Is Natural Gas A Good Thing To Be Smelling In The Air?

Recommended Posts

hmmm... we have had a HEAP of issues with our Brand New ducted system here at work... temps never stay right... 17deg one minute 27 the next... the guys been in and out numerous times and after todays visit all we can smell is natural gas.

how harmful could it be breathing it in for a long period of time? its not a large concentration but definately noticable.

It's not harmful in small doses, but it's not a smell you want to be around. Especially if there is a flame around :)

If this guy is not doing his job properly you should report him to the Plumbing Commission

oh man i once found some ppl standing around a natural gas pipe that was leaking outta the groud so i went to have a smell (stupid idea)

that stuff is awful when there is heaps of it. i nearly fell into the hole it was so bad

lol

ok well ive just been told by building management we dont have GAS

so that makes it even weirder :)

i just tried lighting a lighter and we didnt blow up :)

you think they could add a nicer scent to it...

LPG is the worst... only thing i hate about filling my car up... that rotten veggie fart smell when you let go of the handle

yeah LPG is odour less, they add bad smell so you know something isn't good when you smell it :O. Aside from asphyxiation (not getting enough oxygen) it isn't harmful at all unless it goes kaboom. Some factory paints can give off a similar smell so maybe you just have some new furniture etc that smells similar? Incidently the new car smell, is actually bad for you :).

lmao well thats great... everyone loves the new car smell :O

yeah this whole area has been refurbished for us... maybe thats it... altho its two months old now we should have smelt it earlier... maybe someone heated something weird up... we arent far from the kitchen

put the lighter lower down. gas is heavier than air so it will sit on the ground. havent you ever heard of people emptying gas bottles in there back yard, then the pilot light from a water heater ignites it and kaboom you dont have to mow the lawn for 3 weeks. you no longer have a fence... or house either lol

Gas doesn't actually smell, they add the smell so you know that you know its around, or there is a leak. It smells like rotten cabages. Its not harmful, only a lot is.

Exactly! The smell is added to make you feel sick so as you don't unknowingly inhale copius amounts of NG
