Gday i'm just about to change my Gearbox oil... thinking of going with Redline lightweight Shockproof. Just got car imported and dunno if stock oil is in it still, so thought I'd change it anyway. (car has done 75,000km)

Just few questions....

Should i go easy for first 1000km after change?

Most people use this if they have gearbox crunching i have read so is it ok to use it if u dont have gear crunchin etc? Im guessing its ok?

Also is Redline way to go? I dont have noises so maybe something cheaper or i am i best off going all out?

P.S. Did try a search guys... sorry if it has been covered!

Thanks

make sure you use the Super Lightweight Shockproof (its a 75w90)

the lightweight shockproof (75w140) is too heavy and makes it hard to put into gears when warmed up

and i dont believe the oil needs to be run in but it cant hurt behaving for 100-200 K's

EDIT: Redline is a very good way to go top stuff! but me personally would go Royal Purple MaxGear

and yes i would go all out the better the oil... the less wear... the longer and healthier the gearbox lives

yes Royal Purple i would say is a better product than Redline

i have also heard that thing about Redline with newer gearboxs

i would say that Royal Purple is as good as Redline in the smoothness of the gearbox BUT Royal Purple has this thing they called "Synerlec" which claims to Polish the metal as it lubricates and i have a test thing they done with it and it did exactly that didnt wear at all but polished the metal (can post it up if you want)

it also has a friction additive in it called "Synslide"

Sorry for the blatent plug but just stating why its my opinion that Royal Purple is better

Hope it helps

Apparently Redline Lightweight Shockproof isnt designed for synchro gearboxes as it doesnt allow your synchros to mesh properly. Also it supposedly has a short lifespan as it is designed for racing applications. I had it in my gearbox but recently drained it out and put in Redline MT90 (which is designed for synchro 'boxes). The shifting is a bit notchier with the MT90 however. If your not getting any crunching from your gearbox I wouldnt use any of the shockproof oils.
