it works.

I have a Central 20 ecu and an SAFC II and got 207 rwKw at 12 psi with supporting mods.

SAFC II also gives ignition timing modification, this occurs because as you take fuel out, you also take out some timming with it. If you get one it is best to get an adjustable fuel regulator. This will help in adjustment, as you can add fuel with the reg, but take some ignition out with the SAFC II.

Well this shatter's my reasoning on getting the SAFC II.... Its says the NEo has a knock-sensor?

http://www.racingworks.com/apexi_afc...controller.htm

Also, I've been talking to a few ppl - what would I do in regards to getting the ECU played with?? Would I get the same performance etc as using a SAFC? For the same price - ie ~$500 total

I can confirm 100% the neo has no knock read out. I reckon if you only have $500 to spen the safc2 is prob your best bet. Remapping ur stock ecu will be more expensive.

I was in the same boat as u 4 months ago and i got a neo and now have a PFC , i think you should just save up and get the big daddy pfc to have it done righ tthe first time.

Yeah problem is with PFC or E-manage I'm easily looking at 1000-1500 buckaroos... specially since R32 PFCs are near impossible to get atm second hand, and I'd need a E-01 or something to go with the E-manage Ultimate.

How much would the re-mapp be?

Central 20 ecu ($200) + SAFC II($350)+tune($200)=207rwks at 12 psi on stock turbo and a bucket load of midrange. The ecu i have will support large turbo and the SAFC II will drive any airflow meater, so i am good for another 40 rwKs or so.

a guy buy the name of mad82 i think? is selling a modified stock ecu for like 200 in the forsale section, u should buy that then get a safc2 or neo to make it just right! his ecu has no rich and retard no speed cut and 500rpm more rev limit, i think also slightly different mapps! Id go for that plus safc if on a budget.

Unfortunately that ECU is R33 not 32 :woot:

Hmm if u have a 32 u can ge tit remapped, i think its still like 600-1000 to do tho.

Id prob get a NEO or safc2, then reevalutae it u thin ku need th eITC or a remap, if u buy a second hand safc2 or neo u can sell it for pretty much paid for it if u dint like it.

the neo has a higher resolution map, but you dont really use it anyway since the SAFC autmoatically interpolates between the points.

Neo looks a bit nicer and is new.. aside from that, many people will tell you it was a step backward from the SAFC2 which had the knock sensor and the ability to have multiple maps as well.

If you can dig up a nice safc2 2nd hand, get it, else the NEO will perform the same task, but ur missing out on some peripheral features.

the interpolation is better when you need less of it. Hence the extra map points are more important than a knock sensor from a tuning perspective. The S-AFC is a fairly blunt tool to begin with without ignition mapping so if you have the choice take more tuning resolution.

I could have got got either but, went the Neo. It's a short term thing anyway.

Ok well I'm making the purchase of a SAFC II. Haven't found any cheaper than $380 unfortunately... but such is life.

Who should I go to on the Gold Coast for tune etc..??

And I've been told I can install it and run the car for a while before the tune and won't cause any damage. Is this correct?? (the SAFC II is currently tuned for a Silvia).

    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all! • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.
    • Hope the cans went down well at least
    • 255 can't go wrong with the price.
    • When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything. It comes with a plug... but you can plug the OEM plug directly into this thing. https://justjap.com/products/deatschwerks-dw300-fuel-pump-nissan-s13-silvia-r32-r33-r34-skyline-c34-stagea?currency=AUD Downside: Won't actually flow that much on boost if you want to push it on E85, but it's comparable to the 040/255 etc. Little more actually.
